People’s Health Trust is a national charity working with local communities across England, Scotland and Wales to stop people dying too young, help people live longer and healthier lives, and make health more equal.
We are entering an important new chapter. Our new five-year strategy, launching in October, will focus on working with communities most affected by poor health to co-design community-led solutions that tackle the causes of poor health, being a trusted source of evidence that shapes policy and practice, and growing our philanthropic and impact partnerships to enable greater reach.
We are looking for three people who can bring experience, insight and constructive challenge to our governance and help us increase our impact.
We are recruiting:
Philanthropy Trustee – bringing significant philanthropy, major gifts or major donor expertise to our Board.
Independent Member, Finance, Audit & Operations Committee – bringing senior finance, audit, risk or charity accounting experience.
Independent Member, Programmes, Impact & Influencing Committee – bringing experience of social justice programmes, policy, influencing, research, evaluation or evidence.
Whether you already have board experience or are considering using your professional expertise in a governance setting, this is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation tackling one of the most important challenges facing the UK.

Your primary contribution will include oversight of financial planning and reporting, audit, financial controls and risk management, with opportunities to contribute to wider discussions covering areas such as income generation, IT, people and legal matters.
Independent Member – Programmes, Impact & Influencing Committee
This role provides an opportunity to help shape and scrutinise the effectiveness of the Trust’s programmes, evidence, influencing and impact work. You will contribute strategic insight around areas including programme design and delivery, evaluation and learning, the use of evidence, public policy, influencing and communications.
We are particularly interested in people with knowledge of programmes addressing injustice, policy and public affairs, or research, evaluation and evidence-led decision-making.

We seek a Chair of Trustees with time and expertise to help develop the board of trustees in line with our values of compassion, courage and persistence! We are a small but impactful charity working internationally to support 'stuck' families and change policy.
We are looking for a Chair with experience of small charity governance and is able to compassionately lead the board and work with the CEO through a period of change.
We particularly welcome applications from women, and those with lived or professional experience of domestic abuse.
An understanding of fundraising through trusts and foundations as well as commissioning would also be beneficial to the charity as a whole.

Lead the world’s only NGO focused exclusively on tea workers’ and tea farmers’ rights, and help transform the tea industry to make it fair for all.
Over the past eight years, THIRST has built up a strong reputation among tea industry stakeholders for its work on human rights in the tea sector through knowledge creation and sharing, convening dialogue, co-creating solutions and advocating for change.
Highlights include the publication of our human rights impact assessment of the global tea sector, our briefing paper on the risk factors for gender-based violence in the tea sector, our Tea Community Visioning Workshops in Kenya and Darjeeling and our collaborations with companies such as Ahmad Tea, Teekampagne, and Typhoo – as well as highly valued staples like our webinars, our monthly global news round-up and our ever expanding Knowledge Hub.
Thanks to a generous grant, we have recently expanded our administration, communication, accounts and fundraising capacity and are about to launch a major new fundraising strategy that will provide the basis for ramping up the scale, ambition and impact of our work.
Future plans include mapping tea trade unions, reporting on progress to end gender based violence in the tea sector (in partnership with Women Working Worldwide), establishing a Darjeeling Tea Multistakeholder Roundtable and examining the implications of the climate crisis on women in the sector.
THIRST has a strong Board of Trustees, bringing expertise from the tea sector, trade unions, tea companies, charity governance, finance, human rights and law.
Jane Nyambura’s term as Chair has come to an end but she remains as a valued member of the Board, continuing to contribute her extensive knowledge of – and networks within – the Kenyan tea sector. We are now seeking a new Chair to bring new skills and experience and lead the team and steer THIRST through this next exciting phase.
We are seeking a strategic leader who shares our vision of a tea industry that is fair for all and is aligned with our principles of openness, inclusiveness, and collaboration, focused on practical and long-lasting solutions. If you fit that description, we look forward to hearing from you.
The deadline for applications has been extended to 31st October 2026
Please explain in your cover letter why you think you would be a good fit for this role, what you will bring to it and why you would like to be the next Chair of THIRST.
