Loneliness and isolation can have devastating effects on a person’s mental and physical health. We are a registered charity providing a pathway of support to alleviate the hurt and distress, and the impact on mental and physical health, caused by loneliness and social isolation.
We are looking for Group Volunteers to join our existing team of fantastic volunteers and help with running our supportive social groups which provide a monthly opportunity to meet in Oxford or Abingdon. We are also setting up a new service in Bnabury with a group.
These groups offer a welcoming, safe and supportive environment in which Archway Friends can meet with and gain confidence in relating to others, develop new friendships and ultimately engage with people and activities in their local community. Volunteers attend one group a month (or more if they would like!) and meet and greet Friends (what we call people who come to our groups and use our services) as well as helping to facilitate the group with activities, moving around the group, helping with refreshments and actively listening to the people who attend.
We ask volunteers to think of this as a longer term volunteer role due to the training and time we take in order to give our volunteers, and Friends, the very best service. You will also need to consider occasional time spent in training for your role and for continuous development.

Due to our Safeguarding regulations, unfortunately we are only able to accept applications from UK residents.
Enhanced DBS checks for working with vulnerable adults (formerly called criminal records bureau checks) which we will organise (no cost to this) and two references are required.

Volunteer Placement Counsellor
Location: Remote - online & telephone
Hours: 3 x clients per week - Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays
Supervision provided:3.30pm Tuesdays, fortnightly
Wimbledon Guild are recruiting up to three Volunteer Placement Counsellors to help deliver our online and telephone counselling service.
We offer up to 16 sessions of individual online or telephone counselling to people who might find it hard to leave their homes, or their carers.
You will be on or have completed a Level 4 or above counselling course and have completed 50 hours of clinical experience or the equivalent.
You will be available to attend online supervision at 3.30pm Tuesday afternoons. You will see a caseload of up to 3 clients online or over the telephone on either Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. As this position is for online / telephone counselling, you will need access to a private and confidential working space, Wi-Fi, a private laptop and telephone.
Wimbledon Guild Talking Therapies is accredited with BACP.
In return for your volunteering, you will receive free, online supervision, a full induction, and experience in a well-established counselling department in a London-based charity.

You'll be raising awareness, & improving understanding of sight loss through delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions in your local community. Through these engaging sessions, you'll inspire participants to make small changes to their behaviour that make a massive difference in the day-to-day lives of people with sight loss. As a Community Change Champion, this will involve:
• Talking directly with community leaders, businesses, & local groups about ways they can get involved & inviting them to join an Awareness to Action session.
• Delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions either in person or online, using our resources. You may do this on your own or with a team of other local volunteers, both sighted and with sight loss.
• Sharing RNIB’s information & initiatives so people know we’re here for them.
• If you have a personal link to sight loss, sharing your experience during the session to help give a tangible example of how local people can make a real difference.
• Telling us about any activities you have engaged in via a Microsoft form.

Role summary
Community Bereavement Cafés are welcoming and open spaces for people to talk about their grief. Facilitators help run and facilitate the cafes.
A standard DBS check will be required for this role.
Main duties of this role may include any of the following:
· Help prepare the venue for the café set up – positioning chairs, preparing refreshments, making the seating welcoming and conducive to a positive experience.
· Welcome people as they arrive.
· Provide name labels to ensure people are known by name.
· Identify newcomers and assist them to settle in – making introductions and offering a helping hand to begin with. Being sure to withdraw yourself from the group when it feels right to allow peer support to take over and blossom.
· Offer and make drinks, clear cups etc.
· Facilitate a session in the Cafe after receiving bereavement training.
· Give notice before the café is due to end so that people can draw their conversations to a close.
· Occasionally, at the end, distribute feedback forms to participants to complete anonymously.
· When everyone has left, put the room back to how it was before the café started.
· Escalate any concerns or worries about attendees to the Cafe lead.
·Uphold strict confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

The Wellbeing Officer (Trustee) provides information, guidance and advice to volunteers and service users around topics such as mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, if service users or volunteers have any concerns, the best point of contact is the wellbeing officer.
What do we specifically expect of this role?
● Delivery of a plan to proactively assist officers and volunteers in public-facing roles, with tools and techniques to prevent or reduce any initial harm/trauma from purposeful or accidental harmful interactions - social media, live events, outreach, panel events, etc.
● Providing support for service users by way of triaging and responding to requests that come through to the wellbeing inbox. ● Building and maintaining wellbeing resources for service users and following a data-informed approach as to areas of wellbeing improvement. How much commitment is required?
We are flexible around your own schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:
● To be able to attend all Trustee meetings and to deliver a comprehensive report to the committee each meeting with updates and to completed actions as and when they appear;
● To aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary when close to Hidayah events as well as the events themselves (where possible due to geography);
● To help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives;
● To be part of a communications group to keep up to date with Hidayah developments;
● To contribute toward and to maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ so it is always up to date with clear records, templates and forms; 1
