We are Social Link! An established and person-centred charity based in High Wycombe and Aylesbury providing a range of services for adults with learning disabilities, enabling them to meet new people, make new friends, develop skills for independence and enjoy stimulating activities. Social Link are experiencing growth in the demand for their services due to the shortage of provisions for adults aged over 18 years living in the local area. We work with approximately 170 individuals and had an income of £536k in the 2024/25 financial year, just over 19% increase on the previous year. Due to our growth we are seeking a new Board member bringing new skills to contribute to our future success.
Our Board members are key to guiding, directing and safeguarding Social Link as a responsible and forward-thinking charity. We would like to increase the size of our current board to ensure that we have the necessary skills in-house for stability and responsiveness.
Meetings held at Social Link, YouthSpace, Desborough Street, High Wycombe, HP11 2RA, at other local venues and on via Zoom online conferencing. Fundraising events held at various locations across South Bucks.
Main tasks:
· To ensure that the charity and its representatives function within the law and in line with the Social Link policies.
· To maintain financial sustainability.
· Continually striving for best practice in governance that adds to client and public confidence and trust in the charity.
· To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.

Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure is a small, friendly charity based in Southwark, providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. About Hot Seats
Hot Seats is a structured group role play programme created in 2016. Over 5,000 participants have taken part across 300+ groups in prisons, probation services, community sentences and residential and community recovery settings.
Hot Seat certified facilitators use group role plays to assign roles to our inner dialogue. There are six Hot Seats built around six pre-identified themes. Facilitators apply a unique anonymity protocol that means all role plays are done using characters. No participants reveal any personal stories or history. This allows participants to explore real issues — such as addiction, offending behaviour, family breakdown and recovery — without the work becoming emotionally charged or triggering. This makes it safe, accessible and effective in settings where trust can be hard to build.
Host organisations subscribe to Hot Seats and nominate a staff member or volunteer to become certified to deliver groups. Both the facilitators and hosts receive full back office support from Hot Seats. Facilitators need not have any specific experience as full training is provided. All that is required is a desire to help affect positive change for participants, a space big enough to accommodate 7–12 people and a weekly two-hour gap on a timetable of activities.

We have an elderly client in Luton, LU1 who would like someone to visit her at home once a week, or perhaps fortnighly with a phone call in between visits. She moved to Luton from Scotland many years ago and spends most of her days alone at home which understandably gets her down. She has a supportive daughter who works full time and a friend who drops by when she can.
As her befriender, you will provide companionship: friendly conversation and a non-judgemental listen ear, to help make her day a little brighter. Your gift of time, and your companionship will help to break the monotomy of sitting alone at home and will give her something to look forward to. Meetings will be in her flat, or in the communal garden when the weather allows.
You need to be reliable, friendly and caring,English speaking and a good listener for easy conversations. You should also be able to commit to befriending for at least 6 months. Its worth noting that most of our volunteers stay involved for longer, only because they enjoy what they do.
Befriending is a very easy way to help someone who is struggling and can be very rewarding, in fact you might both look forward to your meetings . It can also provide a great opportunity to gain practical experience of working with older adults in the community for anyone who is considering social or care work as a career.
We provide training before you start and ongoing support once you are matched, we also reimburse expenses for travel and refreshments. Two references are required and an enhanced DBS check will be processed.

Loneliness and isolation can have devastating effects on a person’s mental and physical health. We are a registered charity providing a pathway of support to alleviate the hurt and distress, and the impact on mental and physical health, caused by loneliness and social isolation.
We are seeking Volunteer Drivers, to provide transport in their own vehicle, bringing Friends (people who use our services) to and returning them home from an Archway supportive social group. Occasionally we organise Archway Fundraising activities or events where may be asked to provide transport to an Archway Fundraising activity or event. Some Archway Friends (people who use our services) are unable to attend a supportive social group independently, mainly due to physical barriers to public transport. Transport delivered by volunteers enables Friends to access the supportive social group, in turn alleviating loneliness. The groups may be the only opportunity for Friends to meet with others. Each Friend is invited to one group per month either in Oxford or Abingdon so transport volunteers usually offer one trip per month or more if they like.
We ask volunteers to think of this as a longer term volunteer role due to the training and time we take in order to give our volunteers, and Friends, the very best service. You will also need to consider occasional time spent in training for your role and for continuous development.
For all our roles:

Enhanced DBS checks for working with vulnerable adults (formerly called criminal records bureau checks) which we will organise (no cost to this) and two references are required.
