Quilombo UK is looking for an experienced Research Assistant, who would love to join a growing organisation.

The Research Assistant role offers a great opportunity for the right person who is looking to: 

• Gain experience in the Third Sector. 

• Develop their skills and management experience; or just simply 'give something back to their community'.

The role provides you with flexibility and autonomy at work. Where necessary, specific training will also be provided to help you develop and grow your skill set.

Main Responsibilities

• Since its creation, Quilombo UK has collected a great amount of information, evidence and items through projects, fundraisers, events etc.

• We are looking for a team member to find published materials related to Quilombo UK key objectives and interests, especially cultural and racial diversity, and stereotypes in UK communities. The materials include all types of evidence, articles, journals, newspaper columns, local and global news stories. 

• The researcher will help to collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, and also in exhibitions, workshops, and community events. 

• We are looking for a self-starter who can source, collect, and share relevant materials independently. You will also be working closely with our Professional Development Programme participants in relevant areas such as Marketing and PR.

• Provide written reports as and when required. To undertake additional duties as required for the role.

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

• You will need to have good written skills and be able to explain concepts and projects concisely and accurately. 

• You will be self-starting and willing to research the various projects that we have carried out and catalogue all the evidence collected.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.

Role Purpose

Quilombo UK is looking for a Graphic Designer to join the team. Quilombo UK is a not for profit social enterprise that challenges people to think differently and bridge gaps between communities, with the aim of building a culturally rich society, where differences are accepted and celebrated. As chosen among 160 other organizations to work in collaboration with the Home Office on the “Building a Stronger Britain together” project, you will be joining a team, which not only supports the community but also stands up to extremism in all of its forms.

Quilombo UK works in collaboration with QMC Capoeira School, giving you the chance to support QMC Capoeira which is one of the most awarded Capoeira Schools in UK (UK Coaching Awards, Gillette Sports Awards, Kingston Council Sports Awards).

Ideal candidates will use their passion to promote Quilombo UK and raise its profile, while attracting new members. They should create engaging and on-brand graphics for a variety of media.

Main Responsibilities

• Study design briefs and determine requirements

Are you interested in facilitating a peer support group for people who are struggling with their mental health? We are looking for passionate volunteers to facilitate a weekly online or face-to-face group, to discuss topics relating to mental health. We are hoping to find someone who has either ‘lived experience’ of mental health issues and is now at a positive place with their own recovery or someone who has good knowledge of mental health and looking to support others.

• Facilitating weekly peer support groups, covering topics related to mental health.
• Promote a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental atmosphere where all members feel valued and heard
• Encourage mutual support, active listening, and shared problem-solving within the group
• Manage group dynamics sensitively, ensuring discussions remain constructive and inclusive
• Collaborate with staff to monitor group wellbeing and escalate any concerns appropriately
• Assist in planning and preparing for each session, including topic prompts or themes if needed
• Maintain confidentiality in line with organisational policies and safeguarding standards.

As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in helping people in Havering know where to turn when they need urgent mental health support. You’ll be out and about in the community spreading the word about the Waltham Forest Beacon — chatting to local people, connecting with community centres, faith groups and local organisations, and sharing information through leaflets and posters. This is a great role for someone confident, friendly and passionate about making support more visible and accessible in the community.

• Promoting the Havering Crisis Café within the local community
• Visiting community centres, libraries, GP surgeries, faith settings and other local spaces
• Handing out leaflets and displaying posters

This role presents an opportunity to liaise with businesses and organisations in your local community to find and arrange suitable reading venues for your group. Reading venues are typically in local libraries, churches and other businesses and organisations that can provide places where there is at least one other person in the building, whilst also providing an element of confidentiality, they are never classroom settings.

What you will be doing

● Ensuring there are sufficient suitable venues for reading pairs, in line with the Venue and Lone Worker Policy.

● Managing the relationship between the venues and the group and source new venues as the group grows.

● Finding organisations and businesses willing to offer a room or suitable space on their premises for your reading pairs to use at certain times of the week when it is not in use.

● Ensuring that the premises are suitable for Read Easy by using the Venue Checklist.

● Reporting on the venues arranged to the Management Team to gain their approval.

● Keeping an up-to-date record of venues and regularly review venue arrangements.

● Supporting the Team in finding and booking other venues for Read Easy events.

We are volunteer led and manage 65+ volunteers across the country, most of them remoately. There are 10 different teams ranging from creative to business development. We are looking for up to 10 people to help with the coordination of feedback, delegation of tasks and assisting with running monthly meetings. We have a very diverse team of volunteers from all different culture, religons and disabilities.

Role Overview 

We’re looking for a creative Volunteer Causes & Impact Marketing Content Creator to help tell LoveBrum’s story, the stories of the causes we support and the impact we’re creating.

