No one should have to sleep rough on London’s streets and everyone should get the support they need to find a place to call home. 

This is an exciting time for The Connection.  Although rough sleeping is increasing on our streets, we believe we have the solutions.  To meet the growing need for our help, we need to secure more resources.  We are planning a new fundraising strategy so that we can save lives, work more closely with health services and get more people into long term accommodation.

About the Role

To achieve this, we are looking for more fundraising expertise at Board level.  We are looking for a senior fundraising professional to join our active and skilled board.  Ideally you are a Fundraising Director working in a successful medium to large charity, with strong knowledge of highly effective, innovative fundraising teams.  You will guide us to get the best from the resources we put in and steer further investment to support ambitious growth.

We have a particular interest in major donor and corporate fundraising as these are areas where we have the opportunities for growth.  We are also keen to build relationships with senior leaders at funder organisations and encourage them to act as ambassadors to promote our cause.

The Connection has very strong brand recognition for our size due to our location in the centre of London and our long standing relationship with the BBC through the Radio 4 Christmas Appeal.  Help us with our step change in fundraising so that we can make a huge difference to people sleeping rough on our streets.

The NIAS Creative Campus Events & Digital Administrative Assistant will support the smooth operation, promotion, and growth of the Creative Campus venue.

The role exists to assist with the administration, marketing, and delivery of events and programmes hosted at the venue. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in venue operations, digital promotion, social media marketing, event coordination, and community engagement.

This role is ideal for an energetic and organised individual who enjoys working in a creative environment and is interested in gaining practical experience in events management, digital communications, and creative venue operations management.

The position will work closely with the Venue Coordinator, supporting day-to-day venue administration, event preparation, online promotion, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities (You will gain practical experience in two or more of the listed areas)

1. Venue Administration Support

Support the venue coordinator with the day-to-day administration of the Creative Campus venue.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing incoming enquiries and bookings
• Maintaining venue booking calendars
• Assisting with venue hire documentation
• Providing reception and guest welcome support
• Assisting with record keeping and administrative tasks

2. Event Operations Support

Assist in the preparation and delivery of events hosted at the venue.

• Assisting with event setup and breakdown
• Welcoming event organisers and guests
• Supporting performers, speakers and facilitators
• Assisting with ticketing and guest registration
• Helping coordinate volunteers and temporary event staff

3. Social Media & Digital Promotion

Support the promotion of Creative Campus activities across digital platforms.

• Updating Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms
• Creating posts promoting upcoming events
• Capturing photos and short videos during events
• Supporting WhatsApp marketing to regular guests
• Assisting with Eventbrite and event listing updates

4. Website & Digital Content Management

Assist in maintaining the Creative Campus online presence.

• Updating website content using WordPress
• Uploading events to the website calendar
• Supporting digital newsletters and announcements
• Assisting with online promotional campaigns

5. Community Engagement & Partnerships

Support outreach activities to increase venue use and community participation.

• Communicating with artists, performers and community groups
• Supporting outreach to schools, creative organisations and local groups
• Assisting with coordination of creative workshops and programmes

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) Support Volunteer 

People in care homes should have a voice to communicate their needs wishes and wants. Some people need support with this, but don’t have friends and family available to assist them.  This means they’re entitled to have support from an RPR and volunteer, who are there to make sure they get the care they deserve.  Your role as an RPR Support Volunteer is to collaborate with the VoiceAbility RPR to make sure a person’s views are listened to when decisions are made about their care.

As an RPR Support Volunteer you might:

• Visit people in their care home, to make sure they’re getting the right care and support
• Talk with them about their feelings, thoughts and wishes
• Raise concerns
• Keep detailed notes and records
• Make a real difference to someone’s life

Hospital Visitor Volunteer – Mondays and Wednesdays 9 am- 4 pm  

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

• hold drop-in sessions
• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
• share information
• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

Support Session Volunteer 

You’ll be supporting people over the age of 18 with disabilities, this may include those with poor mental health, learning difficulties, autism and other disabilities.  Your role will include supporting clients to understand and undertake a task on a one-to-one basis.  The task will vary from client to client as will the needs of the individual.

As a support session volunteer, you might:

• help people have their say when it matters most
• Helping individuals navigate challenges and ensuring their needs are met
• help people to make complaints and use local services

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

You can expect us to

• make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· help set up and/or man stalls at events

· help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

· help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances

· promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

About our Trustee Team

Our Trustees are a team of volunteers who use their diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives to set the strategic direction of the charity and make sure it’s doing what it was set up to do in the best possible way.

