Are you passionate about singing and would like to empower others to use their voices in a choir? We are recruiting for a Choir Leader Volunteer at our Dame Gertrude Young House which supports men who have severe and enduring mental health needs.

What you will be doing

• Direct choir members in warm-ups prior to practices and performances
• Decide on appropriate musical pieces for the choir to perform depending on the occasion and setting and Choose individual choir members to perform solo pieces.
• Lead auditions to identify and pick out potentially suitable choir members.
• Build a structure, choir harmony, Determining voice types
• Provide necessary guidance and direction during choir rehearsals to help choir members in attaining the correct tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony.
• Direct choir members during musical performances
• Schedule choir rehearsals
• Craft appropriate choir formations for rehearsals and performance
• Selects music to meet the needs of the performance while also taking into account the group's aptitude and abilities

The skills you need

• Patient, passionate, creative, and assertive and knowledge and experience of working with individuals that live with mental health issues

We are The Children’s Book Project and we are just establishing our operations in Birmingham. We passionately believe that every child should have the opportunity to own a book and have, in the last year, celebrated gifting our 1 millionth book! We are looking for some wonderful volunteers to help us in managing book sorting and packing with a range of amazing corporate volunteers.

What we do:

We gift beautiful pre-loved and new books to schools and we gift within prison settings in order to reach children who may not otherwise have access to book ownership. We are on a mission to grow and develop our operations in Birmingham.

We operate in term time only so if could spare 2 days every half term to help our amazing Regional Coordinator – we would love to hear from you!

The role: We work with a range of amazing corporate volunteer teams who come to our Birmingham site (currently in Minworth) to clean, sort and then pack our books in preparation for delivery. These corporate days are always full of energy and fun and we need 2- 4 energetic and passionate people to become team leaders - making sure that there is a warm welcome, a clear plan for the day and fulfilling the workload with care, attention and inclusivity.

What is required:

On average, a commitment to 2 days per half term 

Flexibility to travel to Minworth for sorting and corporate volunteering days

*There is real opportunity to do more - some volunteering can be done from home as our Regional Coordinator needs a little help with contacting local schools who are hosting book drives for us; sharing information and helping with planning and scheduling - full training and support will be given

A higher profile can help raise funds, raise awareness of adopting a cat, promote neutering and encourage as many people as possible to learn about feline welfare. 

What can you expect to be doing? 

• Communicating with others including newsletter, social networking, website volunteers and social media
• Leading with publishing the content of newsletters and web posts with a view to advising a team of publicity and social media volunteers in the future
• Interacting with others to make sure information is positive, accurate and consistent
• Liaising with your volunteer group and our National Cat Centre to organise media campaigns
• Responding to local media requests if required

Our Key Volunteers are shop volunteers who have additional responsibilities. This is a varied and responsible role where you’ll be provided with training that will equip you to support the Shop Manager and Assistant with the day to day running of the shop, including: 

• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to customers.
• Provide great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience, support other volunteers to do the same.
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public. 
• Processing sales and serving on the till.
• Open and close the shop when necessary to support the Shop Manager.
• Cash up the till at the end of the day.
• Support with sorting donations and price stock, keeping the shop stocked up, clean and tidy.
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives.
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community.
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers. 
• Following health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone.

Essential:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Volunteer for Community Events. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact by attending and facilitating community events for LGBTQIA+ Muslim groups in Manchester. Some of the responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

● Assist the Community Trustee in researching and planning events for the hub in Manchester, London and Scotland

● Communicate with members on our Discord channel to coordinate attendance and activities

● Liaise with speakers, performers, and workshop facilitators to ensure their needs are met and their contributions align with the goals and values of the community.

● Set up and take down meeting rooms including workshop materials, refreshments and other ops as required

● Engage with attendees, volunteers, and stakeholders during events to ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

● Record attendance collect feedback and evaluate the success of each event, making recommendations for improvement.

● Assist workshop leaders and Trustees in delivering activities

● Assist with special projects and initiatives as directed by the Trustees

How much commitment is required?

We are flexible around your schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for volunteers.

● Attend monthly meetings to update on tasks, progress etc.

● Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary

● Attend all Hidayah Hub events

● Attend other Hidayah events where geographically possible

● Add to and maintain the administration of our file-sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms

● Check and respond to emails in a timely manner

● Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments

● Keep up to date with Hidayah communication and organisational developments

● Strong commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of LGBTQIA+ Muslim individuals.

● Knowledge or understanding of the specific challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ Muslims in Manchester.

● Excellent organizational and time management skills.

● Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

● Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the community.

● Previous experience in events or coordination is preferable but not mandatory.

● Join Hidayah Membership and Hidayah Discord server

● Participating and contributing to discussions on the Hidayah Discord server

● Read all Hidayah policies, keeping up to date with any changes

● Read, understand and agree with the constitution of Hidayah (available on our website)

● Working knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft, as well as project management, web and comms tools 

Personality:

● A self-starter who can volunteer with minimal supervision

● Friendliness, enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision and mission of Hidayah

Personal Skills:

● Confidence taking the lead with plans and ideas at Trustee meetings

● Ability to resolving conflict situations if needed

● Professionalism in all situations

At the heart of the BSO lies the pivotal role of the Area Lead Volunteer (previously called Area Commissioner). As the guiding force, you'll spearhead the BSO Leadership Team, inspiring and mobilising volunteers to provide exceptional experiences and life-enriching skills to our youth. Your mandate includes ensuring a well-organised and adequately staffed Area team capable of delivering outstanding programmes.

Your pivotal responsibility involves implementing the Area’s 2018-25 Strategy. You will be rallying Area, District and Group Lead Volunteers and their teams to align with its objectives. This entails motivating and supporting volunteers to achieve the Growth, Youth Shaped, Community Impact, and Inclusivity targets outlined in our strategy.

As the leader of the BSO Team, you will bolster Scouting throughout the Area by nurturing volunteer development, enriching section programmes, and providing operational support. Additionally, you'll maintain a vibrant volunteer cohort in the Explorer and Network sections, establishing a well-regarded 14-24 provision within our multiple international communities.

Leading a team of dedicated volunteers passionate about delivering exceptional Scouting experiences to every young person is at the core of this role.
