You will keep track of their progress and share updates with your Volunteer Lead.

As a Friendship Companion, you will:

• Attend an induction session

• Complete essential online training, including goal setting and safeguarding

• Have agreed out‑of‑pocket expenses reimbursed. 

The role in a nutshell:

Age NI is looking for Enabling Connections Volunteers across the Northern Trust area and Belfast Trust area to provide companionship, encouragement and practical support to older people.

What will you be doing?

As an Enabling Connections Volunteer, you will:

•Be matched with an older person in your local area
•Meet weekly to provide companionship and a listening ear
•Encourage and support them to achieve personal goals
•Help them build confidence and independence
•Explore local activities, groups and opportunities together
•Signpost to local services and support where appropriate
•Keep in touch with the Enabling Connections Coordinator.

The role is designed to fit around your availability, making it ideal for people with work, family or other commitments.

Where Will I Volunteer?

As a Community Connector Volunteer, you will help Age UK Barnet reduce loneliness and isolation by building a short-term but meaningful relationship with an older person.

What will you be doing?

You will meet an older person you’ve been matched with once a week over a six-month period to support them in working towards their goals. Depending on their needs, you may:
•Visit them at home
•Go for a walk
•Meet in a local community space, such as a library or a café
•Help them access local groups or services
•Encourage them to build positive and sustainable connections
•To support with digital inclusion.
• Assist with planning and arranging journeys using public transport, helping to overcome barriers to travel and independence 
•Accompany clients to social, recreational, or community-based activities

You will keep track of their progress and share updates with the Enabling Connections coordinator.

As a Community Connector Volunteer, we ask you to:

•Attend an induction session
•Complete essential training, including goal‑setting and safeguarding
•Have access to one‑to‑one check in calls. 

Receive support from a dedicated project coordinator

You may need to travel locally to meet the older person or accompany them to services, and any travelling expenses can be reimbursed.

You will also be asked to take brief notes after each session and share them with your project coordinator.

How would you be supported in this role?

In addition to providing you any relevant training for the role, we will also provide you with check-ins, a key contact or other functions to ensure you are best supported as a volunteer.

Abbey Community Centre is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic volunteer to support our Recycle Art classes for people aged 60+.

When?

Every Friday
Class time: 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Volunteer time: Ideally 2:00pm – 4:00pm, to help with setting up before the class and clearing away afterwards.

We are looking for someone who is motivated, creative, organised, reliable and patient, and who enjoys helping others in a welcoming community setting.

What you’ll be helping with:

• Supporting the Arts & Crafts tutor to set up the classroom before the session
• Preparing and organising arts, crafts and recycled materials
• Helping participants with their craft activities when needed
• Encouraging participants and helping create an enjoyable, supportive atmosphere
• Clearing away equipment and materials after the class
• Keeping the classroom and storage areas clean, tidy and organised

The role in a nutshell:

Enabling Connections Befrienders offer companionship for isolated older adults in Waltham Forest, supporting them to increase their social connections and achieve their goals in life.

What will you be doing?

•To visit an isolated older person in their home, supporting them to achieve a goal or goals which they have set for themselves. 
•To support the older person to undertake new activities, go to new places and gradually increase their social connections. 
•To help the older person maintain and/or regain their self confidence, allowing and encouraging them to do as much as possible themselves.
•Offer social support, for example accompanying the older person to social events initially, and then encouraging the older person to attend on their own.
•Help the older person think about their goal, and help them overcome any barriers, referring back to the Befriending Co-ordinator where necessary.
•Keep the Age UK Waltham Forest Befriending Team informed of the older person’s general well being, any significant difficulties, incidents or concerns and the progress they are making towards achieving their goal(s).

Abbey Community Centre Green Guardians
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Centre’s communal garden.
The sessions are suitable for anyone who enjoys spending time outside, gardening and having the opportunity to meet new people.  Tasks include weeding, watering, planting seeds and bulbs and picking the fruit and vegetables we’ve grown.
Most of our garden is in raised beds and containers so taking part is accessible for those who might not usually be physically able to do so in a ‘normal’ garden environment. 
No experience is needed, just a love of nature and a willingness to get stuck in.
Sessions take place on Fridays from 10:30am to 12:30pm at

The Witness Service supports victims and witnesses when they come to court by providing practical information and emotional support, helping them to feel confident when giving their evidence. You’ll need to be able to attend court once per week in your local area during normal court hours, usually 9am to 5pm.

You’ll offer practical guidance around court processes and offer emotional support for witnesses as they wait to give evidence. You may also spend time with witnesses after they have given their evidence to help them process their experience.

This role also involves showing witnesses around the court in advance of their trial date, answering questions and supporting people with understanding how the court works. This may be through either an in-person or virtual pre-trial visit (which includes a virtual court tour).

No prior knowledge of the courts is required. However we do ask that you have excellent communication skills and are a friendly, empathetic and approachable person.

At RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch, our charity shops are looking for friendly, local volunteers to join our team and help make our shops in Chesham and Burnham a huge success. Make new friends, have fun, and help us help more animals!

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.

What We’re Looking For:

• Friendly, local volunteers who are confident talking to people.
• Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.
• We are ideally aiming for someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment, preferably 8 hours per week.
• Good communication skills and numeracy skills. 
• You will need to be aged 16 or over to volunteer in our Chesham shop, and aged 18 or over to volunteer in our Burnham shop.

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.

We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.

New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.
