What is a Branch Fundraiser?

As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.

What would you be doing?

• Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
• Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
• Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
• Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.

We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum of 2 court days per month attendance requiured. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.

New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.

About the Service

Solace is a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is made up of up to 12 members from across a range of professional and life experiences.

Solace is seeking trustees to join our Board to fulfil their responsibilities in developing the strategic direction and overall governance of the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the success of a growing charity that makes a profound and positive impact on the lives of women who have suffered from violence and abuse.

A successful candidate would have current or recent experience as a strategic HR Director in an organisation of similar scale and complexity to Solace Women’s Aid.

We are keen to appoint a candidate that thinks strategically, is passionate about the services we provide to women and girls and is therefore eager to utilise their expertise to contribute. We are looking for a committed Trustee who would take on the key role of chairing our HR & Governance subcommittee and will be integral to the governance of our Board.

Due to the nature of our work, we are looking for a female to take on this role, this is a genuine occupational requirement in line with the Equality Act 2010.

About the Location

We have two forms of meetings that trustees are expected to attend at our London head office; Board Meetings, which occur 4 times a year and Board Away Days which can take place up to two times annually. All trustees also need to be a part of a subcommittee, which are held online quarterly.

About the Time Committment

Trustees will need to attend 4 in person board meetings per year. Each trustee is expected to join at least one subcommittee, with meetings held remotely 4 times per year. The expected time commitment for trustees averages one day per month across the year.

Chatterbox Befrienders offer one-to-one telephone support and will call a client once a week offering companionship and a listening ear for an individual who might otherwise go unheard. Chatterbox volunteers befriend a variety of people including carers, socially isolated individuals who are struggling with loneliness, people with ill health and those that 
have been bereaved.

REQUIREMENTS OF A BEFRIENDER INCLUDE:

- Calling your client once a week for a chat of up to 45 minutes; this is a 26 week initial commitment, at the end of which each client’s needs are reviewed

- Completing an online call log record promptly after each phone call

- Ensuring immediate contact with the Chatterbox Coordinators if you feel that the client might be a risk to themselves or others

- Liaising with the Chatterbox Coordinator on a regular basis regarding the service, as well as discussing personal learning and development needs

- Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on befriending vulnerable adults

Due to the recent retirement of long serving members we are looking for enthusiastic new people to join our Board of Trustees.

St John’s Lichfield is an almshouse charity with origins going back to 1495 whose main object is to provide accommodation for poor persons in need. We own and manage 42 apartments, which are designed for comfortable and independent living, on 2 separate sites in Lichfield city centre: one in the Cathedral Close, the other at St. John’s without the Barrs (SJWTB) which includes its own chapel. At present we have an active and thriving community of 47 residents whose ages range from 44 to 93, though we have no restriction on age.  

Our constitution also allows us to make grants to individuals in need or to organisations which provide help for such persons. All of our beneficiaries must already be resident in the Diocese of Lichfield.

We rely on our investments to supplement the maintenance contributions received from our residents.

While we would be pleased to have people with skills in finance and accounting, business, capital projects, social care and the benefits system, what matters most is an interest in our charity, its history, its buildings and its people, and a desire to make a difference to our residents’ lives.

Role Summary

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

What we’re looking for

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organisation’s mission and impact to diverse audiences
• Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute effective fundraising plans
• Strong understanding of Islam and the Muslim Community
