Home-Start Croydon offers parents the support they need to help give their children the best start in life. As a Parent Champion Volunteer you will be engaging with families from your own community, providing peer to peer support and promoting services for children under 5 and their families. By connecting with other parents and carers, Parent Champions help communities thrive, breaking barriers and reducing isolation.
Key activities
- Engage with parents with children under 5 years old
- Build good knowledge of own community and links with local families
- Signpost parents to children’s centres and local organisations providing services for families
- Talk with parents in groups
- Facilitate parents to build peer to peer support groups
- Provide information on childcare options including the free early learning for two year olds
- Record accurate information manually
- Attend training and personal development activities
- Meet the Parent Champion Coordinator and other Parent Champions to share good practice
Person Specification
- Have experience of being a parent or carer
- Ability to talk and listen to other parents and understand their world
- Have a non-judgemental attitude
- Have an understanding of the difficulties parents face when looking for childcare

What we're looking for
We're looking for enthusiastic, approachable and fun-loving people to be event volunteers, linked to our Norwich committee. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.
What you'll do
You'll kindly volunteer your time at Norwich's fundraising events to help raise vital funds for the NSPCC. You could be selling raffle tickets, supporting a collection, making tea and coffee at a lunch or coffee morning or providing support to one of Norwich committee's annual events. You will engage with the public, organisations and the local community – promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! We'd particularly like to hear from you if your workplace run a matched funding scheme alongside your attendance at a fundraising event.
You'll work closely with your regional Community Fundraising Manager and the Norwich committee who can provide you with a choice of events to attend. This role offers the opportunity to build your personal skills and raise your profile in your community. It is flexible, you only need to commit to a couple of hours a month but you can do more if you would like to.
What you'll get
At the event, we'll support you with guidance, advice, and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us.

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.
Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.
The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:
- An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
- Support to prepare for parenthood
- Support to build confidence in parenting skills
- Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant
- Support to establish daily and weekly routines
- Support to take time for self-care
- Support to manage the things that are causing stress
- Support to access relevant services

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We are seeking a volunteer Trustee and Treasurer to help us manage the iconic Winterbourne Medieval Barn. You will join an experienced Board of Trustees who have developed activites to create a successful Community and Heritage Centre.
We run a programme of events for the benefit of the local community, as well as offering commercial hire opportunities. The activities are largely volunteer run and are supported by three part time staff. Our aim is to use this magnificent building for the benefit of all visitors and it ensure that it is preserved and managed so that it will continue to inspire people for many generations.
As a Trustee and Treasurer you will use your skills and experience to ensure that the charity is run in a way that is responsible, effective and meets its legal and statutory requirements.
What Are we Looking For?
We are looking for someone with:
- Knowledge and experience of finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management
- Good financial analysis skills
- Ability to communicate clearly.
The main elements of the role are:
Summary
- Oversee the financial affairs of WMBT and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice
- ·As part of routine financial control ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial policies and procedures are in place
- Monitor and report on the financial health of WMBT
- Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns and accounts
- Chair the Finance committee.
Specifically
- Ensuring that finance systems and processes which support the Financial Procedures Manual policies are set up, documented and implemented
- Ensuring that sufficient records are maintained to show and explain WMBT’s transactions, in order to disclose accurately, the financial position of WMBT at any time
- Managing the budgeting process for the annual budget
- Presenting financial reports at each Trustees’ meeting which give the Board of Trustees an understanding of WMBT’s overall finances, and giving advice and information to support decision making
- Liaising with the independent examiner to produce the statutory accounts.
- Provision of overall management of the Trusts’s bank accounts
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with:
- Knowledge and experience of finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management
- Good financial analysis skills
- Ability to communicate clearly.
What difference will you make?
The continued success of the Trust depends on the maintenance of strong financial support to ensure that the building is maintained and managed in an appropriate manner. The business plan requires a mix of heritage and commercial activities to achieve this and to ensure that the Trust continues to serve the community.
What is involved
Much of the role can be performed remotely, but there will be a requirement to attend 8 meetings a year at Winterbourne (4 Finance Committee meetings and 4 Board of Trustee meetings)

About You:

We particularly encourage applicants who will enhance the diversity of our Board and ETS Committee to better reflect the communities and young people we serve.
Time Commitment
The Trustee Board meets approximately 4x per year. The ETS Committee meets approximately 4x per year. In addition to above meetings, a commitment equating to approximate 10 days’ worth of time will be required (not necessarily full day commitments – this is the total time commitment)
