Event volunteer roles

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference. Through volunteering as an Emergency Responder, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering essential first aid and lifesaving clinical care at community and major events in your areas, including at sporting events, concerts, community festivals.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. What you can expect from SJA, and what we expect from those who volunteer with us, is included in the volunteer charter.

We will be running a number of information events locally. The date and location within Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire will be shared soon. If you require this information, please contact the hiring manager listed at the bottom of this advert.

Bedfordshire is made of of 2 Networks, one based in Bedford who meet on a Monday evening and one based in Dunstable who meet on a Wednesday evening, both at 8pm.Events Bedfordshire has historically covered are Bedford River Festival, Dunstable music events, Luton Town FC, Bedford Athletic club and Bedford blues rugby.

Whilst many of the events we cover are at the weekends we do also cover mid-week events.

We are looking to run a volunteering selection and interview session in June, date and venue TBC.

If you are successful you will need to undertake induction & training for role at these dates:

• Welcome Event (Induction) - TBC
• Training for role - This role is subject to a 6 day training course which will be spread across 3 weekends. Locations and dates will be confirmed with 3 courses booked across the East Region, please note travel may be required. The earliest course will be in Norwich in July and August with further courses being planned for September/ October and October/ November.

About the Role

Headway East London is looking for 3 Casework volunteers. As a volunteer with the Casework Service team, you will play a key role in helping our support groups run smoothly. You will support the team with the administration and behind-the-scenes tasks that make our sessions welcoming, organised, and impactful.

What you will do:

1. Comply with confidentiality and other group agreements.
2. Send out reminders to group members.
3. Capture topical notes during the support group.
4. Send out summary information to members.
5. Upload register attendance.
6. Assist with keeping the centre safe, clean and tidy all times i.e. collecting
   and washing cups, setting up the space and putting it back after.
7. Assist members needing to use a wheelchair in and around the centre.
8. Undergo GDPR or any other training as required.
9. Be part of volunteer debriefs and social events: Volunteer Celebration
   Week & Volunteer Christmas Party.
10. Receive volunteer supervision support as and when needed.

Our membership offers young people and survivors a path to heal, learn digital skills and interactively participate in our Alchemic 369 Book Club, where members engage in weekly interactive discussions, debates and critical analysis of African, Caribbean and world history, Ifa, classics and political thought. Members will sharpen their reading, reasoning and imagination skills, with opportunities to discuss works directly with authors and scholars such as Dr. Joy James, Dr. Umar Johnson, Dr. Phil Valentine, Muta Baruka and professor Jinag+, highly subsidised plant-based transformative retreats and join a community designed to empower and educate.

We are currently building a founding team to develop a media system that not only tells stories—but transforms lives,creates community, jobs and educational opportunities for young people globally.

About the role:

You will act as the architect of our podcast production ecosystem, responsible for building systems that allow the podcast to run consistently, professionally, and independently of micromanagement.

You will oversee:

• Video production

• Audio editing

• Article creation (monthly)

• Research and storytelling structure

• Guest coordination and booking systems

• Team management and output tracking

  Build a production machine that runs weekly without constant oversight.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

1. Production Leadership

• Oversee the full podcast pipeline: planning → recording → editing → publishing

• Ensure 1 high-quality edited video per week

• Oversee 1 well-written article per month aligned with podcast themes

2. Team Oversight

• Lead and manage a team of volunteer:

  • Editors

  • Investigative journalist

  • Creative Writers

  • Guest researchers

  • Production assistants

• Delegate effectively without bottlenecking the process

3. Systems & SOP Development

• Build clear workflows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Create a system where:

  • Tasks are repeatable

  • Roles are clear

  • New team members can onboard (with ease)

4. Research & Guest Coordination

• Oversee research pipelines for topics and guests

• Implement systems for:

  • Guest outreach

  • Booking

  • Pre-interview preparation

5. Performance Tracking (KPIs)

• Maintain visibility across the team using trackers

• Monitor:

  • Output consistency

  • Deadlines

  • Content quality

• Report progress and gaps clearly to leadership

6. Operational Independence

• Reduce reliance on the founder for day-to-day decisions

• Build a structure where the production team can run smoothly without constant intervention

Time Commitment

• Expected contribution: approximately 30hrs hours per week (flexible) Commitment to deliver agreed outcomes/projects

• Fully remote (with occasional in-person opportunities as we grow)

Important to be clear:

• This is a volunteer role during the CIC’s build phase

• It carries real responsibility for data integrity and donor relations

Formal qualifications are not required, but desirable.
Essential equivalent experience mandatory.

Why we want you

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