Family Holiday Charity has an ambitious strategy over the next few years, which will see us expand our services to families, develop our influencing work within the travel and leisure industry and government, and evolve our ways of working so that we can accept and use gifted breaks, travel and other services at scale, to give families who really need it a holiday.

To help us do all that we’ll need the guidance, challenge, connections, and support of all our Trustees.
Given our goals, we’re particularly looking to add the following professional skills and experiences to our team.

• HR-Focused- a Trustee who will serve as Chair of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, providing strategic oversight of people, culture and organisational development whilst acting as the Board’s Safeguarding lead and supporting the Charity’s safeguarding assurance framework. Prior safeguarding experience is desirable but not essential.

The Commitment 

We’ll ask you to participate in four two-hour Board Meetings per year, typically in person at our office in London or remotely.We also get together for a Strategy Day in September/October, which is held on a weekday in London, and you’d need to attend that in person.

We can support with any access needs for in-person meetings.,

There are two Board sub-committees- one which focuses on our Finances and Risk, and one which considers our people (Trustees and Staff). Once you’ve settled into the role, most Trustees join one of them. They meet remotely around four  times a year.

Outside of formal meetings, you’ll be warmly encouraged to get to know the staff team, and attend fundraising events 
or other events to meet referrers, families, and supporters wherever possible.

Overall, you’ll need to be able to commit around 6 hours each month for a mix of meetings and events, contributing
your skills and perspective to projects, building your knowledge of the charity and developing as a Trustee.

British Exploring Society is looking for two additional Trustees to join our Council (Board).

Trustee: Operations and Expeditions – A trustee with previous experience of leading British Exploring Society expeditions. Experience of taking young people on multiple remote and challenging expeditions. Previous Trustee experience of an outdoor and/or youth development charity is essential.

Trustee: Legal – A trustee who is a qualified lawyer ideally operating at a Partner level or senior executive level with a corporate environment with a passion for the outdoors and youth work. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential.

We prepare young people for adventures and expeditions virtually, and in remote locations in the UK and overseas where they face challenges, acquire outdoor skills and learn about themselves - as well as undertaking projects with content relevant to their lives and to the fragile environments that they explore.

Our trustees

Our trustees play a vital role at British Exploring Society. They have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, our management and administration. Since 1932 we have always relied on the time individuals donate to us, and our trustees are a cornerstone of that culture of professional volunteering. We want our trustees to enjoy the time they give to us, and to feel motivated and uplifted by the work we do. We do everything we can to involve our trustees in the life of the organisation, to visit and get involved in our activities and to feel the positive impact of their contributions.

Our trustees ensure that we comply with the law, with our Articles, and that we continuously strive to fulfil our charitable purpose. This includes a proactive duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of our beneficiaries and a duty of care to ensure beneficiaries and others the charity comes into contact with do not come to harm.

Key responsibilities

Planning

• Approve our mission statement and review the team’s performance in achieving it
• Annually assess the changing environment and approve the charity’s plans
• Annually review and approve the organisation’s strategy
• Review and approve our financial goals
• Annually review and approve our budget
• Approve and review major policies, including all those relating to financial procedures, health and safety, risk, data protection and safeguarding.

Organisation

• Recruit, appraise, advise, support and if necessary change the CEO of the charity
• Be assured of management succession
• Approve appropriate salaries, terms and conditions of service for staff
• Support sub-committees and fill vacancies as needed
• Regularly audit the performance of Council and approve plans to improve its performance.

Operations

• Review results achieved by our team in relation to aims and objectives, annual and long range goals
• Be certain that the financial structure of the charity is adequate for its current needs and strategy
• Provide open and constructive criticism, advice, comments and support
• Approve major actions of the charity, such as expenditure on items over authorised limits and major shift in activity.

Audit

• Ensure accountability within the charity, particularly where trustees delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers
• Be assured that Council is adequately and currently informed of the condition of the charity and its operations
• Be assured that published reports adequately reflect the nature of services and the financial condition of the charity
• Ascertain that the CEO has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and is administering and enforcing those policies
• Appoint independent auditors
• Review and assure compliance with statutory accounting, reporting requirements, relevant laws and standards affecting the charity
