Role Purpose
This is a senior volunteer leadership role designed to provide strategic and operational resilience across the department.

Role Requirements (Deputy Head)
Given the seniority and responsibility of this volunteer role, the following experience is required:
A PhD is required, along with postdoctoral research experience, or significant academic or practical research experience at an equivalent level, demonstrating advanced expertise in research design, ethics, governance or reporting.
Substantial experience in research ethics, research governance or research leadership, ideally across multiple projects or teams.
Experience in strategic planning, departmental oversight or senior‑level decision‑making, whether in a volunteer, academic or professional context.
A strong track record of ethical decision‑making, particularly in roles where judgement, integrity and risk assessment were central.
Experience with research reporting, research communication or academic publication processes is highly beneficial.
A strong interest in ethical governance, research integrity and maintaining high standards across research projects.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.
Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route.
The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities.
Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role.

Settle Stories is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation based in the Yorkshire Dales. Since 2010, we have used the power of story to educate, to empower, and to endure. We have reached over 200,000 people across 44 countries and 6 continents. We pioneered hybrid live-streaming for storytelling events in 2019, a year before the pandemic made it necessary. In 2025, funded by the British Council, we collaborated with Msitu Wa Ndoto to broadcast live performances from Africa's oldest burial site, a 76,000-year-old cave in Kenya, connecting artists from the UK and Kenya to audiences worldwide. We are now looking to expand this work, broadcasting from unusual and culturally significant places across the globe.
In schools, our Stories for Schools platform brings the nation's finest storytellers into classrooms through filmed content aligned to the national curriculum. The Storyful Way, our mindfulness-integrated storytelling methodology, is validated by Sheffield Hallam University for its outcomes in emotional well-being and resilience. Judges for our annual Children's Story Competition have included Sir Michael Morpurgo, Joanne Harris MBE, and Anne Fine. Closer to home, Settle itself sits at the heart of everything we do: for 15 years we have preserved the stories of the Yorkshire Dales through oral history projects, heritage archives, and the world's first Listening Gallery, housed in a phone box, keeping local voices alive for future generations.

STAMMA is the leading charity for people who stammer in the UK. We’re a small, award-winning organisation with big ambitions and a brilliant community, keen to create space and respect for people who stammer.
Stammering has historically been the target for humour and used to suggest inadequacy, leaving many who stammer facing daily ignorance, discrimination and disrespect. This can affect job prospects and mental health, and cause depression and social isolation. It can make booking a GP appointment a nightmare, and prevent people from accessing a service altogether, leaving them feeling humiliated, degraded or disbelieved. We’re here to change that.
We’ve a clear strategy for the next five years to achieve real and practical change for people who stammer by highlighting the inadvertent barriers they face within the workplace and as service users. We want to reach more people who stammer and grow our supporter base, but to do that we need to expand our training and advocacy services, whilst underpinning our helpline and family support.
We want to appoint a new Trustee with significant skills and experience within the charity sector to the Board. You’ll need to share our excitement and ambition for change. It isn’t essential that you stammer. This is an unpaid position, but travel expenses can be covered. Trustee terms are for four years, and you will be expected to attend all Board meetings, up to five times a year, usually on a Saturday, either in-person at different locations across England, or online. The National Institute for African Studies (NIAS) is a London-based think tank that provides objective information on African affairs, looking to appoint a Research & Publishing Intern within its office in South West, London. Our main publication, The Saharan is an interdisciplinary journal published by NIAS aimed at exploring the dynamic relationship between culture and development in Africa/UK.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Support the editors in the sourcing & production of blog and journal publications
- Checking material for completeness, copy-edit and check appropriate non-technical material such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter updates
- Generate, check and correct files with names, contact information, number of articles, review assessments, and consent forms.
- Serve as a custodian of approved originals of all documentation produced for The Saharan journal

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil CIC is a grassroots movement committed to confronting and eradicating Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) across the UK.
We give survivors, families, and allies the power to speak out, heal, and educate communities through storytelling, outreach, and collective action. We work across all communities Black, white, Asian, Caribbean, and African ensuring no survivor feels alone or silenced.

The Role - Volunteer Content and Donor Communication Specialists
JOB PURPOSE
This role exists to:
• Craft and manage communications for donors, stakeholders, and the wider community
• Translate survivor-led stories and CIC activities into impactful messaging
• Develop content for emails, newsletters, social media, and fundraising campaigns
• Support the Fundraising Director in building donor relationships through clear, engaging, and ethical communication
• Ensure all content aligns with CIC values, trauma-informed practice, and safeguarding policies

Responsibilities:
Develop clear, engaging, and accurate copy for all donor and community communications, including: Emails and newsletters, Fundraising campaign materials, Donor updates and acknowledgements andEvent promotions and volunteer communications.
Maintain a consistent organisational voice and messaging across all communication channels.
Collaborate with the Fundraising Director to ensure content aligns with campaign goals, donor engagement strategies, and organisational priorities.
Work with the Social Media Team to ensure content supports multi-channel campaigns and wider communications objectives.
Track donor engagement, feedback, and responses to communications to identify patterns and refine messaging for maximum impact.
Support segmentation, personalisation, and targeting of communications to ensure relevance and donor retention.
Ensure compliance with data protection (GDPR), safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all communications.
Collaborate with volunteers and other teams to adapt content for different audiences, ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity.
Proofread, edit, and quality-check all content before publication to ensure accuracy and professional presentation.
Contribute to content planning, calendars, and scheduling to maintain regular, timely, and coordinated communications.
Assist in developing templates, guides, or SOPs for donor and community communications.
Provide guidance and mentoring to other volunteers involved in content creation or communications.
Monitor performance metrics for communications and produce reports to inform strategy and campaign planning.
Ensure all communications reflect and uphold the C.I.C’s values, culture, and brand identity
What We’re Looking For:
Essential / Highly Valued Experience
Professional or voluntary experience in copywriting, communications, or journalism.
Experience creating email newsletters, donor updates, or fundraising communications.
Strong understanding of donor engagement strategies and how content impacts retention.
Experience creating content for social media with organisational or campaign objectives in mind.
Editing, proofreading, and content planning skills.
Ability to maintain a consistent organisational voice across platforms.
Familiarity with GDPR, data protection, and safeguarding requirements for communications.
Skills in tracking and interpreting engagement metrics and refining communications accordingly.
Collaborative skills to work effectively with multiple teams, volunteers, and directors.
Ability to adapt content for different audiences and ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
Strong organisational and project management skills for content planning and scheduling.
Experience in creating templates, guides, or standardised communication processes.
Desirable / Can Be Developed
Experience using email marketing or newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, CiviCRM).
Knowledge of digital content analytics tools to monitor performance.
Experience mentoring or supporting volunteers in communications roles.
Ability to integrate donor communications with wider fundraising campaigns and events.
Familiarity with multi-channel campaign planning and content strategy.
Skills in visual content creation or basic design for communication purposes.