Whether you’re looking to build your portfolio, gain hands-on experience in content marketing and social media, or simply want to use your skills to support a charity you believe in, this flexible volunteer role is a fantastic opportunity. You’ll create content that that inspires people to get involved, demonstrate the impact of our work at LoveBrum, and helps more Birmingham causes get the support they deserve. 

Along the way, you’ll build real marketing experience, work alongside a passionate team, and play a key role in helping LoveBrum grow its reach and impact. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist in creating engaging content for our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.) 

• Support with capturing photograph and video content for LoveBrum Causes working alongside LoveBrum service patrons and charity manager 

• Design graphics using tools like Canva for campaigns and impact storytelling 

• Help schedule and manage posts using tools such as Buffer

• Attend campaign planning and brainstorming sessions to maximise impact and causes storytelling 

• Ensure all content is in line with the charity’s tone, brand, and mission 

Ideal Candidate 

• Demonstratable experience creating marketing content, with examples to show (personal channels, university projects or client work all count) 

• Self-sufficient in production: able to shoot, edit and publish photo and video content end to end without supervision 

• Confident in editing video in CapCut or similar, and designing graphics in Canva to a publishable standard 

• Able to translate case studies and beneficiaries' stories into content that resonates with donors 

• Good written and verbal communication skills 

• Familiar with scheduling tools such as Buffer

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. 

The Literacy Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that everyone who comes to Read Easy to improve their reading gets the support that they need to succeed.

Role of a Literacy Specialist:
● Providing literacy support to the Coordinator and Reading Coaches
● Visiting reading pairs to advise on specific situations and challenges that Readers and Coaches may be facing
● Contributing to the content, delivery and organisation of coach meetings
● Creating a ‘Resources Box’ containing a range of useful activities and resources that Coaches can use to support and extend their Readers’ learning
● Assembling ‘Starter Packs’ for Coaches and Readers, using guidance provided
● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks

Skills needed:
● A background in teaching reading/literacy (preferably, but not necessarily, with adults)
● An understanding of the difference between the needs of adults and children in the learning process
● A knowledge of the range of teaching resources that are available for adults, or a willingness to research them
● Reasonable confidence in using IT
● The ability to use initiative and work independently
● A willingness to abide by Read easy policies and procedures
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team
● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included
● Energy and enthusiasm with an average of two hours a week to commit to the role, ideally some during the day

Ideally you will be based in the Keynsham area. You will need to attend meetings with reading pairs and there will be Management Team meetings every 6-8 weeks.

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. 

The Coordinator is the first point of contact for those who want to learn to read. They are vital in matching our Reader and Coach pairs and supporting them as they make progress.

Role of a Coordinator:

● Help interview new Coaches when recruited and shortlisted by the Volunteer Recruiter
● Enrol and assess new Readers, using the simple resources provided
● Match Readers with Coaches, make introductions, and help them organise their reading sessions (which will take place in an approved venue or online)
● Visit your reading pairs to provide encouragement, presenting certificates on occasion
● Work collaboratively with any other Coordinators in the group.
● Contribute to Coach meetings where volunteers discuss their experiences and receive further support. (Run by the Management Team typically every 8 weeks)
● Attend Management Team meetings when invited, typically every 6-8 weeks either in person or remotely
● Record progress of your reading pairs using resources provided, sharing these with the Management Team to keep them fully informed and submit expenses for payment regularly 

Skills needed:
● A passion for supporting others achieve either their reading or coaching goals
● A willingness to become familiar with the methods of the phonics based Turning Pages coaching manuals, so that you can confidently guide others
● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
● Strong organisational, time management and record keeping skills
● Self-awareness, personal responsibility and a professional approach
● Reasonable confidence in using IT (accessing documents, completing electronic forms and records, email, Teams/Zoom meetings)
● The ability to use initiative and willingness to work independently and as part of a team
● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures;
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for support from the Management Team

Ideally you will be based in the Keynsham area. The role can be done mainly from home but there will be occasional travel to meet Coaches and Readers. This role is very flexible and can fit around other commitments.

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. 

The Referrals Networker builds relationships with local agencies who may be able to refer potential Readers to the group.

Role of a Referrals Networker:
● Liaising with your group to establish which organisations have already been contacted, so that you can build on that initial work
● Managing the relationship between the referral agencies and the group
● Seeking out new referral agencies as the group grows in capacity
● Familiarising yourself with the Publicity Organiser’s resources available to you
● Creating a record of organisations and agencies who are likely to come into contact with those who don’t read and the dates you are in touch with them
● Contacting these organisations regularly to provide information about what your group offers and identify how they can best inform their personnel to make referrals
● Keeping your local group informed about your activity and identifying how many of your contacts refer new Readers
● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks 

Skills needed:
● Confidence to promote the work of Read Easy and how it can support local people who would like to improve their reading skills
● Ability to develop strong working relationships with local referral agencies and to manage expectations
● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
