What is a Community Engagement Volunteer?

As a community engagement volunteer, you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. We want to ensure that our Armed Forces community knows that SSAFA is here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

A varied programme of awareness raising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

We are looking for trustees, with knowledge of housing regulation, legal expertise or with experience in property acquisition and development to support us with a significant strategic project to explore incorporating an SPV and becoming a Registered Provider of Social Housing.

What will you be doing?

Emmaus UK is currently undertaking feasibility work to consider the incorporation of an SPV which can become a Registered Provider of Social Housing on behalf of the Emmaus federation in the UK. This is an exciting prospect and would unlock significant potential to achieve our strategic objective to help more people.

Joining the EUK Board at such a significant moment will enable you to play a key role in the future of Emmaus. You will be an integral part of developing the movement and central to making strategic decisions within EUK as the national body.

Emmaus UK is governed by the Emmaus UK Board, currently comprised of nine trustees, the majority of whom are elected by federation members. Primarily, you would become one of these trustees.

Our committee structure combines EUK facing committees to ensure the board have the correct oversight of internal functions with federation facing committees to provide the board with the views of members and beneficiaries across the movement. A new committee is currently in development to overseeing the Registered Provider project which you would also sit on as part of this appointment.

Our governance structure has gone through a period of significant review and transformation and is now in a strong position to serve Emmaus for the future. This is a particularly exciting time to join as a trustee as we begin to develop our next strategy for 2027 onwards and make key decisions around the model of Emmaus in the UK.

What are we looking for?

To ensure that we are in the best position to pursue our next strategic chapter, we are looking to build the expertise of the Emmaus UK Board in:

• Housing Association/Housing Expertise or relevant
  regulatory expertise - providing strategic input as we develop the subsidiary and proceed with becoming a Registered Provider
• Legal expertise - ideally in a relevant field e.g. charity or corporate governance, housing, property, regulation etc
• Property Acquisition and Development - to support us with providing high quality services and managing sustainable growth

Treasurer and Trustee sought for Trauma Aid UK, a leading charity dedicated to training in underserved countries affected by war, conflict and disaster. 

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Trustee and the Treasurer of Trauma Aid UK. The Treasurer will be responsible for overseeing the financial management of the charity, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and advising the Board of Trustees on financial matters.  This is not an accounting or book-keeper role. 

The Trustee/Treasurer role is to support the financial stability and integrity of our organization. Knowledge of UK legalities surrounding charity financial transactions an advantage. The Treasurer is required to be UK based and we request UK citizenship as the evidence of right to work in the UK. 

As a leading training provider since 2009, we work in partnership with local mental health professionals through training, supervision and advanced workshops to build a network of qualified and experienced therapists who can offer treatment and train others in evidence-based trauma therapy. We are currently working in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Arab Countries. 

Time commitment  : Approximately 9 meetings per year (every 5-6 weeks minus holidays periods and summer)

About 1 hour per month. Working from home but occasional in person Strategy meeting, typically annually and in London (next meeting is January 24th 2026).

The Role of The Chair

Role Summary

Education Outreach Volunteers support the Reptile Centre by assisting with community education sessions, school visits, events, and public engagement activities. Volunteers help promote reptile welfare, conservation awareness, and responsible pet ownership. This role is ideal for people who enjoy working with the public, have an interest in animals, and want to make a positive impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Support Educational Sessions

• Assist staff during school visits, workshops, and community outreach events.

• Help set up and pack away educational materials, displays, and activity stations.

• Support the delivery of interactive demonstrations (with or without live animals, depending on training).

• Engage with visitors, answer basic questions, and help create a welcoming learning environment.

NAPAC are looking for someone who is empathetic and resilient with a real passion for supporting people through their healing journey to join our friendly team in Stockport.

NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) offers support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect. Many adults with a history of childhood abuse continue to suffer – from post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, depression, and other issues. It doesn’t have to be this way – this is the chance for you to change someone’s life for the better.

As a volunteer support line Call Handler, you will be a key member of our dedicated team, providing emotional support and a safe environment for callers with a wide range of complex issues.

