We are seeking an inspirational Chair of Trustees and a Vice Chair to lead Studio Upstairs into its next exciting chapter.

This pivotal role requires integrity, compassion, and strategic vision to ensure our much-loved arts and mental health charity fulfils its charitable objectives, maintains the highest standards of governance, and continues to thrive as a respected and trusted organisation.

The Board of Trustees plays a vital role by steering and supporting the charity development. 

We are seeking to appoint a Chair,Vice Chair or initially to join the board as a Trustee.. The Studio Upstairs Board is drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds and has a variety of skills. To complement the current Board, we would envisage that the Chair had a wide experience of running organisations and a particular interest in the charity sector. We are keen to hear from candidates with skills in the areas of Corporate Governance and Business Development ie: Charity Financial Management, Partnership working or Fundraising as well as those within Digital Technologies, Health or Legal expertise.

Studio Upstairs exists to transform lives through creativity. We have branches in Bristol and London. We are a trusted arts and mental health charity offering open studios and a creative community. We help people overcome challenges through therapeutic art practice and supportive peer interaction.

In addition to the full board meetings  there may be occasional committee meetings or meetings of specific task groups. It is expected that the Chair will also maintain regular contact with the Managing Director and other Board members.

The Board Meetings are to be held four to six times a year in London (currently online).

As a Till  Volunteer you’ll be joining a friendly, welcoming team of volunteers and staff who support each other and have a lot of fun along the way. We value every volunteer and the unique perspective, skills and energy you bring. 

Whether you’re sorting donations, creating beautiful displays, or chatting to customers, every task you take on helps to build a more inclusive world. 

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

No matter your reason for volunteering – whether it’s to meet new people, build new skills or support Sense’s cause – there’s a place for you in one of our shops. 

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to customers.
• Provide great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience.
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public.
• Processing sales and serving on the till.
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives.
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community.
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers.
• Following health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Key responsibilities: Key volunteer

• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.

OVERALL PURPOSE

Overall Responsibility for Co-ordinating the service delivery and impact measurement of a chosen WFRC Project on a day-to-day basis.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be instrumental in the growth and development of a fast-growing women & children’s charity. We are looking for someone to be an integral part of our team by ‘masterminding’ all aspects of running a chosen community project.

With your positive approach, you will enjoy working proactively and have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond to the day to day needs of the programme. You will be a confident communicator with the ability to build rapport and get conversations going with a wide range of people. You will lead and coordinate a team of volunteers in the implementation and provision of a responsive, high quality and service user-focused project. Please note that this is an unpaid voluntary role, however, volunteer expenses will be covered for the right candidate.

 OPERATIONAL TASKS

Project Implementation & Delivery:

· Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

· Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to guide project execution.

· Lead project team and facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members.

· Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure that project milestones and deadlines are met.

· Identify potential risks and obstacles to project success and develop mitigation strategies.

· Coordinate the allocation of resources, including budget, personnel, and materials, to support project activities.

· Optimise resource utilisation and identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiencies.

· Communicate project status, updates, and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.

· Establish and implement quality assurance processes to ensure that project deliverables meet established standards and requirements.

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, and reports.

· Prepare and present project status reports, dashboards, and presentations to senior management and stakeholders.

 Volunteer Management:

®  To oversee recruitment, induction and training of all new project volunteers.

®  To supervise, performance manage, appraise and support the professional development of project volunteers.

®  To recognize and appreciate volunteers’ efforts.

Evaluation, Monitoring & Performance:

® To set up monitoring and evaluation systems and ensure volunteer compliance.

® To produce quarterly and ad hoc performance reports.

® To monitor performance regularly, taking action where under-performance is identified in liaison with management.

Personnel & Training & Communication:

® To identify training needs and undertake "in-house" and external training as requested and approved by line manager.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Essential Skills & Experience:

· Strong understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.

 OVERALL PURPOSE

This role requires a hands-on communicator who is passionate about profiling service user’s voices and creating opportunities for collaboration. You’ll work with local partners to showcase the impact of WFRC’s projects & initiatives, help generate support for the charity, and profile learning, impact and successes back into the wider community.

