Volunteer roles for the Disability sector

You will be vital to the work of your local Scope shop, as one of the first faces customers see.

You will receive training on serving our customers on the till, taking payments and making Gift Aid donations. This makes a real difference to our income and the number of disabled people we can support.

Your role may include:

• using the till and cash handling
• welcoming and supporting customers
• helping to display stock and window dressing
• preparing goods for sale
• tidying and cleaning the shop

When and where

You will be based at our Scope shop at 64 High Street, Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 5EA. We are flexible on the times you would like to volunteer. We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more.

We welcome anyone who is friendly and passionate about disability equality!

Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount in the shop!

About the Trustee opportunities:

Scope is seeking to strengthen the Trustee Board further and want to welcome 2 new Trustees with expertise in the following areas:

• A qualified accountant with audit/risk or governance experience
• Fundraising

Trustees act as ambassadors for the organisation, engaging with stakeholders such as donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries. They foster relationships, build networks, and advocate for the organisation’s mission, enhancing its visibility and impact.

The Trustees we appoint will work closely with other Trustees, the Chief Executive and the Executive Leadership Team. Together they will oversee the delivery of our ambitious new strategy. They must be committed to equality, and to involving disabled people in decision making.

Ruils Independent Living is a local charity that supports Disabled children and adults to live independent lives.

We are a small charity with a BIG vision and are looking for new Trustees to help us to remove the barriers Disabled people face. As a user-led charity, we are particularly looking for people with lived experience of Disability, people who have experience of the health & social care system and/or a parent/carer of a Disabled young person. We would also welcome someone with experience in HR and Law.

No prior trustee experience is required, we can provide training and mentoring. All you need is enthusiasm, a desire to learn and time to commit to the work of Ruils.

All trustees will receive a full Induction and training is available. Travel expenses are also covered.

We currently have hybrid meetings and 6 full board meetings per year with the expectation that each Trustee attends one subcommittee every other month.

This could involve running a fundraising event like a pub quiz, manning a stall at an event, taking collections or putting up posters. Whatever your background, if you want to make a difference then we want to hear from you!

This is a flexible role that allows you to do as much or as little as you want to do and an opportunity to make good use of your own skills, have a go at new activities and gain knowledge of fundraising in the charity sector.

By sharing your skills and time, you will help us to reach and help more people living with sight and hearing loss.

We ensure all volunteers who join our team are well equipped to undertake any tasks and will provide training and supervision throughout your journey with us. Any specific training will be outlined within your onboarding and induction stages and then discussed at your reviews with your named lead contact.

All materials to support your role will be supplied by Deafblind UK, including a fundraising pack with ideas for raising money and all the information you might need. The Fundraising Team will also be on hand to provide ongoing support, advice, and guidance.

The Role

We are seeking two Trustees with strong financial management experience to join our Board and serve on our Finance Sub-Committee.

Commitment:

• 4–5 trustee meetings per year (2 in person, 2–3 online)

• Additional Finance Sub-Committee meetings (online and/or in person)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide financial oversight and governance to ensure ICC UK’s sustainability, compliance and financial stability. 

• Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the charity’s funds are invested properly.

• Contribute to strategic decision-making and risk management

• Support the Finance Sub-Committee in managing investments, reviewing budgets, reserves, financial reports, and policies

• Champion ICC’s mission and vision, acting as an ambassador for our work

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in financial management or accounting or auditing 

• Understanding of charity finance and trustee responsibilities

• Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex financial information clearly

• Commitment to ICC’s mission and values

• Committed Christian, able to provide a church reference

• We welcome a diverse board of trustees, including people from across the UK, ages, ethnic groups.

Deafblind UK members have combined sight and hearing loss and many can feel lonely or socially isolated. We offer a free telephone befriending service where we match volunteers with one of our members to have a weekly 30 minute chat together.

We are looking for confident, empathetic and friendly people who can hold a good conversation. You could be chatting about similar interests or learning about each other’s lives. Whatever the conversation you’ll be having a positive impact.

One 30 minute call seems really simple but having someone to talk to and someone to listen, could really make a difference to our members. It could be that you’re the only person they speak to that day, or even that week.

Our members love to chat with people who have had some life experience and stories to tell. You will need good communication skills and be able to strike up a conversation. You will also need to be reliable, patient with a naturally warm and friendly nature.

We will ensure you are supported throughout your journey with us, offering training and support at all times.

Volunteers needed for the friendliest club in London!

Can you spare two hours a week to work with some of the friendliest, welcoming people

you’ll ever meet? If so, then please come and help our volunteers organise fun, engaging

activities at our ever-growing club for people with learning disabilities. No previous experience

is needed; you just need a caring attitude and sense of fun!

Our club is split into two age groups: 14-25 years and 25 years +. You have a chance to make a real

difference to either group by creating new experiences, helping our members to grow in

confidence, build friendships and learn new skills. Our specialist club leaders will support and

train you, and you’ll benefit from working in a very rewarding environment!
