Experience Qualification and Requirements
Essential
- Ability to commit grassroots full-time effort during the build phase (rest follows completion, not the clock)
- Comfort working unpaid while foundational systems and culture are established
- Deep alignment with community-led, anti-capitalist values and collective ownership
- High levels of consistency, focus, and self-direction in ambiguous, early-stage environments
- Clear understanding that meaningful change requires discipline, structure, and follow-through, not aesthetics or hype
- Commitment to always working through organisational values: Each One Teach One, Love As Law, Knowledge of Self
- Prior experience in one or more of the following: community building or stewardship, membership programmes or participation models , customer, supporter, or community experience roles, systems thinking and organisational design, digital platforms, CRMs, or data-informed engagement, purpose-driven, grassroots, or movement-led organisations
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation
- Strong relational skills, including listening, facilitation, and respectful boundary-setting
- Comfort holding complexity, conflict, and accountability with care
- Willingness to be both architect and steward of culture

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties
Membership Strategy & Structure
- Design and implement the CIC’s founding membership model, defining clear entry points, engagement pathways, and retention approaches rooted in participation rather than extraction.
- Shape intentional progression routes that support members to move from supporter → contributor → leader, ensuring growth in responsibility, agency, and influence over time.
- Align membership pathways with donor journeys, ambassador programmes, and volunteering routes, ensuring coherence across engagement, fundraising, and advocacy without conflating value with money.
Community Building
- Create a membership culture where people consistently feel seen, informed, included, and valued, regardless of role, status, or capacity.
- Establish sustainable rhythms of communication, updates, shared learning, and reflection that foster belonging, trust, and transparency.
- Enable decentralised participation by supporting member-led initiatives, peer leadership, and collective decision-making rather than top-down control.
- Act as a steward of healthy community dynamics, encouraging dialogue, accountability, and mutual care.
Systems & Data
- Oversee the setup and ongoing use of membership systems (e.g. CiviCRM or equivalent), ensuring they serve people rather than manage them.
- Track and interpret membership growth, engagement, and retention, using insight to strengthen participation and address disengagement early.
- Work collaboratively with Digital, Finance, and Social teams to maintain clean, accurate data and ensure ethical, transparent, and values-aligned data use.
Values & Culture
- Protect the integrity of the membership community by upholding CIC values in all structures, communications, and decisions.
- Identify and address misalignment early, clearly, and respectfully, prioritising restoration and learning over exclusion.
- Co-create and uphold community standards rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility—not surveillance or control.
Founding Responsibility
- Help design the future paid Membership Department, including roles, systems, and workflows that reflect collectivism and sustainability.
- Contribute to long-term organisational planning, ensuring membership is a pillar of resilience and shared ownership.
- Act as a culture carrier, modelling commitment, discipline, and collective leadership throughout the build phase.

About The Role

Volunteer Placement Counsellor
Location: Remote - online & telephone
Hours: 3 x clients per week - Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays

Wimbledon Guild are recruiting up to three Volunteer Placement Counsellors to help deliver our online and telephone counselling service.
We offer up to 16 sessions of individual online or telephone counselling to people who might find it hard to leave their homes, or their carers.
You will be on or have completed a Level 4 or above counselling course and have completed 50 hours of clinical experience or the equivalent.
You will be available to attend online supervision at 3.30pm Tuesday afternoons. You will see a caseload of up to 3 clients online or over the telephone on either Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. As this position is for online / telephone counselling, you will need access to a private and confidential working space, Wi-Fi, a private laptop and telephone.
Wimbledon Guild Talking Therapies is accredited with BACP.
In return for your volunteering, you will receive free, online supervision, a full induction, and experience in a well-established counselling department in a London-based charity.

About The Role
By caring for amphibians and supporting the Toad Hall exhibit, this role plays a vital part in conservation education and biodiversity protection. Volunteers help raise awareness of wetland species and the threats they face by engaging the public through interactive presentations, inspiring visitors to value and support wetland conservation.
What will you be doing:
- General animal husbandry such as feeding, water changes, and exhibit maintenance.

About You
Who are we looking for?
There are two parts to this role: assisting with daily animal management duties in the Living Collections department and engaging our visitors on the amphibians and the work of Living Collection. Both aspects are equally important, and so we are looking for volunteers with the following:
- Basic animal husbandry knowledge, with a particular interest in amphibians would be advantageous
- Excellent customer service skills; confidence and enthusiasm when engaging the public
- Good physical health – this role will involve some manual handling
- Good attention to detail and able to follow instructions
- The ability to work on your own initiative under the direction of the Ectotherm team, following strict animal care protocols.
The role would be enjoyable for those who love working closely with animals, educating others, and gaining hands-on experience in an internationally important wetland site. This role is particularly for those that are able to volunteer with us on Saturday as we are keen to boost our team on that day, other days may be available through other advertised roles.
Please note that this role is not suitable for those under the age of 18.

About You
This role will suit you if you:
- Have good communication skills and an outgoing personality
- Looking for some relevant work experience
- Have a willingness to talk to visitors both on a one-to-one level and to larger groups
- Are interested in education related activities and the natural environment
- Have excellent customer service skills
- Enjoy working with families and children
- Have previous experience of face painting
- Are happy volunteering on your own initiative under the direction of the Visitor Experience Manager
Please note that unfortunately this role is not suitable for Under 18’s.

Support the work of St John Ambulance in your community by volunteering as a Community Volunteer, an exciting new role which is designed to revamp how volunteering looks in the modern world; flexible, innovative and is open for all.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient. Community Volunteers can choose from a wide selection of activities – including fundraising, talks and demonstrations, supporting at events, volunteer welfare, social media and administration support.
Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Give as much (or little) time as you can afford. With this new role, you simply volunteer when it works for you. That means you can give as much time as you like or as little as 24 hours across a whole year, whenever it suits you. It’s perfect for busy lives, changing schedules, or for anyone seeking a low-commitment involvement.

Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with a buddy, as well as invite you to the network meetings.
