Islington SASS (Solace Advocacy and Support Service) offers vital on-going support to survivors, helping them to rebuild their lives through advice, advocacy & support. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team.
Our teams offer support to those affected by domestic and sexual violence in their community. Our teams supply information, advocacy and specialist services to increase service users’ safety and meet a range of needs – these can include ongoing safety concerns, emotional or housing support, reporting to the police, legal options and support through court, help around child contact, benefits and financial advice. As well as providing direct assistance, we also work to build capacity and develop expertise amongst professionals and agencies.
About the role
Islington SASS is a busy service, which receives many referrals every day. You will be supporting our duty team to process referrals and key admin work. If you are interested, you can also be trained to contact clients, making initial welcome or check in calls. You will be in the office in Camden one day a week on a Tuesday or Friday to support with this.

Our volunteers champion the rights of young people in care and on the edges of care, support them to access advocacy and make their voices heard. Training is provided. Whether you are currently studying, recently graduated, working part-time, retired or between jobs, volunteering with Coram Voice is a great opportunity to make a difference at the same time as gaining experience of working for a national children’s rights charity.
Our Helpline Supervisors will support you to develop valuable advocacy skills and knowledge of children’s rights and we offer specialist training in safeguarding, equality and diversity and advocacy. This training and other resources will help you to prepare for the role. You will be joining a team that provides quality support to young people in a friendly and supportive environment.
Our volunteer team is integral to our service and we could not provide the service we do without them, particularly in terms of the support we offer to homeless children.

Commitment: 10 to 15 hours per week, planning and strategy work can be done at times to suit you with occasional time bound interviews and team meetings scheduled to suit your schedule (corporate speak for: ‘we’ll ask when works for you first!), events would require your attendance.

Job Description
You will work alongside our CEO and Managing Director throughout 2024/5 to:

Create our events calendar for 2022 in line with our purpose, including workshops, classes, talks, fairs, festivals and anything else you can think of!

Build and manage our events team

Take ownership of managing the events

Build systems and processed to plan, execute and review all events

Report on plans and past events to the leadership team and trustee board
Note: This role has been designed for a year to support in building and managing our events but we would love to have you longer if it works for us both.
About you

Be a rogue thinker, willing to come up with bold and innovative ideas. We love creativity and ridiculousness here.

Leadership skills are important as you’ll be building a team to work with, so you need to be able to organise, engage and support a team.

Time management and delegation skills are vital to make sure you’re keeping to the agreed hours!

Following the decision by the Boards of all 28 London Citizens Advice charities to create a new and consortium, London Citizens Advice are seeking Trustees.
For the past two years London Citizens Advice has worked as an immensely successful informal coalition. On 27 February 2024 the Boards of the 28 London Citizens Advice charities approved the decision to transfer to a legal entity including registration with regulatory bodies and the draft Articles of the new charity.
We are looking for energetic, talented and committed individuals to join us as trustees.
The new charity will have up to twelve trustees. Five will be member trustees (one local citizens advice trustee for a London region), four independent trustees including the Chair of Trustees, and up to three co-opted trustees.
London Citizens Advice is a membership consortium of 28 Citizens Advice charities delivering advice services across London. Each of our members is a member of the national Citizens Advice network of around 250 charities. When we become legally constituted, we will be a consortium member of the Citizens Advice network.
London Citizens Advice exists to support and develop the work of local Citizens Advice, through adopting the following aims:
- Share, promote and assure best practice to build consistency and quality of the Citizens Advice Service
- Manage specified contracts on behalf of external partners in conjunction with agreed participating members.
- Identify and develop partnerships to pursue new sources of funding in London.
- Highlight the impact of, and influence responses to, social welfare issues by lobbying at a London and regional level
