The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust (JSAWT) is seeking new Trustees to join its dedicated and collaborative Board.

What we do:

JSAWT supports UK-registered charities that rescue, rehabilitate, release, and rehome animals by providing vital grant funding.

We focus on smaller organisations—where our support can make a real difference—helping transform the lives of animals and the people who care for them. From volunteer-led hedgehog rescues to international wildlife conservation initiatives, our work spans a diverse and inspiring range of causes.

Applications are reviewed three times a year by the Board of Trustees. Awards are given on a case-by-case basis to charities that meet our criteria and clearly demonstrate how the funding will benefit animals in their care.

• Act as an ambassador for JSAWT. You may be invited to represent JSAWT at events hosted by charities we support. Trustees are also encouraged to visit applicants and previous grant recipients, helping to strengthen relationships and ensure our awards are used as intended.
• You will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and Administrators to ensure JSAWT achieves its mission and long-term objectives.

You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to JSAWT’s values and a passion for improving the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

We welcome applications from individuals with knowledge and experience in any of the following areas:

• IT and cybersecurity, especially for a small non-profit organisation.
• Legal aspects of charity management and compliance.
• Communications and marketing, ideally for a small non-profit organisation.

Previous Trustee experience is not essential – we welcome applications from people new to charity governance. Full induction and support will be provided.

Potential Trustees must be able to commit to reviewing documents and applications in advance of meetings and be able to communicate their decisions.

The Board is friendly and inclusive and welcomes discussion and expression of opinions in a respectful and supportive environment.

Terms:

• Three Board meetings are held in March, July/August, and November. The meetings are held at the London office. They are usually in the afternoon and can last 4-5 hours.
• Attendance in person is encouraged; however, Trustees may attend virtually if this is preferable.
• The office has step free access and is all on one level.
• There may be occasional sub-committee meetings or events (virtual or in person).
• Reasonable expenses incurred by attending meetings (or other agreed work) may be reimbursed: for example, travel, subsistence, and childcare.
• The initial term is three years, with the option of renewal for a further three years.

• Supporting the group facilitators to plan weekly sessions
• Setting up the room, including tables, chairs and resources for the participants
• Supporting the facilitator to run particular activities as part of the session delivery

You will receive regular 1 to 1s and supervision with line manager and oportunities to attend volunteer meetings and events!

• Strong written communication and storytelling skills, particularly for social change, community impact, and beneficiary-centred narratives
• Ability to translate programme data and outcomes into measurable impact statements
• Experience preparing or contributing to reports and documentation for funders, including outcomes and financial narratives
• Understanding of, or experience within, non-profit, CIC, charity, or social impact sectors

• Identify funding opportunities: Proactively source and monitor relevant grant-making organisations, charitable trusts, foundations, statutory bodies, and corporate funders aligned with the organisation’s mission, values, and programmes. Maintain awareness of emerging funding trends and opportunities within the non-profit and social impact landscape.
• Research eligibility and priorities: Analyse funder guidelines, eligibility criteria, strategic priorities, funding cycles, and assessment processes to determine suitability. Provide clear recommendations on which opportunities to pursue and advise on positioning applications for best alignment.
• Write high-quality grant proposals: Develop clear, persuasive, and well-structured grant applications, expressions of interest, and supporting documents. Translate complex programmes and outcomes into compelling narratives supported by evidence, budgets, and measurable impact.
• Collaborate with internal teams: Work closely with programme leads, finance, monitoring and evaluation, and leadership teams to gather accurate data, budgets, case studies, outcomes, and delivery plans. Ensure proposals reflect current activities and realistic capacity.
• Application and deadline management: Maintain an organised and transparent system to track funding opportunities, application stages, deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations. Ensure timely preparation and submission of all materials.
• Compliance and quality assurance: Ensure all grant submissions meet ethical standards, legal requirements, and Community Interest Company (CIC) regulations. Review applications for accuracy, consistency, safeguarding considerations, and data protection compliance before submission.
• Funding tracking and reporting support: Record funding awarded, declined, or pending. Assist with donor acknowledgement, progress updates, and end-of-grant reports by collating outcomes, financial information, and impact evidence in line with funder requirements.
• Continuous improvement: Reflect on feedback from funders, analyse success rates, and contribute to improving grant-writing processes, templates, and organisational funding strategy over time.

The Community Moderation & Safeguarding Officer ensures that all digital and community spaces operate safely, ethically, and responsibly, protecting members, volunteers, and the CIC itself.This is not a passive role. It is a high-responsibility, systems-driven position where vigilance and structured response are critical.

To manage safeguarding and moderation protocols across all digital platforms and community touchpoints, acting as the first point of escalation for risk, abuse, or harmful content.

To uphold UK safeguarding compliance, maintain accurate records, support moderation teams, and advise leadership on risk trends, mitigation, and community safety — protecting trust and ethical engagement.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential experience

• Practical experience in safeguarding, child protection, or vulnerable-adult contexts, or closely related roles involving risk assessment and duty of care.
• Background in social care, youth work, education, community services, mental health, or survivor-support environments with sensitive disclosures.
• Experience moderating online communities or managing safety in digital spaces, particularly those involving vulnerable or at-risk groups.
• Proven ability to identify risk, assess severity, and respond appropriately, including recognising when immediate escalation is required.
• Experience handling incidents and maintaining clear, factual documentation and records in line with safeguarding expectations.
• Experience contributing to or applying safeguarding policies, protocols, or guidance in real-world settings.

Essential skills

• Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, boundaries, confidentiality, and safe handling of disclosures.
• Ability to apply a trauma-informed approach, communicating calmly and respectfully while prioritising safety and dignity.
• Clear written communication skills for incident logs, escalation summaries, and internal reporting.
• Sound judgement and emotional resilience when working with distressing or sensitive material.
• Ability to support and guide volunteers, providing clear advice and reassurance on moderation decisions.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Develop, implement, and maintain clear moderation and safeguarding frameworks that are trauma-informed, practical, and consistently applied across all CIC platforms.
• Monitor all community spaces to identify harmful or abusive behaviour, boundary violations, and high-risk disclosures involving children, survivors, or vulnerable adults.
• Take timely moderation action in line with protocols, including content removal, access restrictions, warnings, or escalation to safeguarding leads.
• Escalate safeguarding incidents promptly and accurately in accordance with CIC procedures, prioritising cases involving immediate or serious risk.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of incidents, actions taken, outcomes, and follow-ups to ensure accountability and audit readiness.
• Support a safe and respectful community culture by reinforcing behaviour standards, tone-of-voice guidance, and survivor-centred practices.
• Train and support volunteers in trauma-informed moderation, safeguarding awareness, confidentiality, and correct escalation pathways.
• Review incident trends and recurring risks, recommending improvements to moderation systems, guidance, and preventative controls.
• Liaise closely with Social Media Engagement Officers, Campaign Managers, and Membership & Community Directors to ensure joined-up safeguarding practice.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting updates to policies, protocols, response scripts, and internal safeguarding documentation.

Circular Kitchens is a social enterprise and membership platform designed to help restaurants, cafés, pubs, food stalls, and other catering businesses become fully circular: Plastic Free, Ecological, Local, and Zero Waste.

Role Description

We are seeking a volunteer to support our development of a sustainable wholesale products database. This role will involve researching products that restaurants use (e.g. paper napkins, take-away containers, condiments) and ranking them using our scoring system. The aim is to remove uncertainty from sustainable procurement, helping our members make responsible decisions and avoid purchasing from companies engaged in greenwashing.

As the scoring system is built, this role is primarily a data entry position that requires some research skills and strong attention to detail.
