We are looking for a volunteer to befriend and read to someone we support at our services. You will provide companionship to someone we support by spending time with them, visiting them and reading to them. 

Skills required

• To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guide/orientation.

All these courses will take approximately 40-60 minutes, apart from the First Aid which is 2 hours.

To support early years sessions for families with children aged 0–5, including those with SEND and emerging needs, by promoting engagement and child development through group activities.

Key Responsibilities:

· Welcome parents and carers to infant feeding sessions, making them feel at ease.

· Offer encouragement, reassurance, and a listening ear to families, providing peer support under staff guidance.

· Support with preparing and tidying away resources used during sessions.

· Model sensitivity, respect, and inclusivity when discussing feeding choices.

· Promote the benefits of breastfeeding and infant feeding best practices (Hertfordshire Family Centres are Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accredited through UNICEF)

About the Role

Every year, incredible supporters across the UK raise funds for people affected by cystic fibrosis. By volunteering with us, you'll help ensure fundraisers feel valued and supported, and we'll give you everything you need to feel confident in the role. Full training and support will be provided.

As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you'll play an important role in helping us build relationships with fundraisers and supporters in your local area. Whether you're attending events, thanking supporters, delivering fundraising resources or sharing local insight, you'll help ensure fundraisers feel appreciated and connected to the impact they're having.

• Flexible time commitment

This is a flexible, ongoing volunteer opportunity that can fit around your existing commitments. 

What You'll Be Doing

You could support us in a variety of ways, including:

• Attending fundraising events and representing Cystic Fibrosis Trust in your local area. 
• Thanking supporters and organisers, including giving a short speech if you're comfortable doing so. 
• Delivering and collecting fundraising materials and resources. 
• Collecting and returning collection tins and donation boxes securely.
• Sharing local knowledge and helping identify potential fundraising or partnership opportunities. 
• Providing occasional support to Community Fundraisers with local fundraising activities and events.

We recognise that every volunteer brings different strengths, experiences and interests, and aspects of the role can be tailored accordingly. 

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for people who:

• Are enthusiastic about supporting the work of Cystic Fibrosis Trust. 
• Enjoy meeting and communicating with a variety of people. 
• Have a friendly, positive and people-centred approach. 
• Feel comfortable working independently, while knowing support is available when needed. 
• Have basic IT skills and access to email and a phone. 
• Are willing and able to travel locally to support fundraising activities.

Experience in fundraising or volunteering is helpful but not essential. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of cystic fibrosis, either directly or through a family member, although this is not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

· Welcome parents, carers, and babies to the self-weigh session in a friendly and approachable way.

· Explain how to use the weighing equipment safely and accurately (training provided).

· Support parents to record their baby’s weight on growth charts or apps as appropriate.

· Ensure the weighing area is safe, clean, and ready for families to use.

· Provide reassurance and encouragement to parents and carers.

· Signpost any questions or concerns about a baby’s health or development to a Family Centre staff member

Volunteer with CAT’s Maintenance Team and gain skills as you help care for CAT’s unique site, our green buildings, and our off-grid sustainable energy systems.

What will you be doing?

As a Maintenance Volunteer you will help to maintain and improve CAT’s unique site. Built on the site of a disused Welsh quarry by a group of inspired volunteers, CAT’s site has a rich and fascinating past. For more than 50 years, CAT has been a place of experimentation, inspiration and learning, where sustainability is embedded into the buildings and landscape.

As a Maintenance Volunteer, you will join the Estates team in caring for and making improvements to the buildings, pathways and infrastructure that are used by staff, students and visitors.

This is a practical role, so previous experience and confidence using a variety of general-purpose tools is desirable. Training and direction will be provided within the Estates Team but a volunteer in this role will need to be proactive and be able to work as part of a volunteer team with minimal staff supervision. This is a perfect role for someone looking to gain practical experience and to build confidence as part of a busy team.

Key elements of the role:

- Open to long term residential volunteers only.

- Support the Estates team with maintenance and repair jobs around site in all weathers. These could include repairs to buildings, routine maintenance such as gutter clearance, monitoring CAT’s off-grid systems and general DIY tasks - Tasks will be uncomplicated and training will be provided.

- Work independently and part of a team on practical tasks.

- Preparation and clear down for practical short courses, Graduate School workshops and events.

- Organise and maintain tools and materials for use across site.

- Support CAT’s Estates team to care for CAT’s unique site.

We’re looking for people who:

- Would like to gain experience working as part of a practical maintenance team.

- Enjoy volunteering and working alongside others

- Have some practical experience and confidence using a variety of general-purpose tools and maintenance processes.

- Are comfortable living as part of a community

- Are proactive, keen to learn and self-motivated

- Are friendly, respectful and trustworthy

- Are reliable and enthusiastic about making a difference

- Have knowledge, interest or a willingness to learn about sustainability and CAT’s work

As a maintenance (handyman) volunteer at SeeAbility, you will support the facility in maintaining a safe, functional, and pleasant environment for people we support and our teams.

This position requires a reliable, skilled, and proactive individual who can carry out general maintenance tasks and assist with small repairs around the property. Your efforts will directly contribute to the well-being of the people we support and ensure that the home remains a comfortable and secure place for all.

Skills Required 

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs to the building and facilities, including but not limited to:  carpentry, painting, decorating and repairing

• Assist with the installation of furniture, fixtures, or equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards.

• Ensure that all tools and materials are properly maintained and stored safely.

• Help identify potential maintenance issues before they become problems.

• Report more complex repairs or safety concerns to the Facility Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.

• Support the care home during renovation or redecoration projects.

• Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to ensure the upkeep of the home.

• Would not be asked to carry out and electrical or plumping works

• Adhere to health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks are completed with care and in compliance with regulations

Training required for this role (all delivered vis e-learning)

• First Aid

All these courses will take approximately 40-60 minutes, apart from the First Aid which is 2 hours

What Makes This Role Different? 

This is a flexible, ad hoc, volunteer-led role that fits around your lifestyle and commitments. There are no set fundraising targets or fixed weekly hours. You decide how you'd like to support Make-A-Wish and how much time you can give. 

Fundraising is at the heart of this role and is driven by your own ideas, local connections, and enthusiasm. Whether it's organising a community event, engaging local businesses, securing donations, or encouraging others to get involved, you'll help generate the funds needed to grant wishes. We'll provide guidance, resources, and support along the way. 

How You'll Get Started 

Getting started as a Community Wish Maker is simple. Within your first few months, you'll choose a fundraising activity from our Community Fundraising Toolkit or create your own fundraising idea. 

You can: 

- Organise an activity independently 
- Fundraise with friends, family or colleagues 
- Team up with other local Community Wish Makers 
- Support an existing Make-A-Wish fundraising campaign or event 
- Whether it's a bake sale, quiz night, sponsored challenge, workplace fundraiser, school activity or local business partnership, you'll be helping raise the funds needed to grant more wishes

We'll provide resources, guidance and support to help you succeed.
