Second Life

We partner with communities to collect, trace, and recycle plastic, creating jobs and preventing pollution.​

Our growth so far has been powered by corporate partnerships. But there's significant catalytic and concessional funding available for organizations doing exactly what we do, and right now we're not capturing it. We need the help of a Grant Lead to change that. 

This is a high-leverage role for an experienced development professional who knows the climate, ocean, and circular economy funding landscape, and who can turn that knowledge into successful proposals. You'll pilot the full grant lifecycle from prospecting to reporting, working directly with the CEO and Program Director.

What you'll do:

- Map the global funding landscape relevant to Second Life: bilateral aid agencies, multilateral institutions, climate funds, major foundations, corporate foundations, impact investors offering grant capital, and prize-based funders.
- Build and maintain a prioritized funder pipeline with clear fit assessment, ticket sizes, timelines, and decision-maker contacts.
- Recommend which opportunities to pursue and which to pass on.
- Read and critically review our in-progress and recently submitted grant applications; provide structured written feedback and proposed edits.
- Lead the writing of concept notes, and full proposals.
- Translate field reality (collection sites, collector incomes, recycling pathways) into the language funders use (outputs, outcomes, impact, theory of change, MEL frameworks).
- Own grant reporting timelines and deliverables across all active grants - Partner with marketing on funder-facing communications, impact stories, and thought leadership that strengthens grant competitiveness - Build internal systems: proposal templates, internal library of strong language, proof points and reusable section, AI usage etc. so this function can scale.

By providing an excellent visitor experience as a member of the visitor services team, you will be encouraging our visitors to make the most of their visit to Washington Wetland Centre, and to understand and support our work to save wetlands for wildlife and people.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with the necessary equipment, uniform, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least 1 day per week (to be agreed) 10am until 4pm. To ensure a positive volunteering experience for you and to provide a helpful contribution to the organisation, we hope you will be able to volunteer with for us for at least six months. Ideally you'll enjoy fashion, and the fun of a charity shop - you'll help shoppers find hidden gems. We partner with retailers to recycle lingerie, reduce textile waste, and donate underwear to communities.​

The Undie Chest is looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented volunteer to help us research grant opportunities and support the early stages of grant writing for our growing nonprofit.

The Undie Chest provides new underwear to individuals and families experiencing poverty, homelessness, crisis, or economic hardship. Through programs like Everyone Deserves Underwear, which supports students and schools, and Undie Power, which supports adults and community partners, we help make sure people have access to one of the most basic essentials: clean, new underwear.

Our work also supports a more sustainable and responsible retail ecosystem. We partner with retailers, brands, and community donors to redirect new overstock, returns, samples, and excess inventory away from waste and into the hands of people who need them. Instead of discarding essential items, we help turn them into dignity, comfort, and care for schools, shelters, nonprofits, and community organizations.

This volunteer role is perfect for someone who enjoys research, writing, storytelling, sustainability, and community impact. You’ll help us identify grant opportunities that align with our mission, gather information about funders, organize deadlines and requirements, and potentially assist with drafting or editing grant content.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, organized, and comfortable working independently. Grant-writing experience is helpful but not required. What matters most is that you care about dignity, equity, sustainability, and helping communities access essentials that are too often overlooked. Your support will help The Undie Chest expand our capacity to serve schools, shelters, nonprofits, and community organizations, while also encouraging retailers and brands to make more responsible decisions about excess inventory. • Confident in editing video in CapCut or similar, and designing graphics in Canva to a publishable standard 

• Comfortable capturing content live and events and turning it around quickly 

• Good written and verbal communication skills 

• Familiar with scheduling tools such as Buffer

130 Primrose is a charity restaurant in Primrose Hill using hospitality as a vehicle for change- recruiting, training and employing people with lived experience of homelessness.

In just 12 months, we’ve already supported individuals into paid work, qualifications, and long-term employment pathways. Now, we’re entering an exciting growth phase, with ambitions to scale our model to new sites and reach significantly more people. 

