About Us

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity based in Wolverhampton. We support, empower, and advocate for women and children facing crisis or challenging circumstances.

Our aim is to actively encourage women to become self-reliant by helping them identify their needs, make informed choices, and create their own solutions.

The Wolverhampton Baby Bank, our flagship service, provides essential items and support to families with children aged 0–3. Through donated essentials and community engagement, we offer:

• Nappies, wipes, clothing, toys, and bedding

• Support services for new parents, including drop-in groups

• Befriending support for pregnant women and new mothers

• Referrals and connections to additional community services

As WFRC stabilises and restructures following recent operational challenges, we are seeking a strong, structured, and compassionate Baby Bank Manager to lead the service forward.

The Role

The Baby Bank Manager will lead the operational delivery and structured rebuild of WFRC’s flagship Baby Bank service.

This is a critical leadership role combining operational management, volunteer coordination, stock oversight, client support, compliance, and reporting.

WFRC operates as a not-for-profit organisation but must function with business-level accountability and sustainability. The successful candidate will embed systems and processes that ensure continuity beyond individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Daily Operations

• Help organise baby items and prepare packs for families

• Assist with appointments and referrals

• Create a warm and welcoming environment

Volunteer & Team Support

• Work alongside other volunteers

• Help keep the rota organised

• Attend occasional team meetings

Stock & Organisation

• Sort and organise donated items

• Keep storage areas tidy and safe

• Help monitor stock levels

Administration

• Keep simple digital records up to date

• Support basic reporting and documentation

Time Commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to:

• Up to 3 days per week

• Around 4 hours per day

• Minimum 12 hours per week

We review placements after 6 weeks to ensure the role is a good fit for everyone.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Experience in service coordination, charity, or community services but not required

• Experience managing volunteers or small teams

• Strong administrative and record-keeping skills

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Support the work of St John Ambulance in your community by volunteering as a Community Volunteer, an exciting new role which is designed to revamp how volunteering looks in the modern world; flexible, innovative and is open for all.

Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. As a Community Volunteer there is a wide range of impacts that you could have. You could contribute to raising first aid awareness in your community. You may also be involved in fundraising activity to support the work of St John. Delivering presentations to local groups and organisations, as well as finding opportunities to expand the reach of St John. You could also impact St John people by contributing to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Expected time commitment At least 24 hours per year. What you could be involved in (responsibilities) Sharing St John, educating community groups about the work of St John Organising or supporting fundraising activity Sharing a skill, providing first aid awareness to community groups in your local network Supporting St John, helping with the hospitality, administration and wellbeing of other volunteers Representing St John Ambulance positively and in line with our HEART values. Role – Community Engagement Volunteer

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

A varied programme of awareness raising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role 

• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep

clients, their families safe and personal information safe.

• Access to a range of e-learning courses and marketing materials.

• Access to support from across SSAFA.

• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.

• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Confident people who feel happy to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and

SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.

• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely.

• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.

Why we want you

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.

What you will be doing

• Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
• Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.
• Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
