You will be required to complete some essential learning and a full induction before you start in this role.

Islington SASS (Solace Advocacy and Support Service) offers vital on-going support to survivors, helping them to rebuild their lives through advice, advocacy & support. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team.
Our teams offer support to those affected by domestic and sexual violence in their community. Our teams supply information, advocacy and specialist services to increase service users’ safety and meet a range of needs – these can include ongoing safety concerns, emotional or housing support, reporting to the police, legal options and support through court, help around child contact, benefits and financial advice. As well as providing direct assistance, we also work to build capacity and develop expertise amongst professionals and agencies.
About the role
Islington SASS is a busy service, which receives many referrals every day. You will be supporting our duty team to process referrals and key admin work. If you are interested, you can also be trained to contact clients, making initial welcome or check in calls. You will be in the office in Camden one day a week on a Tuesday or Friday to support with this.
Who are we looking for?
No qualifications are needed for this role. We are looking for passionate volunteers who have:
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Excellent computer literacy
- Good time management
- A non-judgmental and open approach.
What can you gain from this opportunity?
- Volunteers will receive excellent training from a dedicated team, and gain experience using a case management system, safeguarding, talking to survivors and processing referrals.

We offer great volunteer induction training, where you will be fully supported to understand, and carry put every aspect of the role. Training includes CPD accredited courses, and the opportunity to apply to complete the level 3 Understanding Domestic Abuse Award (DAPA), which is recognized by the Home Office.

RETAIL VOLUNTEER SUPERVISOR

From helping to recruit new volunteers and leading the shop team when the manager is off, to driving sales and donations and creating eye catching window displays this is a varied and engaging role that will have an impact on the store, the local community and the fight to defend the right to a safe home.

Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who volunteer more. Many people volunteer for a morning or an afternoon each week, but we’ll have a chat about your availability after you’ve applied.

We are passionate about what we do and are proud to give pre-loved items a second chance and represent Shelter on the High Street. Our shop teams ensure fighting the housing emergency never felt so fun.
Main Tasks can include:
- Supporting our Community Shop Managers to run an exciting and inviting store.
- Using the till system to process sales, refunds and Gift Aid
- Opening and/or closing the shop, including cashing up at the end of the day
- Supporting other volunteers
- Using and updating our volunteer database
- Providing excellent customer service
- Photographing and selling key items on our online shop
- Creating posts to promote our shops on Instagram
Skills and Experiences Required: Not essential as full training will be provided, however some retail or supervisory experience would be beneficial, as would confidence in the use of technology.
What’s important to us is that you want to be part of our team and come ready to share your individual skills and experiences.
We do ask for a willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health & safety, equality & diversity, safeguarding, confidentiality & data protection.
You will be required to complete some essential learning and a full induction before you start in this role.

About the Chair Role:
The incoming Chair will be an accomplished and influential senior leader, capable of motivating, developing, and getting the best out of our dedicated non-executive team. They will play a pivotal role by fostering a positive and collaborative relationship with the CEO, supporting them in setting ambitious goals and navigating strategic transitions effectively. SolarAid seek an individual with prior experience of chair roles, preferably with a background in international development focusing on poverty alleviation, although direct experience in the energy sector is not mandatory. An understanding of African operational contexts, along with expertise in program leadership and delivery, would be advantageous.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide effective strategic leadership to the Board and organisation.
- Ensure full engagement of all Trustees, prioritising decisions in SolarAid's best long-term interests
- Establish and build a strong, effective and constructive working relationship with the CEO, ensuring they are supported in achieving strategic objectives during this period of change for SolarAid.
- Facilitate inclusive, effective and efficient meetings of the Board of Trustees.
- Work with the CEO to represent the views of SolarAid to key stakeholders and the general public, and otherwise act as ambassador as required.
Time commitment
Around 24-30 days per annum. The board meets four times each year. The Chair is required to work informally with individual board members, and with the CEO, as required. There will be some ad hoc work relevant to SolarAid business, within or outside the charity from time to time.
SolarAid are looking for a Chair who can offer the personal flexibility and availability to commit to the role during a time of change and development.

Role Description:

Main Responsibilities