For the role to be truly transformational the Volunteer Communications, Engagement & Partnerships manager will need to:

· Build relationships with service users, stakeholders and local partners,

· Generate compelling stories, and support communications strategies that amplify WFRC & its impact in the region.

 OPERATIONAL TASKS

  Communications Strategy Development:

® Co-develop and implement a communications strategy for the WFRC’s projects & initiatives as needed.

Content Creation:

® Generate engaging stories, case studies, and digital content featuring service users, stakeholders and local partners.

® Work with stakeholders to create and share their own content, empowering them to tell their stories.

Digital and Media Engagement:

® Profile local activities and partnerships, creating content and stories for social media and other digital platforms.

® Build relationships with local media to amplify the work of WFRC and its stakeholders.

 Engagement Partner Collaboration:

® Work with the project managers and our local stakeholders to identify opportunities to increase the charity’s profile.

® Attend online and in-person meetings with local partners in Wolverhampton to profile our work.

® Generate partner commitment to WFRC’s campaigns and initiatives.

® Work collaboratively with local stakeholders to deliver communications and engagement strategies that showcase our partnerships and impact.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

· Proven experience of general administrative work, including excellent IT skills (using Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Access).

· Proven experience of team management.

· Ideally, some experience of working in the charity sector.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent attention to detail.

· Leadership and the ability to ‘make things happen’

As a Tigrinya Interpreter Volunteer, you will be supporting women who speak little to no English and helping them to communicate with others in society. This role is necessary for our service user to feel included as well as supported. This would be a great opportunity for you to meet someone new and make a difference in their time at Hestia!

What you will be doing

• To maintain strict confidentiality and good working relationships
• To be able to meet with client when required for appointments and other professional meetings when needed
• Speech translating along with translating written documents from English to Tigrinya

• Fluent in Tigrinya
• Be understanding and patient, as well as sensitive to service user’s emotions

Are you a fluent Farsi speaker with a passion for helping others? We are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist women in improving their English language skills. Improving someone’s understanding and spoken English language, will allow individuals to communicate and connect with people in their local community, widen their network of friendships and relationships and provide people opportunity to improve their employability skills.

What you will be doing

• To support people who are not confident with spoken English to develop these skills through conversational English sessions through 1:1 or in small groups.
• Agree a mutual agreeable time and frequency that works for both parties Engage in conversation, allowing the person to feel supported and comfortable to practice speaking English Preparing and delivering sessions independently including setting work and assessing
• To keep records of conversations and update the support worker on progress of sessions.

At Hestia we have gardens and outdoor spaces which require your support to bring these back to life by keeping them maintained. We are recruiting for volunteers to motivate and inspire staff and people living in our services to get involved in gardening.

We work with people who need support with their mental health across London and the South East. Our support ranges from registered accommodation services for people with severe mental health conditions to drop-in community and crisis services.

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

What you will be doing

• Inspire and motivate staff and people in the services to get involved in maintaining and growing the garden
• To provide tips on how to maintain and grow the garden - sowing seeds, planting bulbs, taking cuttings
• Provide basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking
• Lead in planting and nurturing new trees, flowers, and various plants
• Provide best practice on how to use the correct gardening tools
• Inspire people in our services and staff to maintain a clean garden

We are recruiting for volunteers to visit pharmacies to ascertain whether they have a consultation room to deliver the Safe Spaces Scheme.

Hestia and UK SAYS NO MORE operate over 4,500 Safe Spaces in pharmacies and banks across the UK, for anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Anyone can be affected by domestic abuse, regardless of gender, age, race or identity. Domestic abuse is not always physical violence, and it can take many forms including emotional, sexual abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour. One in three women and one in seven men are affected by domestic abuse.

• To visit Pharmacies and Banks/Building societies to check whether they have a consultation room to deliver the Safe Spaces Scheme

You will support us to reach some of the most isolated adults in your community, including individuals with complex needs, to reduce feelings of loneliness, build meaningful friendships, and improvement well-being. You will support people to recite a passion for a hobby or an interest, or encourage them to explore and participate in new social activities.

Through regular companionship and encouragement, you will help individuals rebuild their lives beyond crisis, increase their confidence, and strengthen their connection with their local community.

This is a complex needs service, and we are looking for volunteers who are confident, non-judgemental, and are able to support individuals facing a range of challenges.
