This friendship group was started to provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to make friends, go on monthly trips and overall have a lot of fun. You can help us make that happen!
An opportunity is available to volunteer at a friendship group for adults with learning disabilities No prior experience is required. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and a supportive attitude are what matter most.
Projects You May Support
Volunteers can choose to help with one or both projects:
1. Friendship Group
- When: Every Tuesday during term time, 1:30pm–4:30pm
- Where: Canning Town Library
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting participants during various activities (e.g., reading tasks).
- Encouraging communication and helping build friendships.
- Boosting confidence through positive interaction.
- Assisting with setting up and packing away activities.
- Helping individuals get refreshments.
- Building trust through calm, kind engagement.
- Reporting any concerns, incidents, or disclosures to staff.
2. Joy Hub
- When: Usually the last Tuesday of each month during term time (timings may vary; activities announced up to 4 months in advance).
- Purpose: Monthly free outings planned by the Friendship Group—examples include bowling, cinema, theatre, and museum visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring everyone feels included.
- Encouraging individuals to participate and build confidence.
- Helping with practical tasks such as navigating meeting points, refreshments, and transitions between activities.
- Building rapport through supportive, calm interactions.
- Reporting any concerns or incidents to staff.
Skills You’ll Develop
- Communication: Adapting language, using non-verbal cues, and practising active listening.
- Empathy & Patience: Understanding diverse needs and responding calmly.
- Teamwork: Working collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Leadership: Taking initiative while supporting individuals with varying needs.

Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure is a small, friendly charity based in Southwark, providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Gardening Club Volunteer to support our bi weekly Monday sessions (11am-1pm), held at our allotment site in Peckham, throughout the spring and summer months.
About The Role
This role is ideal for someone who loves to get stuck in. You’ll support our gardening tutor in delivering accessible and fun gardening sessions for a small group of adults with learning disabilities. Every class will be an opportunity to learn new gardening skills, from pulling weeds to sowing seeds. With your help, we aim to provide our learners with a sense of pride and satisfaction at having nurtured a growthful space with others, whilst learning invaluable skills along the way.
As a Gardening Club Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will:
- Encourage and support learners
- Assist the tutor in setting up and putting away gardening tools
- Demonstrate tasks and participate alongside learners
- Undertake light manual tasks where necessary and follow health and safety guidelines
- Offer 1:1 or group support where needed to help participants engage
- Help cultivate a warm, inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels safe to express themselves

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.
We are looking for a patient and caring volunteer to visit a man in his early 60s who lives in a supported living home in central Coventry. He enjoys going to watch the football, woodwork and crafts, gentle walks, and watching sports and films.
Out and About Role
This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.
In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:
- Sitting and having a chat
- Checking in on their well- being
- Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink
- Take part on community activities like visiting a place of interest, go shopping etc.
- Enjoying a walk
- A craft activity at home

Share’s trustee team has responsibility for overseeing strategy and performance. Share currently has eight trustees, and is looking to recruit up to three more with the enthusiasm, skills and commitment we need to help guide Share through the next phase of its development. HS4L supports adults with learning disabilities and autism through a mix of learning programmes, a community café, a chocolate‑making social enterprise, a Day Service ,two residential care homes, and supported living flats. It’s a vibrant, hands‑on organisation with a big heart and a growing footprint.
As we plan for long‑term financial sustainability, we’re keen to bring in trustees with experience in areas like finance, HR, safeguarding, social care, digital, or social enterprise. Most of all, we’re looking for people who believe in safe, high‑quality support and want to help shape our future.

We are looking for a volunteer dog walking buddy in Bournemouth who would like to share their time (and dog!) with a pet loving gentleman we support.

Open Country is a Charity that helps people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside. We are always looking for volunteers to support our conservation and gardening groups, walking group and our weekend outings.
- Conservation group meet on a Tuesday and is made up of adults with learning disabilities who carry out practical conservation tasks each week at various locations. We work with organisations like Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and RSPB. Tasks can include meadow creation, tree planting, pond maintenance and invasive species removal to name but a few.
- Walking group meet on a Thursday and is made up of adults with learning disabilities or sensory impairments. We walk between 5-7miles each week at different locations around Yorkshire and normally finish the walk with a pub or cafe stop.
- Gardening and arts group meet on a Friday, and is made up of adults with learning disabilities, where we learn about gardening and various natural craft like willow weaving. We also regulary work with organisations like the National Trust and the National Coal Mining Museum.
We also run weekend outings for people with all kinds of disabilities providing experiences and a chance to socialise and explore new places. Our activities range from a gentle amble round a country house and gardens, wildlife watching at a nature reserve to axe throwing and abseiling.
As a volunteer you would be helping our members stick together as a group, or carry out the conservation tasks, making sure they are happy and safe.
No experience is required, just a willingness to get stuck in! We will provide all relevant training for the role.
We meet at Thornes Park Nursery, Wakefield at 10am and head out in our accessible minibus to site.