We’re seeking a Strategic Finance Trustee to join our board and help guide this next stage- bringing commercial insight, financial clarity, and strategic challenge as we grow.

About the Role

This is a strategic, non-operational trustee position for a senior finance leader who can translate financial insight into clear, practical decision-making.

You’ll work closely with the Chair, CEO, and Board to ensure our model is financially sustainable, scalable, and impactful- supporting both our social mission and our trading activity.

Our model combines earned income (restaurant operations) with social impact, making financial leadership a critical lever for success.

What You’ll Do

• Support the Board on financial strategy, planning, and risk oversight
• Challenge and refine forecasting and cashflow planning (12–36 months)
• Strengthen financial visibility (P&L, balance sheet, cash) for operational teams
• Advise on unit economics, including menu margins, labour model, and cost control
• Improve budgeting, KPIs, and scenario modelling to support growth (e.g. new sites)
• Contribute to funding strategy, including grants, partnerships, and social investment
• Help establish and potentially chair a Finance & Risk Committee
• Ensure strong governance, compliance, and financial controls
• Act as a critical friend- supporting and constructively challenging leadership

About You

We’re looking for a senior finance leader (e.g. CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent) who brings:

• Significant experience leading financial strategy within complex organisations
• Strong understanding of forecasting, cashflow, and scenario planning
• Ability to translate financial complexity into clear, actionable insight
• A commercial mindset with empathy for social impact
• Experience of governance and working at board or executive level

Desirable:

• Experience in hospitality, multi-site operations, or customer-led businesses
• Exposure to social enterprise, scaling organisations, or blended income models

Time Commitment

• Approx. 1–2 days per month
• Monthly board meetings (hybrid, typically evenings)

We are a UK registered youth development charity that uses teaching and learning to skateboard in a structured and supportive environment as a platform to develop the skills and abilities of children and young people.

The Role: Chapter Leader

As a Chapter Leader with the Skateboarding Foundation (SF), your role is to set up and run a Local Chapter that gives young people access to skateboarding and life skills through the SF ‘Eduskate’ programme.

Training, materials, resources, equipment and ongoing support, advice and guidance will be provided.

Key responsibilities

Your key responsibilities include:

• Setting up and running the chapter
• Recruiting coaches
• Recruiting learners
• Coordinating the delivery of the coaching programme
• Raising funds and spreading the word
• Helping us monitor and evaluate the programme
• Giving three/four hours a month of your time

You’ll have overall responsibility for the chapter’s activities, compliance, and smooth running. You’ll provide direction and support to your chapter committee, chair meetings, and ensure volunteers, coaching programmes, and fundraising are well managed.

The role involves motivating the team, planning chapter development, and stepping in where needed to keep things on track. You’ll also liaise with the national Board of Trustees, keeping them informed of key decisions and changes.

• HR, organisational development, or people leadership
• Social enterprise, entrepreneurship, or youth development
• Impact measurement, research, or data
• Lived experience aligned to the communities we support

Previous trustee experience is not essential. We welcome applications from both experienced trustees and individuals considering their first Board role, and we will provide a supportive induction process.

What to Expect

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring the organisation remains mission-led, financially sustainable, and strategically ambitious. Trustees provide governance, oversight, and support to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, while also acting as ambassadors for the organisation.

The Board typically meets quarterly in South London, with some additional committee meetings and occasional strategy sessions or events throughout the year. Hybrid attendance options are available.

These voluntary roles are unremunerated; however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Eligibility:

You cannot be a trustee if…

•  You are under 18 years of age.
• Have been convicted at any time of any offence involving deception or dishonesty, unless this conviction is legally regarded as spent.
• Are an un-discharged bankrupt.
• Have made compositions with your creditors and have not been discharged.
• Have at any time been removed by the Commissioners or by the course in England, Wales, or Scotland from being a trustee because of misconduct.
• Are disqualified from being a company director.
• Have failed to make payments under the county court administrator’s orders.
