Trustee – Legal and Governance

What will you be doing?

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Balance achieves its core purpose. They oversee the governance and administration of the charity, ensure we have a clear strategy, and that our work and goals remain in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Balance to grow and thrive.
Board members have a collective responsibility — trustees always act as a group, and not as individuals.

What are we looking for?

In addition to general duties, this role brings specialist expertise to the Board. We are particularly looking for someone who can:

 • Advise the Board on legal and governance matters, helping trustees understand their duties and liabilities and ensuring the charity acts within the law.

• Support good governance practice, including compliance with charity law, the governing document, and relevant regulation.

• Provide a considered view on legal risks, contracts, safeguarding-related legal questions, employment matters and data protection, flagging when external specialist advice is needed.

• Help ensure policies and procedures are legally sound and kept up to date.
