Shop volunteering helps fight the housing emergency by raising vital funds that enable Shelter to provide advice and support for people who are experiencing bad housing and homelessness, as well as powering us to campaign for change.

Our Associate Trustee Induction Model

We recognise that becoming a trustee is a significant responsibility and are committed to supporting new Trustees to succeed.

All new Trustees therefore begin in an Associate Trustee role as part of a structured and supportive induction process. This allows individuals to gain insight and confidence before taking on full legal responsibilities.

As an Associate Trustee, you will:

· Attend Board and Committee meetings in a non-voting capacity

· Receive a structured induction covering governance, legal duties, strategy, finance and our services

· Be paired with an experienced Trustee buddy for mentoring and support

· Have time to understand the charity, its culture and expectations of the role

Following this induction period, Associate Trustees will be invited to take up full trustee responsibilities, subject to mutual agreement.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

Grant Writer

Youth Sustainability Forum is seeking a skilled Grant Writer to support our mission to empower young people in Zambia to lead solutions on mental health, climate action, and civic participation. The role will focus on identifying funding opportunities and developing compelling grant proposals to support our programs, including the Youth SDG Summit—Zambia’s largest youth gathering focused on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The volunteer will work closely with our team to translate our impact, vision, and program outcomes into clear, persuasive funding proposals for foundations, development partners, and corporate funders. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to position social impact work strategically and enjoys turning ideas and data into strong narratives that unlock funding.

Through this contribution, you will directly support initiatives that equip and connect young people across Zambia to drive sustainable change, helping expand programs that reach thousands of youth and strengthen the national youth development ecosystem.
