Your Role as a Mentor

Detailed description

We are looking for Volunteer Administrators for the following locations:

Broadwater Family Centre, Stevenage

Windmill Family Centre, Hemel Hempstead

Sopwell Family Centre, St Albans

Westfield & Littlebury Family Centre, Watford

The BECC Family Centre, Borehamwood

Main responsibilities

·Welcome families, visitors, and professionals to the Family Centre in a friendly and professional manner.

·Answer telephone calls and take messages accurately.

·Assist staff with administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, and preparing resources.

·Input data into systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

·Help maintain an organised and tidy reception and office space.

·Support the preparation of publicity materials, newsletters, and information displays.

·Signpost visitors to the appropriate staff member for further support.

·Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality, and health & safety policies at all times.

Skills / Abilities / Experience / Qualities

·Friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.

Role title: Collection volunteer Braehead Shopping Centre, Renfrewshire 

Time commitment: 2 - 4 hours a day

What we're looking for

We're looking for enthusiastic, creative and organised people to be an NSPCC Collection Volunteer in your local community. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our collection volunteers play a important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.

What you'll do

You'll be working together with the rest of the team to raise awareness and funds. you'll be collecting for the vital work the NSPCC does, engaging with the public- promoting a positive image for the NSPCC!

We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle.

• Distribute collection boxes to locations such as cafes, shops, bars, restaurants and small businesses in your local area
• Replace full boxes, counting and banking funds, liaising with your local community team and organising receipts and thank you cards for supporters
• Represent NSPCC in a professional manner
• Share news about our work in the local community and help promote fundraising events and initiatives

What you'll get

We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word about the NSPCC. You'll be given a designated point of contact and we'll cover reasonable mileage expenses. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children in your local area and across the UK.

Our Child and Family Support Team (CFST) provides counselling and therapeutic support to children, young people, and their families – including siblings, parents, grandparents, and carers. We’re looking for volunteer counsellors to join our dedicated team to help increase our reach, making sure everyone can receive the support they need in some of life’s toughest moments.

Please note, we cannot accept student counsellors on placement in this role.

Our busy Homework Club is part of our delivery of child and family support services, in order that low income and vulnerable families have improved access to services, employment opportunities and life chances.

Do you have some teaching or coaching exeperince either as a parent, classroom assistant or teacher? On Fridays afternoons from 3.30-5.30pm the Centre provides an after-school Homework club during term time. Children from three local primary schools, and a few from Year 7 attend the club.  Many come from families where English is a second language.

Volunteers sit on a table with 1 or 2 children and provide help with their homework, maths and English work mostly, and some reading.  Volunteers commit to one session a week on Friday (3.30 – 5.30pm). 

Our Mission

Each Person Matters: The Cardinal Hume Centre enables families, children and young people to overcome poverty and avoid homelessness.

What are we looking for?

• Ideally you have some experience in teaching, either professionally, voluntary or at home with your own children. 
• You are friendly, patient and can have rapport with children easily.
• Able to help with maths and English at primary school level. 

What is the time commitment?

• Ideally at least one academic term
• Fridays, 3.30 – 5.30pm at The Cardinal Hume Centre and we are trialing an outreach sessions at a local Library & Hotel on otger weekdays

How will you be supported?

• You will be supported by the Family Services staff team. 
• You will have access to wide range of e-learning topics.  Child safeguarding and fire safety awareness is mandatory for all new volunteers.
• You will be reimbursed for travel expenses.

Role title: Friends of Dunbartonshire

Location: Dunbartonshire

Time commitment: Flexible (at least 2-3 hrs a month)

Bright Futures UK is looking for passionate and knowledgeable Key Stage 3 Science tutors to provide educational support and a fun, safe learning environment for young people living with serious illnesses.

What will you be doing? 

Run tutoring sessions online to support a young person for one hour per week 

Offer subject area knowledge and expertise related to KS3 Science 

Help to combat social isolation through fun and engaging tutoring sessions.

This is an exciting time in the evolution of the organisation. As we prepare for our 50th anniversary in 2027, we are reflecting on our impact – past, present and future – while working towards a more comprehensive creative offer for young theatre-makers across Scotland.

Reaching the end of his tenure on the board, our outgoing Chair has been crucial to the company’s navigation of the most challenging times in our sector and the remodelling of the company. The new Chair will come into an organisation with a committed board and small industrious staff team with big ambitions.

Current priorities:

• Grow the artistic programme for the benefit of more young artists with different needs and aspirations across Scotland
• Amplify the company’s profile and increase awareness of the work and priorities of SYT now
• Broaden and deepen relationships with partners, allies and funders
• Secure additional resources to realise our ambitions

• Previous experience in a governance or leadership role in the charitable sector (previous experience as a Chair is not essential but knowledge and familiarity with charity governance requirements is essential)

Role of the Board

Board members are non-executive directors of the company and trustees of the charity. They have corporate and individual responsibilities under company law and charity law.

The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Scottish Youth Theatre, supporting the staff team to deliver on the company’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities of the Chair

Provide leadership to the board and chair board meetings

Work with fellow Trustees to ensure compliance with legal, financial and environmental requirements Maintain an overview of the board’s performance, appraising individual and collective performance Maintain an overview of the composition of the board in skills and diversity and to lead on refreshment and succession planning.

Supporting the CEO

Appoint the CEO, in conjunction with the board, and monitor their performance

Line manage and support the CEO and be a point of liaison 

Lead on appraisal of performance of the CEO

Time Commitment

Board members are required to attend four meetings per year plus the AGM which are usually held online via Zoom. Once a year we bring together the Board and full staff team for an in-person joint planning and review session. Supporting our young artists through attending performances is also appreciated.

There is one permanent sub-group of the Board for finance. Individual Board members may also be asked to bring their expertise to specific pieces of work or policy development and some are the identified leads for areas of policy e.g. safeguarding, fundraising, environment. 

The Chair of the Board acts as line manager to the CEO, maintaining regular contact to keep up to date with progress and offer support (on average one meeting per month and email correspondence).

All Directors may serve a maximum of three terms of office, each term being 3 years (9 years maximum).

The Independent Visitors programme provides every child and young person in care the offer of a regular befriender to provide consistent support, to listen to their thoughts and feelings, and to take part in a range of activities/trips together.

The Early Help Service is looking for volunteers who are passionate about supporting children in care, and can communicate effectively and confidently with young people.

This role involves:

• Attending an initial matching meeting with a young person
• Committing to 18 months of befriending with a child or young person
• Meeting a young person every 2-3 weeks
• Taking part in activities with a child or young person
• Acting in the best interests of a child or young person

We are currently recruiting for trainee or qualified therapist placements for our Express Plus arts therapy service. Express Plus offers creative, client-led therapy for children and young people aged 7–18 (or up to 25 where additional needs are present). The service runs during term-time only, with sessions held after school in Family Hubs located in the three most deprived wards of Westminster. We work within a community setting and place a strong emphasis on reflective, responsive practice.
