We are seeking to appoint a volunteer Van Driver, who would work alongside the member of staff responsible for our established Food Bank.  They will also be undertaking other tasks related to the Food Bank, e.g. Putting together food parcels and stock rotation.

Maidstone Homeless Care is a well-established charity supporting homeless and vulnerable people in the Maidstone area . We run an active day centre, busy food bank and a small residential unit supporting homeless people. 

The Day Centre and Food Bank are open every morning, Monday to Friday.  Cover will be required Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

(We provide lunch for our volunteers, so will contribute towards the cost of a volunteer's meal, should they bring their own, if what we are offering in the canteen isn't considered suitable; for example, a diet that's restricted for reasons of health, religion, or ethics).

About Us
As a sustainability charity, we take surplus food that's donated to us and redistribute it to people in need.
The front line initiatives we support include food banks, schools, community groups and charities who, in turn, help people who are disadvantaged by poverty.

Our vital work supports people experiencing extreme hardship and prevents perfectly good food going to landfill, where it would otherwise contribute to climate warming. 

We need helping hands in our busy warehouse to receive and catalogue supplies, to load and unload vans, and to prepare orders for delivery. This role is vital to the work of FareShare, ensuring that the food in our warehouse is correctly sorted, labelled and organised into orders placed by our charities and community groups.

Our volunteer opportunities are available Monday to Friday, for a whole or half day, with shifts between 8:30-am - 12:30pm and 12:30 - 4:30pm. Volunteers are typically involved for one day a week. We are flexible around the hours you can offer us.

What will I be doing?

Receiving, sorting, cataloguing and storing chilled and ambient surplus food in a warehouse, and preparing orders for delivery.

Ensuring food quality and safety by checking ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates.

Sorting and unpacking deliveries; categorising and recording food.

Assembling food orders placed by charities and community groups.

Maintaining health and safety and food hygiene standards. 

Helping with cleaning and other tasks identified by warehouse staff.

Person Specification: 
You must:

be reasonably physically fit to carry out tasks, including lifting and loading.

have a good command of English in order to understand and follow instructions and health and safety rules. 

have basic literacy and numeracy skills to record quantities and types of food donated.

be able to work in a manner that respects Health and Safety standards.

be happy to complete tasks independently according to instruction.

be positive, friendly and enthusiastic about tackling food waste and food poverty.

be reliable and able to commit to an agreed session/day.

We are located in our brand new depot at Maynard House, New Smithfield Market, Openshaw, Manchester M11 2WJ.

At Cats Protection we passionately believe that neutering cats before they can breed is an essential part of cat ownership and without neutering the UK’s cat population would quickly get out of control. Our neutering team lead volunteers help spread positive neutering messages and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. What can you expect to be doing?

• our neutering team lead volunteers support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported
• promoting and sharing the benefits of Cats Protection’s neutering schemes
• responding to neutering enquiries, from members of the public and the team of neutering volunteers, providing advice and guidance in line with Cats Protection policies
• completing relevant neutering paperwork and distributing neutering vouchers
• keeping electronic records, managing the group’s neutering budget, and utilising appropriate Cats Protection systems
• keeping the branch committee updated on branch neutering activity and budget
• ensuring cats and kittens are neutered in line with Cats Protection policies

Time expectation 

Our neutering team leader volunteers usually spend between five to 10 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

This role of for those that want to help St John Ambulance and it's initiatives within the network but do not want to undertake a clinical role.

This role is a supportive role that compliments our community iniatives by supporting our clinical team out on operational events, with community education and most importantly fundraising.

Following the selection process there will be interviews held over the weekend of 14th & 15th February. There will be a welcome event once the majority of the candidates will be through the system. This will be during the month of April on a Tuesday evening. Formal training for role will be arranged when the course is released for training if not done by Apr 2026

By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is recruiting six volunteers to sit on our new Advisory Council, which will support the work of the organisation by helping to guide our strategy and direction, develop new thinking around our grassroot activism, research, campaigning and advocacy work, and strengthen our solidarity networks, coalitions and allyships, especially with and amongst marginalised and racialised communities. 

The Advisory Council will complement our governing board (the Steering Committee). The aim is for the Council to take a broader, more long-term and strategic view of CAAT’s activities, provide fresh perspectives, and expand our networks. The Advisory Council will not have responsibility for financial, legal, or HR oversight of CAAT.

We are particularly warmly inviting those with lived experiences of international conflict and structural violence, and those involved in anti-militarist and intersecting social activism in collectives and movements. The difference you will make to cats and people

As a trap, neuter and return (TNR) lead volunteer you will make a vital contribution to maintaining a healthy population of feral and community cats and will help alleviate cat welfare and community problems caused by uncontrolled cat populations. You will lead a team of TNR volunteers in your local area, who in turn will help reduce the number of unwanted cats.

Volunteering in the shop

We are so excited to have reopened the St Andrews Shop with a wonderful new look! 

Our St Andrews Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Helping in our shops is a great way to help CHAS and, as well as helping us raise money to fund our vital services, you'll be part of a really great team of volunteers. You'll be meeting new people, using your skills or learning something new, and making sure our customers get a great welcome and all the assistance they need.

It's always great to see our volunteers chatting to customers and telling them about CHAS - and there's so much more to this role too: you could be sorting donations, getting stock ready for the shop floor, wielding a steamer or a duster, processing Gift Aid, operating the till (we will show you how), merchandising and displaying stock - you'll never have a dull moment.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift each week, which is about four hours (but we're also happy to chat about more flexible times). No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest please tell us, it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started.
