As a Programme Support Volunteer, you’ll help with the coordination and delivery of our community projects and activities. You’ll assist with planning, preparation, data collection and general support across our programmes to ensure everything runs efficiently and participants have a positive experience.

This is a varied and rewarding role for anyone who enjoys helping things run well and being part of a supportive, community-focused team.

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. works with survivors, vulnerable adults, young people, and lived-experience storytellers. Content is not neutral here. It carries emotional, legal, and safeguarding weight.
The Content Approval & Safeguarding Coordinator exists to ensure that nothing goes live unless it is safe, ethical, compliant, and aligned with survivor-centred practice.
This role is a gatekeeper role, not a rubber stamp.
 
Purpose of the Role
This role sits between content creation and public release.
Its purpose is to:

• Protect survivors
• Protect the organisation
• Protect the community
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, consent, and data protection standards

This role ensures that growth never comes at the cost of safety.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential Experience

• Experience in safeguarding-focused roles where risk assessment, ethical judgement, and protection of vulnerable individuals are central.
• Experience in content moderation, editorial review, compliance, or approval processes involving sensitive or high-impact material.
• Experience working within survivor-led, trauma-informed, or community-based organisations.
• Experience in social care, youth work, community work, or similar environments involving safeguarding responsibilities.
• Experience assessing risk, balancing impact versus harm, and making defensible approval decisions.

Essential Skills

• Strong operational judgement and ability to make clear, consistent decisions under safeguarding and ethical frameworks.
• Excellent attention to detail, particularly around consent, language, framing, and contextual risk.
• Strong written communication skills for documenting decisions, feedback, and escalation summaries.
• Ability to work collaboratively with content, moderation, safeguarding, and campaign teams.
• Confidence following structured protocols and escalating concerns without delay when thresholds are met

Training & Qualifications

• Formal safeguarding training is essential.
• Ongoing training and guidance will be provided to support continuous learning and alignment with CIC standards.

Note: Lived experience alone is not sufficient for this role; demonstrated operational judgement and safeguarding competence are required.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Review all content prior to publication to identify safeguarding risks, consent clarity, trauma exposure, and inappropriate language or framing.
• Apply content approval protocols consistently, ensuring decisions are aligned with safeguarding, ethical, and organisational standards.
• Ensure survivor testimony and sensitive content comply with informed consent requirements, usage agreements, and platform-appropriate boundaries.
• Assess whether content is suitable for public release, restricted distribution, amendment, or rejection based on risk and impact.
• Liaise closely with key stakeholders to ensure joined-up decision-making, including the Content Librarian / Asset Manager, Community Moderation team, Safeguarding Officer, and campaign leads.
• Maintain clear and auditable records of content approvals, rejections, required amendments, and final outcomes.
• Flag and escalate safeguarding concerns, boundary breaches, and high-risk material promptly in line with CIC escalation pathways.
• Support the development, refinement, and documentation of content approval frameworks and trauma-informed content guidelines.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring risks, gaps in guidance, or training needs related to content safety.

This role is not suitable if you:

• Avoid difficult decisions
• Prefer creative freedom over boundaries
• Are uncomfortable challenging others
• Want fast visibility or public-facing credit
• Are seeking immediate paid employment

We are seeking an expert, creative Volunteer Digital and Social Media Lead. You will help us promote our programmes supporting people in prison and young people at risk of entering the justice system, as well as our Community Bike Shop, which funds and strengthens this work.

What you’ll do:

• Design and schedule engaging posts, stories, and reels across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more to grow our audience.

• Develop strategies for viral campaigns and collaborations to boost awareness and donations and share your expertise with our team.

• Analyse metrics (engagement, reach, growth) and refine tactics based on what resonates.

• Create eye-catching visuals using tools like Canva.

• Update our website as required and make suggestions for improvements.

• Work with our expert Trustee to consider how we can use online retail platforms to sell our refurbished bikes.

What we’ll provide:

· Creative freedom within agreed priorities and tone of voice.

· Access to the right tools plus shared photos, stories and impact stats.

· A named contact, light-touch sign-off, and occasional check-ins to remove blockers.

Time commitment: we’ll agree a realistic scope with the right volunteer based on their availability.

About us

UpCycle, works with individuals in prisons and young people at risk in marginalised communities.  We use bicycle maintenance workshops to help build life skills, enhance employability, prevent offending and reoffending, and foster social reintegration.  We also offer lead rides, bike fit-it sessions and other ways to engage with vulnerable people.

In prisons

· We delivered 956 un-refurbished bikes and received back 768 refurbished bikes across eight prisons and one Young Offenders Institution, training over 238 individuals.

In the Community

· Over 1034 bikes were donated to our Community Bike Shop, of those we refurbished and distributed more than 612 to underserved communities locally and overseas.

· Workshops in Bradford engaged 361 participants in diverse cycling-related activities across the area.

· "Bike to the Future" and other initiatives reached 220 young people with more complex needs.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

We are looking for friendly volunteers to help our shop management team assist customers and donors, and ensure the shop is tidy and well stocked. Whether you have a passion for fashion and love chatting to customers, or you would prefer to be behind the scenes in our stockroom, your help could make a difference in your local community.

To assist the Shop Manger in the running of an Age UK East Sussex Charity Shop with a focus on serving customers, driving sales and store presentation.

Volunteering in the shop

Our Eltham Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Skills and experiences we seek

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need any retail or shop experience as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and to follow our policies as well as be an excellent representative for Save the Children.

We know that our shop teams are stronger when they are inclusive and representative of their communities. Everybody can make a real difference. People come to us for all sorts of reasons, from all backgrounds, and we will do what we can to find a role that works for you.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

Educational partnerships and community developers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for a volunteer to lead partnership development and community outreach efforts for East London Waterworks Park. This role focuses on building and nurturing relationships with learning bodies to increase the opportunity for partnership opportunities. 

The role would include:

• Researching and identifying new opportunities for environmental learning initiatives
• Building and nurturing relationships with schools, education bodies, and nonprofit organizations
• Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

We're looking for people to lead on these projects and facilitate the direction of the learning working group.

The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

We welcome individuals with experience in outreach, partnership building, education, or nonprofit engagement. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are key. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.

Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park. 

You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. By volunteering in this role, you will help shape the future of East London Waterworks Park as a community-led environmental learning space. This will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.
