We are seeking a qualified barrister or solicitor with at least 15 year’s post qualification legal experience to join our Board of Trustees* as a Legal Trustee, bringing sound legal judgement, empathy and a strong commitment to improving the lives of our beneficiaries.

You will bring:

• Understanding of Court of Protection issues and challenges.
• Experience of working with older people, disabled people or people with a cognitive impairment.
• Warmth, empathy and a non-judgmental approach. 
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to develop positive relationships with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. 
• Judicial Experience is desirable

About Us

The Thalidomide Trust is a unique organisation supporting beneficiaries, now all in their 60s, born with disabilities as a result of their mother taking the drug, thalidomide, during pregnancy. 

They are a remarkable group of people, who have achieved a great deal despite often living with extreme levels of disability, including limb damage, hearing and visual impairment, brain and sensory impairment and damage to internal organs.

Our beneficiaries have very complex and varied needs which are increasing as they age. We have gained an in-depth understanding of their evolving needs through our high level of contact with beneficiaries and our structured programme of three-yearly Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs).

Commitment

• This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
• London / St Neots / Hybrid
• You should also be willing and able to devote approximately 15 – 20 days (plus travel time) per annum to the Trust –and specifically be available to attend three full day board meetings and one morning virtual meeting.

Quartet’s Board of Trustees helps set our strategic direction, provides leadership and support to our staff team, and makes sure the organisation is well governed. 

As a Trustee, you will work with other Board members to form an effective and accountable governing body. Together, Trustees provide leadership and support for the dedicated staff team delivering Quartet’s strategic plan.

The skills and experience we’re looking for

Trustees come from all walks of life, and we want our Board and wider organisation to reflect the diverse communities of the West of England. If you have never been a charity trustee or sat on a board before, please still consider applying or getting in touch to discuss the role.

Summary of Role:

• Collecting and returning collection tins and donation boxes securely.

We are looking for a new member of the Canterbury Cathedral Audit and Risk Committee, which provides independent oversight of the Cathedral’s systems of internal control, risk management, and financial reporting. London is one of the most electric, fast-paced cities on Earth. Yet beneath the energy, a quiet crisis is unfolding.

Across the city, thousands of adults experience chronic loneliness and isolation every single day.

SUNSHINE exists to change that — boldly, joyfully, and unapologetically.

We bring positivity, warmth, and human connection into the lives of people who need it most.

To raise our profile, tell our story, and reach those who feel alone, we need powerful visuals. And that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for Photographer / Filmmaker Volunteers to help us capture the heart of SUNSHINE — our people, our programmes, our impact, and the lived experiences of those facing loneliness.

What You’ll Do

1. Capture SUNSHINE Across London

Head out into the city — parks, streets, markets, neighbourhoods — to capture photos and film clips of loneliness or positive human connection that reflect London’s diversity, energy, and humanity.

2. Document Our Activities

Attend SUNSHINE Programmes and events to photograph or film real moments of connection, joy, courage, and community.

3. Build Our Visual Library

Create a unique, high-quality collection of images and short video clips that we can use across our website, publicity materials, social media, and fundraising campaigns.

4. Tell Human Stories

Help us visually communicate the reality of loneliness — and the hope, positivity, and transformation that SUNSHINE brings.

5. Support Our Digital Presence

Work with our marketing volunteers to produce short clips, reels, TikToks, and social-ready visuals that raise our profile and inspire people to join us.

As a college governor, you’ll sit on the board of an FE institution (and registered charity), where your insight into strategy, risk, people, or finance will have a direct impact on how public funds are spent, how performance is measured, and how learners are supported to succeed.

What will you be doing? 

As part of a governing board, you’ll:

• Act as a charity trustee: ensure financial sustainability and legal compliance 

You’ll also engage with senior leaders and external stakeholders, including local employers, regulators, and community partners.

Prior education experience is not required. Full induction and training are provided, with access to DfE-funded development and peer mentoring where needed. 

Time commitment 

Expect to give approximately 1–2 days per month, including: 

• Attending board and committee meetings (in person or remote) 

• Reading papers and preparing questions 

• Participating in training and occasional college visits 

The time commitment is manageable alongside a full-time role—and many employers actively support staff to take on governance roles as part of their professional development. 

Where you’ll be needed 

Some colleges offer remote governance and meetings take place online. This may suit you best, or we may suggest a role where you volunteer on a hybrid basis at a college within a reasonable distance from you. We are recruiting governors for colleges across England, with new opportunities added regularly.
