Job description

WANTED: THE FOUNDATION LEAD

ROLE: CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

LOCATION: HYBRID / LONDON

GOVERNANCE: RADICAL TRANSPARENCY. START-UP SPEED.

THE MISSION

URBAN YOUTH is at the launchpad. We have the vision, the brand, and the squad—now we need the anchor. We are looking for an experienced Trustee to step into the role of Chair to build, lead, and galvanise our first-ever Board.

You aren't just chairing a meeting; you are architecting the governance of a movement designed to outpace the status quo.

THE GIG

  • The Board Build: Leading the recruitment and induction of our initial Trustee squad (Finance, Law, Safeguarding, etc.).

  • The Launch Support: Partnering with the Founder and Managing Director to ensure our London-wide launch is legally watertight and strategically sound.

  • The Culture Setter: Establishing a board culture that matches our "Black & White" ethos—efficient, high-contrast, and focused on impact over optics.

  • The Compass: Providing the high-level oversight and "critical friend" support needed to navigate the complexities of a start-up charity in the urban sector.

ABOUT YOU

  • The Veteran: You have prior experience as a Trustee (Chair experience is a bonus, but a deep understanding of board dynamics is essential).

  • The Start-Up Spirit: You understand the "all hands on deck" nature of a launch. You know how to build systems from scratch rather than just maintaining them.

  • The Networker: You have the professional standing to represent URBAN YOUTH to regulators, major donors, and London’s civic leaders.

  • The Urban Ally: You are deeply committed to dismantling the postcode lottery. You understand that unconventional problems require unconventional leadership.

THE COMMITMENT

This is a strategic leadership role. We anticipate monthly board meetings during the initial 6-month launch phase, moving to quarterly sessions thereafter. Outside of meetings, you will provide ad-hoc mentorship to the Founder.

THE PERKS

  • A Blank Canvas: The rare opportunity to shape the governance and culture of a brand-new charity from day one.

  • Civic Legacy: Play a central role in a project that is scaling to meet the urgent needs of young Londoners.

  • Strategic Influence: Your experience will be the scaffolding that allows the movement to grow safely and rapidly.

HOW TO APPLY

We value your time and your expertise. Let's start with a conversation.

Reply with:

  1. The Track Record: A brief summary of your Trustee/Board experience.

  2. The Vision: In three sentences, what does "effective governance" look like for a fast-moving, agile start-up charity?

  3. The "Why": Why is now the right time for you to lead the URBAN YOUTH board?

URBAN YOUTH. LEAD THE MOVEMENT. CHANGE THE FUTURE!!!