NAPAC offers full training and hands-on support for call handlers with every call they receive. Volunteers will receive a 5-week training course (4x3 hour sessions plus a shadowing week) Volunteer recruitment is ongoing with courses running every couple of months. Here you will receive specialist trauma-informed training and be fully equipped with the skills you need to feel confident in supporting survivors. You will use these skills to explore issues relating to childhood abuse and it how it effects adulthood and signpost callers to relevant resources and services that can provide more in-depth support. Calls are caller-led, and you will be there to empower each caller to take back control in their lives.

Volunteers are also invited to attend our twice-yearly training days where we host guest speakers from other relevant organisations.

We are looking for a patient and chatty volunteer to visit a lovely lady in Woodley, Reading. She loves soft, cuddly toys and rainmakers, and is known to enjoy a nursey rhyme or two! She is non-verbal, but understands everything you say to her, so a friendly and understanding approach is key. She would love to have you stop by for a cup of tea and a chit chat, and perhaps over time venture out for walks and shopping in the local community.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you. The person you visit might choose to take part in simple activities or watch you doing the activities. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

• Sitting and having a chat
• Checking in on their well- being
• A craft activity at home
• Reading a book/magazine together

We are currently seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of our organisation. We're especially interested in individuals with experience in marketing, legal affairs, HR, adult education, fundraising, finance, or IT.

This is a meaningful opportunity to:

• Help guide an organisation where spiritual exploration meets learning, where inclusive communities flourish, and where people are supported to offer spiritual care with courage, compassion, and understanding.

• Contribute your professional skills in a nonprofit trustee role aligned with your values

What We’re Looking For:

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in any of the following areas:

• Marketing, communications, or branding

• Charity law or legal compliance

• Fundraising, development, or grant-writing

• Finance, accounting, or business planning

• Human Resources or organisational development

• Education or curriculum development

• Interfaith ministry, chaplaincy, or spiritual direction

dasl (Disability Advice Service Lambeth) is looking for new Trustees.

We want to recruit up to 6 new members to our Trustee Board to shape our organisation as it evolves.

As well as being Deaf or Disabled people – having an impairment or a long-term health condition – we want trustees that reflect our Disabled community in Lambeth, with a diverse range of identities and lived experiences. If you are an individual from a Global Majority community (Black, Brown, Asian or mixed heritage backgrounds) your cultural expertise will be welcomed and could be transformative to our organisation.

If you are keen to work with other local Deaf and Disabled people to push for change, we would love to hear from you.

We are especially keen to recruit people with experience and skills in one or more of the following:

· Finance

· Influencing, campaigning or speaking up

· Previous experience as a trustee

About dasl

Disability Advice Service Lambeth (dasl) is Lambeth's pan-impairment Disabled People's Organisation, running for 25 years.

We are proudly peer-led – this means we put the voice and views of Disabled people first. We are led by what our members need.  

We provide high-quality services and influence and campaign to change systems that exclude or oppress Disabled people.

We work for the full inclusion of Disabled people in Lambeth:

· to achieve our legal rights and entitlements

· to be in control of our lives

· to be active in our communities and not isolated

· to grow our skills and fulfil our personal ambitions

· to be listened to and influence change together

Two-thirds of our staff have lived experience as a Disabled person.

We have exciting programmes running and great plans for the future:

· our ground-breaking Leadership programme is developing confidence and skills in local Disabled people to make change happen

· we are building new work in training and consultancy, being respected for our knowledge and expertise

· our growing Advice team is influencing local and national policy, as well as ensuring Disabled people get the income they are entitled to

Volunteer positions currently available in Lambeth

Hospital Visitor Volunteer 

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

• hold drop-in sessions
• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
• share information
• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

​All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

Many older people in our communities face significant challenges - from loneliness, isolation, and frailty to financial hardship and managing lifechanging conditions like Dementia. The work we do is vital in ensuring they have access to the support and care they deserve.

Our team is deeply passionate about this mission. Many of us have personal experience supporting older relatives through similar challenges, and these lived experiences fuel our commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate services.

Following our successful merger in August 2023, our organisation is now moving forward with greater ambition and a renewed focus on expanding our reach. As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in shaping that future - helping us to serve more people, strengthen our services, and advocate for the needs of older people across Maidstone, Sevenoaks, and Tonbridge. 

We are looking for people from a financial background to help with oversight of our budgeting, planning, forecasting, investments, governance, reporting and financial decision-making. This is a great opportunity to work closely with organisational leaders to ensure every penny makes a difference.
