Job description

Schools Outreach Coordinator (volunteer)

Development in Action (DiA) is a youth-led and volunteer-run development education charity working to engage young people in the UK in global issues and to promote global citizenship.  We do this through delivering youth workshops in schools, hosting public events and by providing an online blog platform for young people to write and engage in development issues.

The Global Citizenship youth workshops are a central aspect of DiA’s development education work, offering free workshops to schools, colleges and sixth forms throughout the UK on the subject of global development issues. In these COVID-19 times, the workshops can be held virtually with classes or as an extracurricular school activity.

This Schools Outreach Coordinator role would suit an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, who is able to build relationships with schools. This role offers the opportunity to expand our existing network of schools, promote and arrange workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Research, approach and build relationships with schools to ensure programme delivery.
  • Promote and arrange logistics of each school workshop.
  • Maintain accurate records and information on the content, scope and scale of the school workshop programme.
  • Be the main liaison focal point for each school, following up with them after each workshop to collect feedback and arranging subsequent workshops.

Desired skills, qualities and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in, and enthusiasm for, networking and relationship building.
  • Demonstrated ability to research schools and communicate with Headteachers or other points of contact.
  • Experience of youth leadership.
  • A strong understanding of and enthusiasm for DiA’s values, mission and ethos.
  • Passion for education, international development, global citizenship and responsible volunteering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and IT skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative, manage workload, prioritise your own time and meet deadlines.

Please note this role is home-based, with attendance at committee meetings which are either held in person or virtually. Time commitment: 6 hours per week, possibly with some weekend or evening work required. A minimum commitment of 6 months would be desirable for this role.

Please send a CV and covering letter (maximum of two sides of A4 each) explaining why you are interested in the role, and how you meet the criteria to our email box by 5pm on Friday 12th February.

Shortlisting for this post will take place soon after the closing date. Initial interviews will take place via Skype/Zoom in the middle of February.
