Events Volunteers are an essential part of our work for reaching and supporting different communities. Our partners in the community hold events across the UK and your support will help ensure they run smoothly, and attendees have a positive experience! You may be on your own, or as part of a team so you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated. 

About you 

• Aged 18 years and over 

• Reliable and good at organising your time 

• Good attention to detail 

• Friendly and polite with good communication skills 

• Self-directed and motivated 

When and where 

• Events will vary regionally and may take place during the day, evening, or weekends as a one-off or regular occurrence 

• You’ll decide where and when you’d like to volunteer - we don’t expect anyone to travel far from their home

• We're looking for volunteers in Berkshire, Somerset, and Bristol

What you will do 

Your tasks will depend on who you are supporting and what kind of event they’re running, but they will probably include: 

• Completing agreed tasks on time and responding to any changes on the day 

• Engaging with families and sharing your expertise if appropriate (either professional or lived experience) 

• Supporting with different areas, e.g. signing people in, helping with directions, sharing information 

• Identifying tasks that need doing and any issues that need reporting 

• Using your initiative to respond to situations and help out without being asked 

• Presenting the National Deaf Children’s Society and our community partners in a positive way

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in an HR management role, ideally within the charity or community sector.

Role  Overview
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Volunteers to join our new drop in group in Herford that take place on 2nd Thursday of month, 10:30-12:30. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience.

This role is perfect for retired healthcare or student healthcare professionals or trainee speech and language students.

The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.

Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.

Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills and IT knowledge to take a register of attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with asphasia.
• Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
• Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Collaborate with other volunteers to enhance the group.

Qualifications

• An understanding or knowledge in aphasia is desirable.

We’re looking for friendly and welcoming volunteers to join us, who are enthusiastic and excited to help our clients and supporters. Whether you’re a confident communicator who wants to engage with your local community or a reliable and honest volunteer looking to help us sort our donations, we’d love to have you on board as a Fundraising Volunteer!

Fundraising Volunteers will volunteer within the BCWA Fundraising Team, assisting with their day-to-day activity, whether that’s helping sort our valuable donations, tidying and keeping our donation cupboards clean, supporting the team with tasks or helping with collections in the community.  Fundraising at BCWA can be a busy, high-pressure environment – our volunteers are integral at our busiest times of the year to ensure our clients and services get the support they need.

Volunteering with our Fundraising Team might look like:

• Supporting with processing donations – including moving and handling and carrying a variety of items.
• Helping keep our storage areas for donations clean and tidy.
• Getting involved with your local community and coming up with creative new ideas for fundraising drives.
• Assisting with collections if you are comfortable and have a valid UK Driving License.
• Being an advocate for BCWA!

Administration Volunteers will volunteer within the BCWA SPOC Team, who provide key administrative support to all BCWA services. Volunteers will assist in the smooth running of SPOC; they will access and input case data, collaborating with SPOC staff to ensure cases are allocated correctly. They will also have the opportunity to answer phone calls and enquiries, once they become confident in their role.  The SPOC team is a busy, sometimes high-pressure environment – our volunteers are integral at our busiest times of the year to ensure our clients and services get the support they need.

Volunteering with our SPOC team as an administrator might look like:

• Inputting data into the BCWA case management system.
• Consulting with our SPOC staff to ensure correct allocations.
• Reading referral information and identifying and establishing types of abuse.
• Future opportunities to answer enquiries and phone calls once you have an established knowledge of BCWA services and feel comfortable doing so.
• Being an advocate for BCWA!

Your Role as a Mentor

As a mentor, you will hold weekly one-on-one sessions of 1-3 hours for the duration of 12 months. You will help build confidence, resilience, and help your mentee manage feelings through a series of fun experiences and activities. Whether you’re playing games or discussing goals, you’ll be making a difference in a child’s life by developing the tools for a positive future.

As a College Governor, you’ll play a vital non-executive role in ensuring our colleges continue to deliver excellent, inclusive education. You’ll help set the strategic direction, monitor performance, and provide independent oversight and support to senior leaders.

About the Treasurer opportunity:

SIG is seeking a new Treasurer to join their Board of Trustees to manage the financial health of the organisation, ensuring compliance, and support strategic decision making.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Ensure organisational financial viability
• Work with Chief Executive and Finance Officer to achieve the financial sustainability of the organisation
• Oversee and approve budgets, accounts, and financial statements
• Oversee the integrity of financial planning, management, and reporting, ensuring effective use of resources and organisational sustainability
• Ensure robust internal controls, audit processes, risk management, and compliance frameworks are in place
• Provide governance, support and oversight in line with Charity Commission expectations, statutory responsibilities and legal obligations

Person Specification:

• Qualified Accountant or similar including ACT, ACCA, CIMA, CertT or ACA
• Experience in governance, senior leadership or strategic advisory roles
• Experience interpreting risk, performance and financial information
• Experience presenting complex information to non-specialists

The role involves:

• Four board meetings per year (online and in-person)
• Additional input into planning and specialist areas
• Approx. 4 hours per month
