What will you do?

We are committed to the ongoing development of our volunteers with skills development, 1-2-1 support, a reference after 3 months and further opportunities to get involved in our work.
Expenses: Community Southwark reimburses travel expenses up to £6 per week and lunch expenses up to £5 when volunteering 4 or more hours in person.
Times and location: This role can be carried out from our office in Bermondsey or from home, and can be a one or two day per week role – flexible to your availability.

We want to increase the support we give the British Overseas Territories, so every young person no matter if they are in Birmingham or Bermuda has access to a great, safe Scout programme and our volunteers are supported.

Communications - building a campaign of internal communications across the British Overseas Territories to ensure consistent, engaging communications between the island and countries, as well as ensuring communications from UK HQ are shared across suitable platforms

Volunteer Experience – supporting transformation across the British Overseas Territories and engaging the adult volunteers there with the volunteer experience changes.

Could you look after the finances for the local SSAFA service in your area? You don’t need a military background, just some basic I.T and finance skills. If so, this could be the role for you.
What is a Branch Treasurer?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. These are divided into small local areas that we call divisions. Each branch has a treasurer overseeing the divisions that, in turn each have a treasurer of their own. This is a key role involving financial planning and financial administration.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles and fundraisers.
One of the key ways we help people is by tapping into various sources of funding on their behalf. Monitoring and reconciling this flow of funding into and out of SSAFA accounts is important to ensure clients receive timely support and we are able to account for all charitable funds in our care.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. This flexible role involves using our on-line financial management system and on-line bank accounts and so can be done when and where suits you best. You will need to attend a number of branch committee meetings each year.
What would you be doing?
- Maintaining and reconciling local bank accounts and recording transactions
- Supporting divisions to manage their local finances.
- Making and recording all authorised payments
- Preparing year end accounts and financial statements including arranging an independent review
- Working with the branch secretary, advise on a local fundraising programme to cover branch running costs.
- Identify and manage the return of any surplus monies from grants as appropriate.
- Providing reports to the branch committee and to SSAFA’s Central Office
- Maintaining accurate records using our on-line finance management system
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

- Access to public transport or a car to gravel to meetings etc.

Job Description:
As a Volunteer Events Assistant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission by supporting in-person Teashop sessions. Each session brings together groups of up to 15 adults experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health symptoms, providing them with an enjoyable activity and an opportunity for connection in a supportive environment. We’ve offered dog therapy, art-making, yoga, and wellness discussions in the past.
Responsibilities:
- Create Eventbrite/Facebook/Instagram ads to draw new participants to future sessions.
- Assist with the setup and logistics of sessions for The Teashop service
- Travel to and support Teashop sessions by helping with materials, taking photos, and managing sign-in procedures, typically two sessions per month during weekends.
- Create engaging social media content to promote The Teashop sessions and build community awareness.
- If required, provide mental health first aid support by signposting and offering assistance to attendees in need.
- Collect feedback at the end of each session and input it into Excel spreadsheets.
Essential Criteria:
- 18+ years old
- Completed A-levels or equivalent
- Must possess a valid DBS check or be willing to have it done
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively during sessions
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with diverse communities

Each session brings together groups of up to 15 adults experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health symptoms, providing them with an enjoyable activity and an opportunity for connection in a supportive environment. We’ve offered dog therapy, art-making, yoga, and wellness discussions in the past.
Responsibilities:
- Create Eventbrite/Facebook/Instagram ads to draw new participants to future sessions.
- Assist with the setup and logistics of sessions for The Teashop service
- Travel to and support Teashop sessions by helping with materials, taking photos, and managing sign-in procedures, typically two sessions per month during weekends.
- Create engaging social media content to promote The Teashop sessions and build community awareness.
- If required, provide mental health first aid support by signposting and offering assistance to attendees in need.
- Collect feedback at the end of each session and input it into Excel spreadsheets.
Essential Criteria:
- 18+ years old
- Completed A-levels or equivalent
- Must possess a valid DBS check or be willing to have it done
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively during sessions
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with diverse communities
- Availability to volunteer two weekend days per month for in-person sessions
- Ability to travel to session locations within the designated area
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for data entry and social media management.
Desirable criteria:
- An undergraduate degree (BSc/BA)
- A valid driver's license and licensed vehicle to help transport materials
- Experience in customer service/administrative role
- Experience with working with people with mental health conditions
- Experience in social media and/or graphic design skills

A bit about this role
Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. The purpose of this role is to support the organisation with communications and administration at a local level. You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.
What can you expect to be doing?

Time expectation
Our support volunteers usually spend 2-5 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
