CBM UK works alongside people with disabilities in some of the world’s poorest places, partnering with civil society to catalyse change where it is needed most. As part of a Global Disability Inclusion Federation, CBM works together with fantastic local partners and Organisations of People with Disabilities to deliver programmes, advise development actors on inclusive approaches and advocate for change in 12 countries to break the cycle of poverty and disability. About the Chair opportunity

The Board of Trustees is responsible for overall governance and strategic direction of CBM UK, developing CBM UK’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with its governing documents, and legal regulatory requirements.

Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure is a small, friendly charity based in Southwark, providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We believe everyone should have the chance to express themselves, connect with others, and take part in activities that bring joy, confidence, and new skills.

We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Cook and Eat Volunteer to support our weekly Thursday sessions (10.30-13.30), held at St Faith’s Centre, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JQ (close to North Dulwich and Herne Hill stations).

About The Role

This role is ideal for someone who loves to get stuck in. You’ll support our tutor in delivering inclusive and fun cooking sessions for a small group of adults with learning disabilities. Every class will be an opportunity to create tasty snacks and dishes in a dynamic and supportive environment. With your help, we aim to provide our learners with a sense of pride and satisfaction at having made something delicious, whilst learning invaluable skills along the way.

As a Cook and Eat Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will:

• Assist the tutor in running weekly cooking classes

• Maintain high standards of hygiene

Women on the Frontline Ministries (WOFM) is a registered charity supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual exploitation through street-based prostitution, trafficking and other vulnerabilities. We offer outreach, a weekly drop-in, casework and relationship-based support to women who are too often neglected and stigmatised. We are looking for an experienced, motivated volunteer fundraiser to help us grow our income, raise awareness of the women we serve, and make sure this work can continue.

Our work is practical and relational: meeting women where they are, building trust over time, and walking with them towards a more stable future. The role

As our Volunteer Fundraiser, you will help shape and deliver our fundraising strategy and turn it into real income. You will be a key part of securing the resources that sustain and grow our frontline support for women. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys both planning and doing — and who wants their skills to count for something that matters.

• Help develop and deliver WOFM’s fundraising strategy and annual income goals.

A little bit about us:

Teach A Man To Fish is an international educational charity with one all-encompassing mission: to empower young people with the skills they need to succeed in school, work and life. We use our school-business model to guide young people and their teachers in the planning and setting up of student-led school businesses that are both educational and profitable. Since 2006, we have supported over 438,000 young people and trained 19,000 teachers through our programmes to set up school businesses which have generated more than $2,000,000 in income! In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic affecting schools worldwide, we launched a new programme: the Enterprise Adventure, a free mobile app for teenagers who want to learn about business and have a positive impact on their community.

The role:

We are looking for one or two volunteers to support the work of our International Programmes team. The ideal candidate will be available to volunteer for 15 hours per week for at least 3 months (ideally more). If you are based in London, you are welcome to volunteer from our office in Finsbury Park, otherwise you may volunteer from home if you prefer. 

You will have the opportunity to get involved with a wide variety of tasks depending on your skills, interests and the time of the year. These include but are not limited to:

• Helping to deliver our marketing strategy (e.g. social media content creation, website updates, carrying out research to increase our reach)

• Helping to deliver our communications and engagement strategy to programme participants (liaising with and engaging young people and teachers through newsletters, blog posts, social media, videos and WhatsApp)

• Supporting with designing educational materials and thinking of business quizzes (knowledge-based and trivia-based)

• Supporting with coordinating the review of School Enterprise Challenge, the Enterprise Adventure and the Trash To Cash Challenge submissions and sending feedback and certificates 

• Contributing to the Monitoring & Evaluation of the programmes through data analysis to inform donor reports and programme improvements

• Gathering and analysing feedback from programme participants (for example through surveys and ‘user testing’ sessions on Zoom) 

The successful candidate(s) will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive can-do attitude, with lots of initiative. 

