What the role involves

The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) started life back in March 1879, when a group of bank workers came together to establish leadership and professional practice principles for the industry. Over the years, the organisation developed its own industry leading qualifications to create a gold standard of banking and financial education. Today, we exist to support the advancement of knowledge and education in financial services. Previously, we were called The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF), and we were renamed following the sale of our education and training activities in March 2023.

About the role
Our trustees play a vital role ensuring that The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) achieves its charitable purpose. They oversee the overall strategic management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that LFBF has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable LFBF to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.
Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.
Role responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the trustee are as follows:
- Support and provide advice on LFBF’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve strategic objectives and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee LFBF’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Review and approve LFBF’s financial statements.
- Provide support and challenge to LFBF’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Keep abreast of changes in LFBF’s operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of LFBF’s own governance.
- Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
- Attend LFBF events as appropriate.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect LFBF’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
- Contribute to the broader promotion of LFBFs objects, aims and reputation by applying their skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Due to a number of our current trustees reaching their term in the coming months, we are looking to recruit up to 4 new trustees. In the main we are looking for experienced trustees however one trustee role will be available for those with little or no previous governance experience as we will provide a full induction and training.

We are looking for a new independent trustee who can bring fresh perspectives and objective judgment from outside our immediate membership to join our very committed board. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of charity law and regulation.

About Schoolreaders
One in four children in England leave primary school unable to read at the expected level — a barrier that shadows their education, confidence, and life chances. Schoolreaders was founded in 2013 to change this.
The Charity delivers weekly one-to-one reading support to primary school children who need it most, powered by a nationwide network of trained volunteers. This community-driven model delivers exceptional impact at minimal cost. Person specification
Schoolreaders is seeking to strengthen its Board with new Trustees who bring expertise across two priority areas: Education and Communications / PR. While prior governance experience is welcome, the organisation is equally open to applications from those seeking their first non-executive appointment.
Education
The Board welcomes applications from those with current experience as a primary school practitioner, ideally within the state sector. The capacity to deliver strategic direction is essential. Insight into challenges linked to deprivation and the use of educational technology would be particularly valuable in shaping policy, practice and partnership development. A background in safeguarding would also be highly valued. Candidates may have held leadership roles such as Head of Department, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher, Chief Executive, or Director of Education. Appointees will also join the Education Safeguarding Consultation Group (meets online three times per year).
Communications / PR
The Board is seeking a Trustee with significant experience in communications, brand development, and / or marketing, and a strong understanding of digital and social media strategy. Candidates may come from any sector, provided they bring sound judgement, strong strategic thinking, and the ability to operate credibly across these areas. Experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing at a senior level will be valuable.
This Trustee will bring valuable insight as Schoolreaders strengthens its in-house communications and marketing capability and will help to shape the development of a longer-term strategy to raise the organisation’s profile and extend its reach. They will also support the development of a more integrated and cohesive approach, contributing to thinking on brand strategy, marketing and communications priorities, audience engagement, and external profile, as well as offering insight across digital, social, and traditional channels.

Location
Board meetings are primarily held virtually, with one in-person board meeting and one strategy day held annually (typically in Bedford). Trustees from all regions of the UK are encouraged to apply.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.
Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route.
The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities.
Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role.
We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, under represented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men.

The Volunteer Social & Digital Media Education Lead is responsible for designing, developing and delivering educational programmes focused on social and digital media skills. Role Description
As a Project Coordinator (PC), you will be a key part of the Summer Team, supporting the smooth operation of EPAfrica’s in-country summer programme. You’ll work alongside the Project Manager and other Project Coordinators to provide on-the-ground coordination, logistical support, and pastoral care for our Project Associates. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that gives you insight into international development, team leadership, and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
• With guidance from the Project Manager (PM), support our team of Project Associates in their school placements, including:
* Monitor project progress and guide Project Associates to address any issues as they arise
* Offering pastoral support and help maintain the wellbeing of Project Workers
• Co-deliver trainings on topics such as project management, effective international development practices, safety and wellbeing, and cross-cultural communication
• Coordinating key operational logistics relating to summer programme delivery.
• Facilitate communication between Project Associates, our in-country Summer Team, and the UK-based central charity team.
• Help deliver our in-country monitoring and evaluation programme, enabling us to effectively plan for and deliver future investments. This includes:
* Monitoring visits to current & recent investment schools to gauge impact of EPAfrica’s work
* Assessment visits to potential future EPAfrica participant schools
• Staying up-to-date in research into developments in the Ugandan education system and potential impacts on our work
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with our network of local partners.
• Contribute to Summer Team planning, reflection sessions, and process documentation
• Help to maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of the Uganda-based team, working within the charity’s risk guidelines.
What we are looking for
• Strong familiarity with, and demonstrated interest in, EPAfrica’s values and operating model.
• A demonstrated interest in grassroots international development is required; previous experience in this setting (volunteering, fieldwork, or prior work experience) preferred.
