• Work alongside the Executive and IT function to strengthen SSAFA’s digital capability

As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will oversee the strategic direction, governance and financial sustainability of the organisation. You will help ensure that PILC has a clear strategy, that its resources are used effectively, and that its activities remain aligned with its charitable objectives and values. You will also provide constructive support and challenge to the Senior Management Team, helping the organisation to develop, grow and achieve its mission.

Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the charity. This means that decisions are made collectively by the Board and trustees share responsibility for those decisions, always acting in the best interests of PILC.

Please note that this is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment for this role is approximately 8-10 days per annum. The Board meets online on the 3rd Monday of every other month from 6-8pm and trustees are required to attend with their cameras on. All Board papers are circulated usually 2 weeks ahead of the meeting.

Duties
As a Trustee, you will be expected to:
• Attend bi-monthly Board meetings (held remotely), having read the papers in advance and being prepared to contribute constructively to discussion and decision-making.
• Attend the annual Board away day and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Support, promote and provide advice on PILC’s charitable purpose, vision, values and strategic objectives.
• Approve operational strategies, policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee PILC’s financial sustainability by reviewing and approving budgets, PILC’s financial statements and monitoring and evaluating financial performance.
• Ensure that the charity is well governed, effectively managed and compliant with its legal and regulatory obligations.
• Support the effective management of risk and ensure that appropriate systems of internal control are in place.
• Provide appropriate support, constructive challenge and accountability to the Director in the exercise of their delegated authority.
• Keep informed about developments affecting PILC, the non-profit legal sector and the wider operating environment.
• Contribute to the regular review and continuous improvement of the Board's effectiveness and governance arrangements.
• Exercise independent judgement, act with reasonable care and skill, and always act in good faith in the best interests of PILC’s, managing any actual or potential conflicts of interest appropriately.
• Act as an ambassador for PILC, promoting its work and using your skills, knowledge, experience and networks to support the organisation where appropriate.

About Circular Kitchens

Circular Kitchens is a social enterprise and membership platform designed to help restaurants, cafés, pubs, food stalls, and other catering businesses become fully circular: Plastic Free, Ecological, Local, and Zero Waste.

By working with the hospitality sector, we are helping regenerate local communities, strengthen regional food systems, and increase demand for ecological and regenerative agriculture in the UK. Our current focus is launching Circular Kitchens in Whitstable and supporting our first mover restaurants to achieve 3 Star Circular Kitchens certification. Based on learnings from this pilot, we are preparing to scale across the UK, growing our environmental and social impact.

Role Description

Circular Kitchens is seeking a volunteer to support our early-stage software platform development, with a focus on how we manage restaurant resources, pledges, and audits using Coda. We are already working with a highly-skilled volunteer who has developed a strong plan of action and who will serve as a project manager and mentor. 

This role will include working with tools such as Coda, Softr, and Mailchimp to set up automations, clean up data, and brainstorm on future platform improvements. This work supports the early foundations of a scalable platform designed to support hundreds of Circular Kitchens members over time. It is a chance to work with fantastic people, quickly see the impact of your contribution, and be a part of truly building sometihng from the ground up! 

An Ideal Candidate Will Be:

• Experienced in computer science, data science, or a related field

• Comfortable working with digital tools, databases, and information management platforms like Coda

• Excited to work on evolving, early-stage systems

• Develop communication, relationship-building and community engagement skills.

Time Commitment

This is an ongoing volunteer role with a flexible commitment based on your availability and local opportunities. Support may be required on weekdays, evenings and weekends, depending on the activities you choose to get involved in.

A group of passionate, committed volunteers who will help shape, guide and grow MINDSET from the very beginning.

This is not a traditional board. This is a start‑up leadership team. A group of people who want to build something meaningful, ambitious and full of heart.

THE ROLES WE’RE RECRUITING FOR

We’re looking for volunteers who can bring their skills, passion and experience to one of the following areas:

1. Compliance

Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Data Protection, risk management and ensuring MINDSET operates safely and responsibly.

2. Strategy Planning & Development

Helping shape MINDSET’s long‑term vision, goals, priorities and growth.

3. Fundraising & Grant Writing

Developing fundraising ideas, writing grant applications and helping secure the resources we need to grow.

4. Accounting & Finance Management

Supporting budgeting, financial planning, record‑keeping and financial oversight.

5. Mental Health

Providing insight, guidance and expertise to ensure our support is safe, ethical and effective.

6. Self‑Improvement & Personal Growth

Helping shape programmes that build confidence, resilience, mindset and personal development.

7. Governance & Company Secretary

Supporting governance, documentation, policies and ensuring MINDSET meets its legal responsibilities.

8. Service Delivery, Events & Partnerships

Helping design and deliver our services, build partnerships and create meaningful events.

9. Marketing & Brand

Helping shape MINDSET’s voice, identity, storytelling and public presence.

10. Business Development & Strategic Partnerships

Building relationships with organisations, partners and supporters who can help MINDSET grow.

11. Campaigns

Creating awareness campaigns that inspire men and boys to seek support and get involved.

12. IT & Digital Infrastructure

Helping us build simple, effective digital systems that support volunteers, programmes and operations.

13. Research, Policy & Data

Gathering insights, analysing data and helping us understand the needs of men and boys in London.

14. Coaching, Mentoring & Life Coaching

Supporting the development of coaching and mentoring pathways within our programmes.

15. HR, Volunteer Management & Learning & Development

Helping recruit, support and develop volunteers across the charity.

Digital Champion

What You’ll Do

Support people aged 50+ to build confidence with their phones, tablets, or computers. You’ll help them learn basic digital skills so they can stay connected and independent.

You will:

• Provide one-to-one support at Digital sessions
• Help with everyday tasks like email, Zoom, downloading apps
• Guide people to feel confident using their own devices
• Answer questions and troubleshoot problems
• Record support sessions on Charity Log
• Identify common digital needs and refer to extra resources if needed

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

• Confident using smartphones, tablets, and laptops
• Friendly and patient teaching style
• Clear communication
• Problem-solving and adaptability
• Good timekeeping and dependability

Time Commitment

Tuesdays 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (Dugdale Arts Centre)

Other weekdays between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Location: Dugdale Centre, 39 London Rd, Enfield EN2 6DS

Possibly some community groups across Enfield
