The Chair of Governors provides strategic leadership to the Governing Body of London Screen Academy, ensuring strong oversight of educational quality, safeguarding and long term sustainability.

The Chair also acts as an ambassador for LSA within the screen and creative industries, supporting advocacy, partnerships and fundraising activity where appropriate.

This is a voluntary leadership role involving four Governing Body meetings per year, regular contact with the Principal and engagement at key academy and Trust events.

As Chair, you will work in close partnership with the Principal and the CEO of the Trust to:

• Safeguard LSA’s vision and values

• Champion high standards in education, safeguarding and student outcomes

• Strengthen LSA’s influence within the screen and creative industries

• Support the academy’s growth, partnerships and long term financial resilience

Beyond governance, this role is outward facing. You will act as an ambassador for LSA, advocating for inclusive access to the screen industries and supporting communications and fundraising within the creative sector.

This is a strategic, visible leadership role at the intersection of education and industry.

Role Details

Location: Highbury, London

Term: Four Years

Time commitment:

• Four formal Governing Body meetings per year

• Regular meetings with the Principal between cycles

• Attendance at key academy events and showcases

• Occasional engagement with industry partners and fundraising activity

The Chair plays a visible leadership role and is expected to be accessible, well prepared and actively engaged in shaping LSA’s next phase of development.

Person Specification

We are seeking a Chair who brings:

• Senior leadership or board level experience

• Strong strategic judgement and the ability to hold others to account constructively

Deaf Role Models share their lived experience of deafness with deaf children and their families, showing what is possible. This volunteering will take place at different types of events and activities, either in-person or online. More than 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents who might know very little about deafness. Being able to meet deaf adults can give them a deeper understanding of the different choices and possibilities for their child.

About you

• Aged 18 years and over

• Lived experience of deafness – it doesn’t matter what level of deafness you have, or how you communicate

• Willing to share your personal experiences of deafness with a range of audiences including families of deaf children and young people in different community venues

• Prepared to answer questions that families and/or children may have about your experiences

What you will do

• You may talk about topics such as your family life, initial diagnosis, communication, education, interests and hobbies, career and challenges

• Some assignments may include additional tasks; for example, leading an ice breaker

• Create and adapt your talk to meet the needs of the audience or family

• Be a positive role model and present us in a positive way

• Be responsible for the quality of your volunteering and for yourself as part of a team

• Help families to think about the different choices and possibilities for their child, recognising that there isn’t going to be one ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ approach for all deaf children

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer Football Assistants to support our Football sessions on Mondays, 5.30-7pm in Balham.

Football coaching sessions are led by Fulham FC Kicks programme weekly, supported by CARAS volunteers to offer welcome to young people.

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

· Welcoming young people to the session;

· Helping young people to register for sessions;

· Join in and be role model for young refugees and asylum seekers;

· Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements;

Requirements:

Essential

· To be 18 years or older;

· To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds;

· Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English;

· The ability to volunteer on Monday evenings for a minimum of four months;

· Currently resident in the UK;

- A love of football, and wanting to encourage others to play.

Tasks & activities
