Beacon for Rare Diseases hosts The Resources Hub, a 100% free and accessible e-learning platform created to support the rare disease community, including:

The Resources Hub brings together over 100 free resources, including written courses, video guides, webinars and recordings from events and conferences. These resources are designed to support people at every stage of their rare disease journey, whether they are just getting started or are part of a well-established organisation.
We are incredibly proud of the breadth and quality of what’s available on the Hub. However, much of our long-standing content is under-promoted, meaning that people don’t always find the right resource at the right time.

About the role
We are looking for a social media volunteer to help us shine a light on the wealth of content already available within the Resources Hub.
In this role, you will:
- Spend time exploring our existing Resources Hub content
- Write 1–3 social media posts per resource, tailored for different platforms
- Help us build a reusable library of social media posts that we can draw on to promote resources when they are most relevant
This role is about helping people discover support that already exists, making it easier for patient groups and advocates to find information that could make a real difference to their work.

Who this role would suit
This is a specific, project-based placement and would suit someone who already has experience in communications, social media or content creation.
You’ll be someone who:
- Enjoys writing clear, engaging social media copy
- Understands how to adapt messaging across different platforms
- Is comfortable working independently and managing their own time
- Can take guidance on tone and branding and run with it
While we don’t have capacity to provide training, you won’t be left on your own. We will:
- Provide clear direction on priorities and approach
- Share brand guidance and examples
- Review initial work to make sure everything feels aligned
- Have routine check-ins, provide feedback, and an end-of-placement review

Time commitment and flexibility
This is a fully remote volunteering role, which we ideally hope can be completed within around three months. We anticipate a minimum commitment of approximately two hours per week, though a shorter, more intensive placement could also be arranged to suit the volunteer. We are open to having more than one volunteer on this project and do not expect a single person to work through the entire Hub.

We’re seeking compassionate, reliable adults to become Independent Visitors - volunteer mentors and trusted friends to children and young people in care.
What is an Independent Visitor?
An Independent Visitor (IV) is a volunteer befriender and mentor who visits a young person in care once a month, usually on weekends, to enjoy fun, supportive activities together. As an IV, you’ll be a consistent, caring adult outside their professional network - someone who chooses to be there, just for them.
This is a long-term role, and we ask volunteers to commit to at least two years to help build a strong, stable relationship.
We are currently prioritising and seeking applications from volunteers based in the Croydon or Kent area where we have a greater need for volunteers to support childen and young people.
Why it matters
Young people in care often face instability and frequent change. Having a consistent adult who listens, encourages and simply spends time with them can be life changing.

Who can volunteer?
You don’t need previous experience - just the right values and commitment. We’re looking for caring people who are:
- Friendly and approachable
- Patient, empathetic and consistent
- A good listener
- Committed to visiting once a month for at least two years
- Willing to complete training and safeguarding checks
We particularly welcome applications from male volunteers and individuals from Black, Asian and other underrepresented communities.
What will you be doing?
As an Independent Visitor, you’ll:
- Meet your young person once a month for activities like going to the cinema, bowling, exploring parks or just having a chat
- Suggest age-appropriate outings based on their interests
- Keep in touch between visits with a weekly call or message (if they’d like)
- Occasionally join in on group events
- Create meaningful, lasting memories
Please note that all travel and activity expenses will be covered.

Training and support:
All volunteers will first be invited for a training shift. We have an induction and training process, during which we give volunteers the information they need to enjoy their time with us. Training is mainly 'on the job', supported by an experienced volunteer as well as the manager on duty. Volunteers are given regular feedback and we remain open to suggestions on how we can improve the volunteer experience. The Admissions Assistant receives continued training and development throughout their time with us.
Availability:
We are looking for volunteers who would ideally like to donate 2-4 shifts per month, weekdays or weekends, either as a 10-1.30pm shift, or a 1.30-5pm shift, for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally, you will be able to start immediately, although this is not essential. Travel expenses up to £5 will be paid, with up to an additional £5 for lunch expenses if you are on a full day shift.

