Our Independent Visitor Service is looking for volunteers in or near to Droitwich Spa.

For many children and young people living in foster care can be unsettling. You can make a difference by volunteering as an Independent Visitor. 

We are looking for fun, reliable, and pro-active volunteers from all different cultures, backgrounds and experiences who have a genuine interest in making a difference to the lives of children and young people. 

You will decide with your young person what to do, but activities could include going to the cinema, bowling, playing football, going to a restaurant, riding a bike, or walking in a park. We will match you with a child you share common interests with. 

You do not need experience of working with children and young people, just an interest in their development and welfare. Full training and support are provided 

Here’s a few of the young people we have waiting for a volunteer: 

• Amy (12) lives with an older carer, she would like an active Independent Visitor who can do sports with her. 

• Brad (13) lives in residential care with other young people, he doesn’t have anyone in his family visit. He would like an Independent Visitor to take him out and have fun, like the other young people. 

• Cassie (16) lives with carers in a new town, she doesn’t have any friends in the area yet. She would like an Independent Visitor to help with her confidence and going out in the local area, she loves hot chocolate and cake. 

• Danny (11) lives with foster carers and attends a special school. He would like an Independent Visitor to help him be more independent, he likes parks, aeroplanes, and animals. 

• Emma (9) lives with her carer in a very busy household, she would like an Independent Visitor to spend some time with her on her own trying different activities together.

The Application 

• Volunteering mainly happens at weekends and after school hours as the young people are usually in school during the daytime 

• The role requires commitment of at least 24 months with one visit per month; this ensures stability for the Child or Young Person 

• Complete the Personal Statement section on the application form as fully as possible; tell us all about you; it forms part of the shortlisting process 

The groups also provide social activities for all the members and their families - for example, occasional outings and socials plus bowling and other outdoor activities. Free refreshments and items from their resource library are also available at meetings.

Adults' social group

This friendship group for adults and older teenagers generally meets fortnightly (alternating with the Children's and Teenagers' groups) during term time on Tuesdays from 7.00 to 9.00pm Children's and Teenagers' social groups

The Children's and Teenagers' group generally meets fortnightly (alternating with the Adults' group) during term time on Tuesdays from 6.00 to 8.00pm

The Southampton volunteer Group Leader will be responsible for the co-ordination of the NAS South Hampshire branch’s adult and older teens social group and the children and teens social group.

What you will be doing

• Planning sessions, including activities and other ideas, and co-ordinating the other volunteers attending both groups,
• Welcoming the autistic children, young people and adults to each of the sessions
• Interacting with those attending, making sure that everyone can engage in the activities in a safe manner.
• Organising the setting up and clearing away before and after the club activity
• Keeping the branch chair informed of both group’s activities in the upcoming sessions and attending branch committee meetings
• Ensuring your branch complies with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding.
• Any agreed expenses incurred will be reimbursed by the branch
• You will be supported in your role by the Branch Chair and former group leader.
• You will have access to a dedicated NAS email address for this role
• A criminal record check is a requirement of this role

Sabre Education is an award-winning international NGO which, since 2004, has been providing children in Ghana with the best possible early childhood education by partnering with the government to implement play-based learning at scale.

To support our ambitious growth strategy both in Ghana and other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Sabre is seeking to recruit
1-2 new Africa-based trustees for our Board, in response to recent retirements.

The Trustee position is a voluntary role requiring a minimum of four formal Board meetings a year (half day each) and occasional other meetings or events as they arise. A minimum three-year commitment will be required.

Trustees are responsible for the overall strategic direction and oversight of the charity, and provide support and guidance to the strong management team, holding it accountable to agreed objectives. The Trustees also collectively ensure effective governance, and compliance with company and charity law. As the ultimate decision-makers, they ensure the charity fulfills its purpose and manages resources responsibly.

This is an active Trustee group. Individually, Trustees are expected to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience to guide the charity, and to further its objectives. From time to time, Trustees will be asked to represent Sabre Education at external functions, or support Sabre’s work through engagement with key stakeholders and through their own networks.

We are looking for Trustees with the following profiles:

• Proven strategic leadership experience
• Strong communication skills and collaborative style
• An understanding and appreciation of good governance, compliance and risk management
• Lived experience in Africa, in particular Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Desirable: Professional skills and experience in at least one of the following core contexts:
  • Experience in scaling international programmes or organisations
  • Finance / Business Management

We are busy team delivering the Supported Internships programme in Stafford (ST18). The programme is based around employment and leisure for young adults with learning disabilities between age 16 and 25. We help people to develop skills for work in a employment setting and build their confidence.

