Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties
Membership Strategy & Structure
- Design and implement the CIC’s founding membership model, defining clear entry points, engagement pathways, and retention approaches rooted in participation rather than extraction.
- Shape intentional progression routes that support members to move from supporter → contributor → leader, ensuring growth in responsibility, agency, and influence over time.
- Align membership pathways with donor journeys, ambassador programmes, and volunteering routes, ensuring coherence across engagement, fundraising, and advocacy without conflating value with money.
Community Building
- Create a membership culture where people consistently feel seen, informed, included, and valued, regardless of role, status, or capacity.
- Establish sustainable rhythms of communication, updates, shared learning, and reflection that foster belonging, trust, and transparency.
- Enable decentralised participation by supporting member-led initiatives, peer leadership, and collective decision-making rather than top-down control.
- Act as a steward of healthy community dynamics, encouraging dialogue, accountability, and mutual care.
Systems & Data
- Oversee the setup and ongoing use of membership systems (e.g. CiviCRM or equivalent), ensuring they serve people rather than manage them.
- Track and interpret membership growth, engagement, and retention, using insight to strengthen participation and address disengagement early.
- Work collaboratively with Digital, Finance, and Social teams to maintain clean, accurate data and ensure ethical, transparent, and values-aligned data use.
Values & Culture
- Protect the integrity of the membership community by upholding CIC values in all structures, communications, and decisions.
- Identify and address misalignment early, clearly, and respectfully, prioritising restoration and learning over exclusion.
- Co-create and uphold community standards rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility—not surveillance or control.
Founding Responsibility
- Help design the future paid Membership Department, including roles, systems, and workflows that reflect collectivism and sustainability.
- Contribute to long-term organisational planning, ensuring membership is a pillar of resilience and shared ownership.

Providing a confidential non-judgemental listening ear to Residents and Staff. Supporting those wishing to develop their spiritual journey from a Christian perspective. The role will be based across one of our hostels in Watford, Borehamwood, Bishop's Stortford, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield or High Wycombe,
Activities include:
- Proactively engaging with Residents and staff to build safe relationships and trust
- Offering a ‘listening ear’ to all and giving emotional support
- Sensitively discerning when to offer prayer and support from a Christian perspective, and when to use faith based language
- Be inclusive and welcoming to people of all religious faiths and none, referring people to other faith communities as appropriate
- Working alongside support staff, volunteers & local agencies
- Maintaining records of support and feeding back concerns about Resident welfare to Staff/Line Manager.
- Attend regular volunteer team meetings
- Being proactive in seeking spiritual and emotional support for your own benefit as this is a challenging role.
Additional activities could include:
- Facilitating group work for example: Retreat Programme, Bible Study, prayer or Mental Health Support.
- Welcoming new Residents by phone or in person
- Leading or helping with Chaplaincy lead events: Easter/Christmas activities, Remembrance Services

Skills/Qualities/Experience:

We are looking to welcome a new Treasurer to our Board of Trustees.
To serve as one of Daybreak’s trustees is to play a fundamental role in enabling our charity to pursue its vision, mission, and values. Your contribution to discussions and decision-making at the highest level of our organization will ensure that we can continue to provide our services to those in need of our support.
In addition to the general duties of a Trustee, as Treasurer, your input will be critical to safeguarding the financial integrity and sustainability of our charity. You will ensure that appropriate financial measures are upheld and share your insights with the Board about the financial health of our organisation. Your experience will enable us to understand the obstacles we face and how we can navigate these challenges.
The role is more focused on strategy than detail. You will offer crucial guidance and support to management in developing a growth strategy that will allow Daybreak to reach more people and touch more lives.
There is no requirement for you to have experience as a Trustee. All we need is a willingness to use your skills and expertise to support Daybreak, a desire to make a difference for our service users, and a commitment to active participation in the role.
We would especially welcome applications from under-represented sections of society or those with experience of some of the issues facing our beneficiaries.
The time commitment involved is around thirty hours per year, though a wide range of opportunities to get involved in the Board’s work will be provided. Board meetings are usually held quarterly at our head office in Southampton, Hampshire or online.

