Our shops play an essential role in raising the profile of the RSPCA in our local community and funds for our branch so that we can continue our vital animal welfare work. Our shops sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, and a selection of new items.

Online Sales Volunteer responsibilities

• Researching and listing the items for sale in our dedicated Vinted store.
• A picture is worth 1,000 words so ensuring that attractive photographs are taken to boost sales.
• Packaging items appropriately before posting them to the buyer.
• Maintaining accurate records of listed and sold items.

What we are looking for in our Online Sales Volunteers:

• Basic knowledge of any online selling platforms (Vinted, ebay, Whatnot)
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail 
• Ability to take clear photographs and write accurate descriptions
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email and online payment systems 
• Good communication skills and a friendly, helpful attitude
• Someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment
• Work both remotely and at our New Bradwell Hub

Site managers are responsible for establishing partnerships with University Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) and Islamic Societies (ISocs),  and maintaining positive relationships with these sites. 

Key tasks 

• Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with the MSA/ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students and promote retention of sites 

• Be responsible for overseeing all onsite logistics through liaison with the Student Ambassador to ensure that onsite logistics including advertising of the class and other required tasks are taken care of by the MSA/ISoc 

• Be the point of contact for ISocs: answer questions from the MSA/ ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to the best of your ability and engage them on a 1-1 basis, listen to their needs and concerns and addressing these accordingly 

• Collect ideas and best-practices from how different MSAs/ISocs are delivering their class 

• Participate in onboarding current and new sites prior to the start of the academic year 

• Be the point of contact internally for any queries or updates related to assigned MSAs/ISocs

• An understanding of the Muslim university scene and how university MSAs/ISocs operate.

• Ability and keenness to make and maintain genuine connections with people.

This role will require an in-person interview, which will take place provisionally in West Bromwich. Interview dates/times will be emailed to you should your application be successful. Once your screening for role has been completed, you will be invited to attend your local St John Ambulance Network for a Welcome and Induction.

Purpose of the role

To oversee Deaf Unity’s financial operations, ensuring that the charity remains financially viable and complies with Charity Commission regulations and strong accounting practices at all times, The Treasurer will ensure that proper financial records are kept and that the Board of Trustees understands the financial position at all times. 

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the charity’s financial position
• Present budgets, management accounts and financial statements to the Board
• Help trustees understand financial information and advise on financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans
• Support budgeting and financial planning, including developing and implementing financial policies (e.g. reserves and investment policies),
• Ensure proper financial controls are in place and that proper accounting records are kept
• Oversee the preparation of annual accounts
• Ensure compliance with Charity Commission and HMRC regulations (e.g. Gift Aid)

You will work closely with the CEO, Chair, trustees and staff who are managing day-to-day finance and banking and will be required to attend quarterly meetings of the Finance and Risk sub-group of the Board, in addition to the full Board meeting

What is a trustee?

All trustees share responsibility for running the charity.

This includes:

• Attending board meetings, usually 4 times per year.
• Helping make strategic decisions
• Acting in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries

Skills we are looking for

The Biochemical Society is seeking to recruit three Independent Trustees for the Council of Trustees to serve an initial five-year term of office, with the potential to extend to a maximum eight-year term. Our Trustees shape the direction of the Society and the delivery of our work; promoting the importance of the molecular biosciences as a discipline, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise and supporting molecular bio-scientists across all career stages.

As an Independent Trustee you will work closely with the wider Trustee Council to set the Society’s strategy, maintain oversight of the organisations’ financial position and manage organisational risk. Contributing an independent voice to discussions, you will collaborate effectively with others for the benefit of the Society. Trustees gain valuable experience in board/committee work, board room dynamics and the overall governance of a charity and company, whilst helping to make a real difference for the molecular bioscience community.

Trustees work closely with senior staff members, and other volunteers across the Society’s governance framework. The anticipated time commitment is approximately 12 days per year, for which reasonable expenses will be reimbursed should travel be required.

• Supporting with small improvement or refurbishment projects

Additional (desirable) support:

• Assisting with moving stock or equipment between locations
• Helping with collections or deliveries if you hold a driving licence

• Someone practical and confident in carrying out DIY and maintenance tasks

• Experience in general maintenance, repairs, or a trade (informal experience is welcome)

• A proactive, problem-solving approach

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively

Prison-based volunteers are the backbone of Fine Cell Work (FCW). Supported by the Fine Cell Work programmes team and by other staff at the FCW office, they teach and administer FCW stitching groups in prisons.

Prison volunteers work in teams to organise classes and teach our stitchers, as well as providing groups information to the prison and to the FCW office. The precise mix of skills will vary from prison to prison.

Volunteering in prison for Fine Cell Work requires ideally a good level of needlework skill (or a willingness to learn), some teaching experience and/or experience of working with socially-excluded groups. Volunteers must be patient and non-judgemental in order to work effectively. As a prison volunteer you will:

It is essential for volunteers to support FCW ethos, believe in rehabilitation, be an excellent teamworker, observe personal boundaries, be reliable and patient to ensure cell groups run smoothly, and have record-keeping skills and have at knowledge of tapestry/needlework. . 

Volunteers work in prisons around the UK dependant on where groups are based, therefore it is requred that volunteers will be able to travel to the relevant prisons. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.