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.
About Our Charity Shop
The shop plays an essential role in raising the profile of the RSPCA in our local community and funds for our branch so that we can continue our vital animal welfare work. We are seeking to appoint a voluntary Trustee for our charity who will also take up the role as our secretary.

Make no mistake, it will certainly be hard work initially as it will take some time as we work to get everything in place, so you would need to be ready to commit to this. Once things become established then it would be up to you just how much time you want to dedicate beyond keeping everything on track.

We have also helped the hospital over recent years by providing; a cardiac resuscitator, an ECG module, hydraulic treatment couches, specialised podiatry & audiology equipment, and software for a Dexta bone density scanner.
Why are you recruiting now?
While we are proud that we have been supporting St Mark’s for over 50 years, including during the COVID19 pandemic, we have recognised that we now need to need to “regroup”.
The charity has identified 2 immediate objectives; firstly, to develop our fundraising efforts as these have slipped since the pandemic, & secondly, to introduce standards of governance which ensure we fulfil statutory obligations & achieve best practice within a small charity environment.
We have recently appointed a new Treasurer to strengthen financial controls, & a further trustee with responsibility for developing our marketing effort which will provide a firm footing for fund raising. Further trustees have recently been appointed which support our charitable giving within the hospital. But we recognise that we are lacking the skills, knowledge & disciplines that a good secretary can provide.
What sort of person do I need to be?
- Hungry for change
- Tenacious
- Pragmatic
- Detailed & meticulous
- Knowledgeable of charity regulations & best practice - or not frightened to find them out & go on to implement them
- A self-starter who is able to drive us towards the changes needed
- A strong communicator
- Tech savvy – able to use MS office & have the ability to work online as needed
How much time would I need to dedicate?
You would need to have enough time to arrange, plan & follow up on Trustee meetings. At present these typically take place in alternate months but there may be a need to move these to monthly as the charity grows. One of these meetings will also include the AGM. Meetings are held in Maidenhead.
As secretary there will be other activities which will require action between meetings, for example, keeping the Charity Commission updated, maintaining policies & renewing insurance. While these activities are not onerous their timely upkeep is obviously important.
One of the key features of this appointment will be the need to drive change & establish good governance within the charity. Although we are looking for someone who can help move this forward at speed, we also recognise that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”!

Is there anything else you think I should know?
Apart from attending our meetings in Maidenhead all other work should be able to be done from home.
This is a volunteer role & necessary expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

The Trustees of NCEPOD are empowered to manage the business of the charity/company and to oversee and approve the strategy of the Enquiry. They also have a duty to scrutinise the financial affairs of the organisation and to act as its directors. In addition, they are responsible for appointing the members of the company, that is the members of the Steering Group, the Chief Executive and the Lead Clinical Co-ordinator.
The objects of the company that they have to manage are broadly defined as being to improve standards of healthcare for the benefit of the public.
The purpose of NCEPOD is to improve standards of healthcare for the benefit of the public by undertaking confidential reviews into patient care. Since 1988 the organisation has published over 50 reports which have resulted in significant, positive changes across all aspects of healthcare.
As a registered charity and company limited by guarantee NCEPOD has a board of Trustees to oversee the governance of the organisation.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint new Trustees.
Applications are invited from anyone with an interest in NCEPOD; however, applications would be particularly welcome from those with a background in one of the following:

§ Fundraising
The appointed Trustees will work with the existing Board to advise the Chief Executive on ways to develop the organisation whilst maximising the financial income to the charity.

Do you love retro arcade games and have a knack for IT, software, or troubleshooting older systems? We’re looking for a volunteer to help get our two classic arcade machines running again!
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Diagnose: Identify and troubleshoot software or IT issues on our two arcade machines.
- Update: Adjust or update game software to restore full functionality.
- Collaborate: Work with our team to ensure both games are playable and fun for the CYP community.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We need someone who is organised, communicative, and enthusiastic.
- Experience: Background in IT, software, or gaming systems.
- Problem-Solver: Comfortable troubleshooting older hardware or software.
