Read Easy UK provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, delivered through a dedicated network of local volunteer groups. Across the country, our volunteers are helping adults gain the skills and confidence to read, opening the door to new opportunities in work, family life and everyday independence.

As the Team Leader you are responsible for the proper and effective direction of your local group. This role will appeal to 
someone with enthusiasm and energy who will enjoy managing a team of diverse volunteers. Ideally, the Team Leader will remain in this role for at least two years.

You will be provided with a full induction and training, a Management Team Handbook and all the policies, and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, as well as support from your local group. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional and national forums which create opportunity for you to network with volunteers from other groups.

What you will be doing
● Be a visible ambassador for your group, building meaningful relationships with stakeholders and representing Read Easy with pride.
● Champion the reputation of your group and Read Easy UK, helping everyone uphold the organisation’s values.
● Leading your group to develop strategically, so that it functions effectively in delivering reading coaching to as many people as possible.
● Inspiring and supporting team members, helping them thrive and enjoy the roles they love and managing succession planning for the group.
● Leading the Management Team in setting goals and planning activities
● Delegating projects to your Deputy Leader, such as setting up a new hub or developing remote coaching for your group, to reach even more people eager to learn to read.
● Ensuring that everyday tasks are delegated and effectively completed so that all on the Management Team are able to contribute to the success of Read Easy locally.
● Providing encouragement and support to Hub Leaders to help hubs grow and succeed.
● Leading meetings and setting agendas.
● Playing a vital role in ensuring the group meets its Constitution and Affiliation requirements, and that the guidance from Read Easy provided to keep things running smoothly is followed
● Liaising with other Team Leaders to discuss issues and share best practice
● Building strong relationships with your Read Easy UK Regional Adviser.

What You’ll Do

As IT & Digital Lead, you will:

• Set up and configure Office 365, including emails, SharePoint and user accounts.

• Implement and maintain our cloud-based CRM and Caseload Management Systems.

• Configure laptops, tablets and phones for SUNSHINE Charity use only.

• Ensure all devices and data are secure, protected and compliant.

• Create simple digital processes that make volunteering easier.

• Provide IT/Digital support to volunteers when needed.

• Lead or support induction sessions to help volunteers understand:

  • How our digital systems work

  • How to use them confidently

  • Why they matter for safety, connection and good practice

• Work closely with the Safeguarding & Compliance Lead to ensure digital safety and GDPR alignment

Key Responsibilities

Programme Details

This role is offered as an unpaid volunteer placement within the Quilombo UK Professional Development Programme. The is commitment 12 hours per week (flexible across Monday to Friday) over a 16-week period to get the most out of the experience.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

We are looking for volunteers to act as Sighted Guides at our Annual Conference on the 19th September at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre. Sighted Guiding is a simple and effective way of supporting blind and partially sighted attendees to move safely and confidently throughout the day.

As a Sighted Guide, you may be asked to:

• Meet and welcome attendees on arrival.
• Guide attendees between the train station and the conference venue.
• Guide individuals between conference rooms, refreshment areas, lunch areas, and other facilities.
• Assist attendees with fetching food and drinks during breaks and lunch.
• Provide information about the venue layout and surroundings.
• Support attendees to ensure they have a positive, inclusive, and accessible conference experience.

No previous experience is required, and guidance will be provided before the event. By volunteering, you will play an important role in helping all delegates participate fully and enjoy the conference.

Please note: Lunch will be provided for all volunteers and reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

Support young people to develop practical cooking and baking skills through fun, engaging, and educational sessions. Volunteers will assist staff with preparing activities, encouraging participation, promoting kitchen safety, and helping young people build confidence through food preparation and cooking.

What you will contribute

Administer holistic patient care to assigned patients and expect to care for both adults and children on a 20 bed open ward

Employ recent surgical experience in providing pre- and post-operative care to patients receiving maxillofacial, reconstructive plastic, general, obstetric fistula repair, gynecological or orthopedic surgery. Experience in one of these surgical specialties preferred

Partner with local Day Crew translators to provide culturally sensitive and compassionate care to patients

Coordinate patient care with the specialty Team Leaders, Charge Nurses, Hospitalist Physicians and Surgeons

For This Role, You Will Need

Successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding program will be required for commitments of 12 months or more

Registered Nurse with active license in home country; a minimum two years’ experience needed after licensure

Recent acute inpatient surgical/medical/Emergency Room experience of at least two years full-time or three years part-time in the past 5 years AND at the point of application can show working 30 hours or more per week in any of these clinical areas within the past 12 months

Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) optional

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with fluency in English

An ability to effectively work with others in a cross-cultural environment

From sorting, steaming, and pricing donations to spotting hidden gems, you'll roll up your sleeves in the backroom and assist on the shop floor. This role will offer the opportunity to become part of the volunteer team at the Warner Textile Archive to develop practical experience in collections management working with the library and reference collection held by the Warner Textile Archive. The collection includes books, periodicals, and theses on art, history and design. This opportunity is suitable for volunteers as well as students looking to complete placements or work experience as part of their studies.

Role Description

• Catalogue at item level, following data input policies, on collections management system CollectionsIndex+ to support improved access to the library and reference collection. 

• Cross check information on Collections Index + with index cards to include all relevant historic information.

• Work alongside the Archive team and experienced volunteers to support the Archive’s daily work, including conservation and research support.

• There is an opportunity to create a short article and related social media content about your experience of working with the collection.

Further Information

Full training and support will be given on all aspects of the role. No previous experience necessary. 

We are able to facilitate a flexible work schedule based on the individual’s existing responsibilities. For a student placement, we require a minimum of 10 days to provide meaningful work experience.

Some online training on cataloguing, the history of Warner & Sons, and collections care will be required prior to the student’s start date.

The role is not remote and will require travel to Warner Textile Archive, Silks Way, Braintree, Essex, CM7 3GB. We have a travel bursary of up to £50 per day which is able to offer support with travel costs and £5 per day for subsistence.

Computer facilities will be provided on-site.

About the Warner Textile Archive

The Warner Textile Archive is a significant collection of design, business, economic and social history of textile manufacturing firm Warner & Sons, based in Braintree between the dates of 1870 – 2001. The Warner Textile Archive is the largest collection of an individual textile manufacturer available in the public domain in the United Kingdom. We hold over 100,000 administrative records, paper designs, trial samples, manufacturing equipment and textiles of Warner & Sons, their predecessors and successors, illustrating how furnishing textile manufacturing changed over more than 150 years. 

Essential Skills and Knowledge Required

• Excellent Microsoft Office software skills and general computer literacy, with the enthusiasm to learn new systems.

• Must be dedicated to working to a meticulous attention to detail in regards to accurate data inputting, spelling and grammar.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the willingness to work with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers of different ages and backgrounds.

• Must be able to follow clear instructions and ask questions when unsure.

• This position requires moving and lifting large items.

A bit more information about this role and the team

Pembrokeshire is a new branch, is currently be focused on neutering domestic and feral cats, and fundraising. The new Branch Team Leader will be well supported to recruit more volunteers and gradually expand the ways we can help cats in Pembrokeshire, including rehoming. 

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.