In return, Teach A Man To Fish can offer a stimulating environment with plenty of opportunity to learn more about the development sector and the operations of a small international NGO with a large reach. With all our volunteer placements we try to tailor work to the candidates' areas of interest and provide valuable career guidance and advice. Essential:

• A passion for international development and education/entrepreneurship

• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, with minimal supervision

Terms:

Location: Our office in London (Finsbury Park) or remote.

Hours: Ideally 15 hours per week. You can fit your volunteering around other commitments (e.g. holidays, studies or another job) and choose whether you would prefer to volunteer for 2 or more full days a week, or spread the hours over more weekdays. The time commitment is flexible, so please state your availability in your cover letter.

Length: Minimum 2 months with the possibility of extension. Starting at the end of August/early September. A commitment of 3 months is preferred.

Basis: Voluntary position. Travel allowance will be provided.

The Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) is an African-led and inspired charity, established in 1989.  Its mission is to reduce poverty among the pastoralists in the Horn of Africa through the empowerment of communities and to foster sustainable and dignified livestock-based and non-livestock-based livelihoods. In the UK, it works with the Horn diaspora community through youth mentoring and leadership programmes. 

PENHA’s Aims and Objectives

• Sustainable livelihoods require a coordinated approach at the grassroots and policy levels. PENHA, therefore, commits itself to two goals:
• The social, cultural and economic integration of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the Horn of Africa
• Dynamic, diversified and sustainable pastoral and agro-pastoral livelihoods, with expanded access to information, technology, education and training
• A full and equal role for pastoral and agro-pastoralist women in public and economic life
• Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
• Development of links with the diaspora in the UK

PENHA has a team in the London Office and country chapters in the Horn of Africa region – in Ethiopia and Somaliland but works with partners in Sudan, Eritrea and Uganda as well as international partners outside the Horn of Africa.

In the UK, PENHA has a Board of Trustees, a number of research associates, volunteers and an international Advisory Group. PENHA Board of Trustees is looking for three trustees to join the London-based Board with experience in one of the following areas:

• A legal background, with financial and risk management experience;
• Knowledge of branding, marketing and fundraising, including the use of social media;
• Knowledge of the charity sector and employment law in the UK.

In addition, candidates should have an understanding of the context within which charities operate, ideally with some experience of the Horn of Africa region.

The post is unpaid and the time commitment is four to six meetings per year, with attendance at other occasional meetings and events as a representative of the charity.

The Board is responsible for submitting the Annual Report and Accounts to the Charity Commission and to Companies House. As a small charity, trustees contribute actively as part of a team in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. PENHA is currently undergoing a new strategy development process and the candidate will help steer the organisation through the challenges ahead.

In addition, Board members are responsible for:

• Ensuring that the organisation complies with its constitution/memorandum and articles of association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
• Ensuring that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
• Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
• Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
• Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation
• Protecting and managing the property of the organisation, and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
• Appointing the senior staff and  monitoring their performance

Arts at Home brings conversations about art to people as a tool to tackle loneliness and isolation. Volunteers choose artworks in advance of each session to present to the residents, and though a small amount of preparation is required, prior knowledge of art history is not. Instead, the sessions are participatory and informal, with a focus on communication and connection. The Listening Place is a volunteer-led charity aiming to transform how we support people who feel suicidal.  Our trained volunteers are part of a team delivering face-to-face, confidential, ongoing support to thousands of people each year.  They help create the warm and welcoming environment that encourages people struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly without being judged or given advice.   

Helping Volunteers are responsible for welcoming visitors onto our premises, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere (along with a cup of tea), and supporting our Listening Volunteers to help everything run smoothly.

We are looking for volunteers who have the empathy to greet distressed visitors, the willingness to undertake a variety of admin and other tasks and the resilience to support their team.  Our HVs need to be proactive, self-starters and team players with a basic understanding of IT. We ask for a weekly commitment of four hours for a period of at least six months.

We are primarily recruiting Helping Volunteers for our Hammersmith and Liverpool Street sites.
