Coordinator Volunteer - Read Easy Leeds

Read Easy Leeds is a local charity that provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading. As part of the Read Easy UK network, we help adults improve their reading skills, confidence and opportunities in life. We are looking to expand our work and are seeking new Coordinators to join our friendly team.

This voluntary position would be ideal for someone with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, alongside excellent people skills and a friendly, caring nature. If you enjoy helping others and finding practical solutions, this could be the perfect role for you.

Being a Coordinator is a vital and rewarding role within the Read Easy Leeds team. You will meet adults who want to learn to read and interview volunteer Reading Coaches. You will then pair Readers with Coaches and provide ongoing support, alongside our Literacy Specialist, checking in regularly to ensure that both Reader and Coach are progressing well. You will play an important role in helping the group continue to thrive and grow.

You do not need previous experience, and you do not need to have volunteered as a Reading Coach first. Full training and support will be provided by Read Easy UK, and you will work alongside an enthusiastic and supportive team.

The role is flexible and can largely be carried out from home. However, you will need to make occasional visits to reading pairs at venues across Leeds and attend occasional in-person meetings.

You can choose your own hours and the number of reading pairs you support. Most Coordinators spend around 3 to 5 hours per week in the role. Some daytime and evening availability is essential. To get the most from the role, we ask Coordinators to commit to supporting Read Easy Leeds for at least one year.

Please be aware that reading sessions take place at venues across Leeds, mainly libraries and community centres. As the role occasionally involves visiting reading pairs to provide support, you will need to be based in or near Leeds and able to travel across the city when required.

An average day might see you talking to students in a camp to tell them about a new class, or supporting the writing of a grant proposal. Tasks could loosely fall within 4 key areas:

Programmes

• Supporting programme coordinators in maintaining the day to day running of their activities with the Youth or Adult Education Programmes

• Supporting our children’s teachers or workshop facilitators in the planning or delivery of classes or excursions outside of camps

• Communicating key messages about our programmes to our students in camps

Admin, Finance & Logistics

• Supporting our management team in liaising with external partners

• Maintaining organisation-wide financial processes

• Coordinating the arrival and housing of incoming team members

Grants & Partnerships

• Supporting in the identification of relevant grants

• Supporting in grant writing activities

 Communications & Fundraising

• Contributing to the written/visual content of Second Tree’s social media output

At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages.

Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident

Time expectation

A bit more information about this role and the team

Cats Protection Pembrokeshire is a new branch and was formed in 2025. There are two committee members and a small team of volunteers, currently focusing on neutering and fundraising.

We are looking for someone with strong organisational skills and plenty of enthusiasm to support the growth of the branch and make life better for cats in Pembrokeshire.

The role is flexible, with no fixed days or times for volunteering - most of our Branch Team Leaders prefer to spread their volunteering over a few days each week to keep in touch with the branch activity. However we do ask that you attend committee meetings, normally held once a month online via MS Teams.

IRMO works to enable the development, agency, and participation of Latin Americans and other Spanish and Portuguese speakers, by responding to both immediate needs and structural inequalities. About our Education, Training and Employment Programme

Our comprehensive Education, Training and Employment (ETE) programme runs various activities to improve our beneficiaries' social and cultural integration in the UK. These activities include 12-week English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses for adults and online conversation classes. 

We also deliver one-to-one employment support, mentoring, vocational training, and workshops on a range of topics to support the Latin American community in navigating the UK system. We are looking for a motivated and organised volunteer to support the ETE Programme Assistant in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the programme. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in administration, programme coordination, and community services.

The volunteer will play a key role in helping the ETE team stay organised, efficient, and responsive to the needs of service users and staff. This role supports the ETE Programme Assistant in delivering high-quality services, contributing to the overall impact and effectiveness of the programme.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Assist with general day-to-day administrative tasks to support the organisation of ESOL classes, level assessments and events

• Communicate with service users, including responding to and monitoring general enquiries via WhatsApp and email

• Send reminder messages for classes, assessments, or events

• Support with data entry as well as managing and updating databases, including attendance registers and service user contact information

• Support outreach activities, including distributing flyers, posters and informative material both online via social media and in-person to key community hubs such as libraries, shops, cafés and churches

• Assist with updating, uploading and printing materials related to ETE activities

• Help with any other tasks requested by the ETE Programme Assistant

We are looking for

• Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken); knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage

• A flexible and enthusiastic person who is confident in working in a multicultural and multilingual environment

• Good IT skills, including in using Microsoft and Google suite packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases

• Good interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail

• A caring, sensitive and non-judgemental manner

• Knowledge of how to deal with sensitive and confidential information

• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to CRM systems

• Good organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, without constant supervision 

• Interest in education, employment support, or community work

• Understanding of issues facing Latin American migrants in the UK 

Additional requirements

• Two references from current/previous employers

• Basic DBS Check (completed through IRMO)

• Safeguarding Level 1 certificate (completed through IRMO)

• One month trial period
