At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. Role Purpose:

To assist our charity shop team(s) in raising the essential funds which allow us to continue supporting local children and their families. 

Tasks & activities

Supporting with the day-to-day running of our charity shop, in which some of the activities may include:

• Handling, processing and attractively displaying donations,

• Providing excellent customer service and serving members of the public on the till,

• Being an advocate for Forget Met Not by promoting the work we do and the importance of raising funds.

Personal qualities & experience

You will need to have an interest in retail and customer service. Previous experience of working in retail is useful, but not essential as full training will be provided.

For this role you will need to be:

• Friendly and enthusiastic

• Honest, reliable and have a willingness to learn

• Self-aware as well as able to reflect on your own experiences and feelings

We are looking for new volunteers who live in Hounslow, Richmond or Ealing boroughs who can take on a postcode area and deliver and collect our collection cans, and reseach and identify potential new can placement venues. Enthusiasm, local knowledge and good communication skills required.

Secretary of Trustees

Location: Remote (UK/Ireland-based)

Time Commitment: Approx. 1–2 days per month

Term: 3 years (renewable)

The Role

We are seeking a new Secretary of Trustees to support the governance and administration of the charity. This is a vital role that ensures the smooth running of trustee meetings and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

The Secretary will work closely with the Chair, Treasurer, and other trustees to maintain accurate records and facilitate effective communication.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure the charity complies with statutory and regulatory requirements, including filing with the Charity Commission.
• Maintain up-to-date records of trustee appointments and declarations of interest.

Meeting Administration

• Organise and schedule trustee meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Prepare and circulate agendas, minutes, and supporting documents.
• Record accurate minutes and actions from meetings.

Communication & Coordination

• Act as the main point of contact for trustee communications.
• Support the coordination of trustee activities and follow-up on agreed actions.
• Liaise with external stakeholders as needed (e.g. Charity Commission, VHL Alliance).

Documentation & Record-Keeping

• Maintain the charity’s governing documents and policies.
• Ensure secure and accessible storage of key documents and records.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

• Has strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Is detail-oriented and reliable.
• Communicates clearly and professionally.
• Has experience of minute-taking and document management (not necessarily in a charity setting).
• Is committed to the values and mission of VHL UK/Ireland.
• Ideally has lived experience of VHL or a related condition (not essential).

Date: Sunday 10 May 2026 

Time: Various roles available between 8am & 6pm 

Location: TBC; stationed along the 15 mile route of The Banham Marsden March 

Role overview (dependent on location and role): 

• Welcoming and supporting walkers at the start lines 

• Marshalling along the route to help keep walkers safe and cheer them on 

• Welcoming and encouraging walkers at our three checkpoints 

• Helping provide information and handing out refreshments 

• Handing out medals at the finish 

Support provided:  

• Full event briefing, including detailed information about the day and your role

• Charity liaison in the run up to the event and on the day

We are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC).

Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by a genetic leukodystrophy. Formerly ALD Life, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for people affected by adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy, the charity was established in 2004.

Due to popular demand, we extended our services to support all leukodystrophies in 2019 and became Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for adrenoleukodystrophy patients and their families. Our charitable work is supported by our chain of five charity shops across south east London.

With scant resources we are always in need of trustworthy and reliable volunteers to assist retail staff.

Abergavenny is one of our newer shops, beautifully designed to showcase quirky and unique donations. It also features a famous formalwear and bridal room, offering a unique shopping experience.
 

Considerations:

Age requirement: 16+

Location: 55 Frogmore Street, Abergavenny NP7 4AR 

Commitment:Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare, but ideally at least 2 hours per week.

Activities include:

• Providing a warm and friendly welcome to all customers entering the shop;
• Helping customers to locate items they are looking for;
• Serving customers at the till;

The Woo Cycle is a children’s picture book aimed at 4-8 year-olds. It is more than a book, it’s a tool for education, inclusion, and breaking taboos about bodies, cycles, and change. To bring it to the right audiences and ensure it’s sustainable, we need someone who can secure strategic partnerships and sponsorships. This role directly enables the book to have impact while supporting the financial viability of the project.

What you’ll do

• Identify and approach potential partners, sponsors, and collaborators aligned with the book’s mission

• Develop proposals and presentations to secure funding, sponsorships, and promotional opportunities

• Build and maintain relationships with organisations, brands, and networks that can amplify the book’s reach

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.

We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.

New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.