Chatterbox Befrienders offer one-to-one telephone support and will call a client once a week offering companionship and a listening ear for an individual who might otherwise go unheard. Chatterbox volunteers befriend a variety of people including carers, socially isolated individuals who are struggling with loneliness, people with ill health and those that
have been bereaved.
THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF:

REQUIREMENTS OF A BEFRIENDER INCLUDE:
- Calling your client once a week for a chat of up to 45 minutes; this is a 26 week initial commitment, at the end of which each client’s needs are reviewed
- Completing an online call log record promptly after each phone call
- Ensuring immediate contact with the Chatterbox Coordinators if you feel that the client might be a risk to themselves or others
- Liaising with the Chatterbox Coordinator on a regular basis regarding the service, as well as discussing personal learning and development needs
- Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on befriending vulnerable adults

It Gets Better UK is at an exciting moment. Over the past six years, we've grown from a grassroots initiative into a charity reaching millions of LGBTQ+ young people across the UK. What is a Publicity Coordinator?
Publicity Coordinators work with other branch volunteers to develop a Publicity Plan to raise awareness of SSAFA that reaches potential beneficiaries, volunteers, and funders.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us. We need to recruit volunteers that reflect our local communities and raise money to fund our work. Could you spare a few hours a week to help us raise awareness?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about building awareness so beneficiaries know who we are and how they can benefit from and access support, promoting volunteer opportunities and encourage people to raise finds and celebrate success. This means that on occasions, you might need to be present at events. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can conduct the administration part of this role form home.
What would you be doing?
- Working with other branch volunteers to develop a publicity plan.
- Publicising SSAFA events.
- Work with Marketing/PR staff at central office to develop case studies of clients and volunteers and ensure that SSAFA branding and messaging are consistent.
- Develop and maintain networks with local press, TV and radio outlets through providing press releases, interviews, case studies etc.
- Working with the Digital Team at Central Office to develop and maintain a local on-line presence for the branch via a website and social media channels.
- Keeping a stock of SSAFA publicity materials and distributing them
- Liaising with PR staff at central office or on-call in the event of a PR/press situation.
- Supporting local and national campaigns to recruit new volunteers.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
- Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What is a Publicity Coordinator?
Publicity Coordinators work with other branch volunteers to develop a Publicity Plan to raise awareness of SSAFA that reaches potential beneficiaries, volunteers, and funders.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us. We need to recruit volunteers that reflect our local communities and raise money to fund our work. Could you spare a few hours a week to help us raise awareness?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about building awareness so beneficiaries know who we are and how they can benefit from and access support, promoting volunteer opportunities and encourage people to raise finds and celebrate success. This means that on occasions, you might need to be present at events. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can conduct the administration part of this role form home.
What would you be doing?
- Working with other branch volunteers to develop a publicity plan.
- Publicising SSAFA events.
- Work with Marketing/PR staff at central office to develop case studies of clients and volunteers and ensure that SSAFA branding and messaging are consistent.
- Develop and maintain networks with local press, TV and radio outlets through providing press releases, interviews, case studies etc.
- Working with the Digital Team at Central Office to develop and maintain a local on-line presence for the branch via a website and social media channels.
- Keeping a stock of SSAFA publicity materials and distributing them
- Liaising with PR staff at central office or on-call in the event of a PR/press situation.
- Supporting local and national campaigns to recruit new volunteers.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
- Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

CEO Mentor and Constructive Friend to the Managing Executive
- Provide a supportive, confidential space for the CEO as a sounding board and constructive friend.
- Build a strong working relationship with the CEO to maintain an overview of SHF’s affairs, to support as necessary the management of sensitive, complex or contentious issues and, where appropriate, provide constructive challenge to the CEO.
- Build a strong working relationship with the executive, offering constructive advice and support whilst maintaining the boundary between the operational decisionmaking of the executive and governance oversight of the Board.
- Lead the annual appraisal for the CEO in line with SHF’s appraisal process and in consultation with other trustees. Ensure that any identified professional development needs are put in place.
Safeguarding Ensure that:
- A Safeguarding Policy and Procedure is in place, is reviewed as least annually and is available to and understood/applied by staff.
- A culture of safeguarding is championed, where wellbeing and psychological safety is prioritised and staff, volunteers and people with lived experience can raise concerns without fear of judgement or reprisal.
- There is a staff Code of Conduct and policies such as Speaking Out (formally Whistleblowing) and Safer Recruitment are in place.
- Safeguarding concerns are managed effectively; there are systems in place for its management; safeguarding resources including training; a DSL is appointed whose role is stated in their job description.
- Regular feedback on safeguarding activity is received (such as gaps, threats, risks), oversee a risk register and the remedial actions required and the track progress.
- Chair of Trustees undertakes enquiries in the event of an allegation being made against the CEO
- Compliance with the Charity Commission serious incident notification requirements, and other bodies such as regulators, commissioners, grant makers, and insurance companies
