Fort Amherst Heritage Trust cares for Fort Amherst in Chatham, Kent, preserving an important historic site and making it available for the benefit, enjoyment and education of the wider community. The Trust relies heavily on volunteers to help maintain, restore, interpret and promote the site for present and future generations.

Role Purpose

Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of Fort Amherst Heritage Trust. As a Trustee, you will help ensure that the charity fulfils its charitable purposes, complies with its legal duties and makes decisions in the best interests of the Trust and the communities it serves.

Key Responsibilities

· Work with fellow Trustees to set and review the Trust’s vision, strategy and priorities.

· Ensure the Trust carries out its charitable purposes for the public benefit.

· Oversee the responsible management of the Trust’s finances, assets, buildings, grounds and collections.

· Support good governance by complying with the Trust’s governing document, charity law and relevant regulations.

· Monitor risks, policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding, finance, data protection and volunteer management.

· Contribute to discussions and decisions at Board meetings, reading papers in advance and offering constructive challenge and support.

· Act as an ambassador for Fort Amherst, promoting its heritage, community value and volunteer-led work.

Skills and Experience

We welcome applications from people with a commitment to heritage, community benefit and good governance. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential. The Trust is particularly interested in people who can bring one or more of the following areas of experience:

· Education, learning, interpretation or visitor experience.

· Volunteer management, community engagement or inclusion.

Chair of Trustees - The Family Place Foundation

We are recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the next stage of our charity’s development.

Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person trustee meetings (typically once or twice a year) held in the Clyro/Herefordshire area.

Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 days per month. This includes six trustee meetings a year, occasional ad‑hoc discussions and light‑touch support between meetings (for example reviewing policies or responding to emails).

Established in 2020, we are a small, well-established charity with a strong grounding and a clear purpose. We raise funds to provide support to adopted, fostered and kinship care children and their families to improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and reduce the impact of early trauma. In collaboration with leading UK practitioners, we support the delivery of a range of services providing essential therapeutic care and family support that isn’t covered by statutory funding. Services offered include Family Activity Days, Specialist Clinical Workshops, Advisory Consultations and Family Respite Camps. We also work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children who cannot live with their birth families. We are now seeking a Chair of Trustees to help guide the charity through its next stage of development, including shaping our emerging Family Foundations project, a significant new early‑years initiative for the charity, alongside our ongoing portfolio of funded projects delivered through our specialist partner. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated Board and a small operational support team who care deeply about the families we serve and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.

The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.

As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will work closely with the trustees and operational colleagues to help shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the charity remains compliant, resilient, and focused on its mission. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner. 

A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.

We are looking for someone who brings:

• Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.

Helpful but not essential:

• Experience of chairing a board or committee

Project Overview

This role will offer the opportunity to become part of the volunteer team at the Warner Textile Archive to support the progress of making inert conservation polyester enclosures for the paper artworks within the collection. The role will involve careful handling of historic paper artworks and creation of bespoke inert polyester enclosures to contribute to the long-term preservation of our significant collection.

Role Description

• Careful handling of fragile historic artworks ranging in date from c.1870-2000s in order to produce accurate measurements to make polyester enclosures.

• Sorting artworks by size and condition to prioritize enclosure creation.

• Measuring, cutting via guillotine, and welding polyester to make the enclosures to exact measurements and conservation standards.

• Ensuring artworks go back into the correct locations after enclosures are made.

• Working with the team on any emergency enclosure requirements for vulnerable items.

Further Information

Full training and support will be given on all aspects of the role. No previous experience necessary. 

We are able to facilitate a flexible work schedule based on the volunteer’s existing responsibilities and deadlines. We require a minimum of ten days commitment to offer training, and to provide a meaningful work experience. A longer time period is preferable. 

Some online training on the history of Warner & Sons and collections care will be required prior to the volunteer’s start date.

The role is not remote and will require travel to Warner Textile Archive, Silks Way, Braintree, Essex, CM7 3GB. We have a travel bursary of up to £50 per day which is able to offer support with travel costs, and £5 per day for subsistence.

The Warner Textile Archive is a significant collection of design, business, economic and social history of textile manufacturing firm Warner & Sons, based in Braintree between the dates of 1870 – 2001. The Warner Textile Archive is the largest collection of an individual textile manufacturer available in the public domain in the United Kingdom. We hold over 100,000 administrative records, paper designs, trial samples, manufacturing equipment and textiles of Warner & Sons, their predecessors and successors, illustrating how furnishing textile manufacturing changed over more than 150 years.

Essential Skills and Knowledge Required

• Excellent spatial awareness and practical making skills which require attention to detail such as a background in pattern cutting, dress making or technical drawing.

• Interest in solving visual and spatial puzzles to limit wastage of materials.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the willingness to work with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers of different ages and backgrounds.

• Must be able to follow clear instructions and ask questions when unsure.

Your role is to support the Life Skills and Employability Programme Lead at the Baytree Centre in enhancing and delivering the Life Skills Project. This includes Her Space (Spark) for girls in school year 10 and above, Future Me (Jr Spark) for girls in years 8–9, and Step into Secondary (Sparklers) for girls in year 7. This involves co-facilitating weekly workshops that embed essential life skills and promote Baytree’s five Character Development traits: Resilience, Self Control, Fairness, Purpose, and Good Judgement. You will contribute to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where girls can explore important topics, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

Main responsibilities:

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a library of reusable, age-appropriate session plans.

- Engage with girls to incorporate their interests and ideas into session content.

- Assist in the delivery of group sessions, workshops, and activities.

- Research and source materials and resources to enhance session quality.

- Build supportive and respectful relationships with girls, young women, and families who access the centre.

- Ensure sessions are inclusive and representative of the diverse community served by Baytree. - Adhere to Baytree Centre’s policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health and safety.

- Complete volunteer questionnaires and evaluations as required.

- Attend development trainings sessions whenever Mentoring Programme is paused (i.e. beginning of the term and half term weeks).

- Work directly with clients across Baytree services (e.g. youth clubs, workshops, reception, and befriending activities).

Skills and qualities required:

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity based in Wolverhampton that supports, empowers, and advocates for women and children.

We aim to encourage women to become self-reliant by helping them identify their needs, make informed choices, and create their own solutions. Our services include a baby bank, a charity shop, and a range of community support initiatives for women facing crises or challenging circumstances.

Our Wolverhampton Baby Bank is a flagship project supporting families with children aged 0–3 by providing essential items and connecting them to vital community services.

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and organised Volunteer Office Manager (Onsite Volunteer) to oversee day-to-day administrative operations and act as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and enquiries.

This is a key role within the organisation, ensuring smooth communication, efficient processes, and a high standard of compassionate service delivery to the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for all incoming phone inquiries and visitors.

• Respond to client inquiries professionally and compassionately.

• Conduct initial intake screening and gather essential client information.

• Schedule appointments and manage staff calendars.

• Maintain accurate records of calls, referrals, and appointments.

• Manage email correspondence and administrative communications.

• Prepare, organize, and securely maintain client documentation.

• Maintain digital and physical filing systems in compliance with data protection policies.

• Support day-to-day office operations and ensure smooth administrative workflow.

• Track action items from meetings and follow up with relevant staff.

• Assist in preparing reports, summaries, and operational documentation.

• Coordinate communication between staff, volunteers, and external partners.

• Monitor office supplies and maintain administrative resources.

• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, confidentiality, and organizational policies.

• Escalate urgent, complex, or sensitive cases to appropriate personnel.