We prepare them for work, and help them improve their Maths and English skills in a classroom setting, as well as:

• Improving their confidence and communication skills
• Building on their social skills with each other and out in the community
• Keeping them inspired and engaged

What You will be doing:

• You will support staff in the classroom with activities
• You will support learners to improve their Maths and English skills
• You will engage with learners, to improve their confidence and independence
• You will encourage learners to try new things and gain new skills
• Out in the community you will support staff to keep learners motivated and engaged

As a volunteer you will help Mencap staff deliver the classroom sessions assisting young adults to improve their skills, and be a support in the community.

**The classroom sessions run from 9am - 4.30pm. Monday and Tuesday. We require a volunteer to be able to commit to one day per week or fortnightly for the academic year. **

The volunteer Autism Support Group Leader will be responsible for the co-ordination and running of the NAS South Hampshire Branch’s autism support group which takes place monthly on a Monday evening.

Coordinator Volunteer - Read Easy Leeds

Are you an enthusiastic volunteer looking for a new role where you'll be able to use your organisation and people skills to really make a difference? Are you passionate about helping others? Could you be part of someone’s journey towards learning to read?

Read Easy Leeds is a local charity that provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading. As part of the Read Easy UK network, we help adults improve their reading skills, confidence and opportunities in life. We are looking to expand our work and are seeking new Coordinators to join our friendly team.

This voluntary position would be ideal for someone with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, alongside excellent people skills and a friendly, caring nature. If you enjoy helping others and finding practical solutions, this could be the perfect role for you.

Being a Coordinator is a vital and rewarding role within the Read Easy Leeds team. You will meet adults who want to learn to read and interview volunteer Reading Coaches. You will then pair Readers with Coaches and provide ongoing support, alongside our Literacy Specialist, checking in regularly to ensure that both Reader and Coach are progressing well. You will play an important role in helping the group continue to thrive and grow.

You do not need previous experience, and you do not need to have volunteered as a Reading Coach first. Full training and support will be provided by Read Easy UK, and you will work alongside an enthusiastic and supportive team.

The role is flexible and can largely be carried out from home. However, you will need to make occasional visits to reading pairs at venues across Leeds and attend occasional in-person meetings.

You can choose your own hours and the number of reading pairs you support. Most Coordinators spend around 3 to 5 hours per week in the role. Some daytime and evening availability is essential. To get the most from the role, we ask Coordinators to commit to supporting Read Easy Leeds for at least one year.

Please be aware that reading sessions take place at venues across Leeds, mainly libraries and community centres. As the role occasionally involves visiting reading pairs to provide support, you will need to be based in or near Leeds and able to travel across the city when required.

We’re looking for trustees

We’re looking to recruit dynamic, committed and motivated people with professional skills and experience who are as passionate as we are about empowering individuals to work through and beyond their experience of sexual abuse.

Specific qualifications are not necessarily required and we welcome applicants with lived experience. A genuine interest in learning about our charity and our services within the local community is essential.

These trustees will help to form a new board dedicated to supporting the charity and contributing to the effective and quality governance of Trust House. You will play an active role in developing the strategic direction of the charity and provide guidance to ensure the charity continues to support anyone affected by rape or sexual abuse in the Thames Valley area.

Prison-based volunteers are the backbone of Fine Cell Work (FCW). Supported by the Fine Cell Work programmes team and by other staff at the FCW office, they teach and administer FCW stitching groups in prisons.

Prison volunteers work in teams to organise classes and teach our stitchers, as well as providing groups information to the prison and to the FCW office. The precise mix of skills will vary from prison to prison.

Volunteering in prison for Fine Cell Work requires ideally a good level of needlework skill (or a willingness to learn), some teaching experience and/or experience of working with socially-excluded groups. Volunteers must be patient and non-judgemental in order to work effectively. As a prison volunteer you will:

• Developing skills and confidence
• Teach prisoners to stitch FCW products within the framework of our training programme
• Encouraging and supporting prisoners to volunteer as class coordinators and peer mentors
• Encouraging and helping prisoners who wish to undertake their own creative projects

Volunteers work in prisons around the UK dependant on where groups are based, therefore it is requred that volunteers will be able to travel to the relevant prisons. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.

Two small community based organisations in Malawi are seeking practical finance support to strengthen day to day financial management, reporting and controls.

Both organisations work across vocational training, youth development and livelihoods support, with small local teams and simple finance systems.

The volunteer will work closely with staff to improve budgeting, cashflow management, financial reporting, record keeping, controls and procedures.

This is a very practical grassroots placement, focused on helping local teams build confidence, consistency and simple sustainable systems.

It would suit a collaborative and adaptable volunteer who is comfortable working hands on with small organisations and providing patient, practical mentoring.
