Tasks and responsibilities

- Helping visitors to discover more, answering questions and making suggestions so they can enjoy their day, their way.
- Being an ambassador for the whole property and the National Trust. Helping visitors understand the full scope of the offer at Ickworth beyond the house.
- Learning more about Ickworth, so you can share your knowledge and stories of the family and their collections with visitors.
- Responding to the changing needs of Ickworth – supporting ongoing interpretation strategies in the House.
- Supporting with health and safety and evacuation procedures if required.
- Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines

The group meet once a month in a relaxed informal setting for a drink or bite to eat. Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we are able to help more cats and kittens in need.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
- Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
- Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
- Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
- Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
- With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
- Represent the branch at relevant meetings
- Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Chair of Trustees
We are looking for a Chair of Trustees who is passionate about the cause but also keen to get involved and help drive the charity’s strategic direction.
Working for a small Muscular Dystrophy family charity, you will work closely with trustees and the charity’s founder and CEO to drive the organisations strategic direction.

The Role
You will work closely with the charity’s founder and CEO but also you will lead the trustees in strategy, good governance, and policy development. As part of this engagement, the Chair will provide support to the CEO, including supporting his wellbeing and ongoing professional development.
Other duties will include:
· When necessary, ensure the Chair and Trustees challenge the CEO constructively and only in the best interests of the charity as ‘critical friends’.
· Liaising with the Charity Secretary, and the CEO with drafting agendas and supporting papers for Trustee meetings, ensuring provision of timely information and sharing with all.
· Ensure charity business is covered efficiently and effectively in meetings.
· Undertake a leadership role to ensure that board members fulfil their governance responsibilities and that trustee decisions are acted upon.
· Maintain trustees’ commitment to board renewal, succession planning and trustee performance reviews, in line with the governing document.
· Ensure board and trustee performance is reviewed annually.
· Ensure the performance of the CEO is reviewed annually.
The Chair will also ensure that Trustees make an effective contribution and are engaged, fully involved and invested in the charity in discharging their responsibilities.
Time Commitments
· The time commitment required to fulfil the Chair role will be somewhere between 2-3 days per month
· MHF’s Trustee Board meets virtually once every 2 months, for 2 hours, within the financial year (1st Mar – 29th Feb)
· The Chair & trustees are encouraged to attend and engage with at least one Muscle Dream programme per year
· The Chair will conduct an annual review meeting with each trustee, outside of any other trustee meetings
· The Association of Chairs (AoC) are an independent association of Chairs of social purpose and not-for-profits – formed to help Chairs with their unique task to lead the board in delivering the organisation’s aims – the AoC offer some excellent resources including Chair Training (if required)

Summary
The Sussex Area of the Ramblers has two Countryside Officers, one for East Sussex and one for West Sussex. The primary function is to act on behalf of members where a reported planning development could have a detrimental effect on the Sussex countryside.
Description
The Ramblers works to help everyone enjoy the pleasures and benefits of walking, and to enhance and protect the places where people walk. We are committed to encouraging and supporting walking, protecting and expanding public rights of way and access land, and protecting the beauty of the countryside and other areas. We recognise the threat posed to our countryside by climate change, which could severely alter many of our cherished landscapes. Ramblers support measures to mitigate this by switching to renewable sources of energy which are sensitively sited and don’t damage precious landscapes. In addition we believe the government must focus particularly on improving energy efficiency, pursuing a range of measures to reduce the amount of energy wasted in generation, transmission and use. We are concerned about the potential impacts of onshore shale gas exploration and exploitation, both on access to the places we walk and on the beauty of the wider countryside. We will oppose such operations where we believe these impacts to be unacceptable, particularly in areas designated for their natural beauty such as National Parks (e.g. The South Downs) and National Landscapes (e.g . Chichester Harbour).
The role involves reviewing planning applications published by the Local Authority and lodging objections on behalf of Sussex Ramblers in the event that such developments are considered to have a detrimental effect on the Sussex countryside and the places where people walk. Such concerns may be expressed in writing through a response to the planning process, but could also involve site visits and on occasions attendance at public hearings.
The incumbent will work closely with other Ramblers officers such as the West Sussex Area Footpath Officer and where necessary will seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' central office. Other main contacts include the Local Authorities, Parish/Town Councils and Local Access Forum. The position reports to the Area Council.

The position is suitable for a mature professional individual who is highly reliable, organised, capable of taking initiative and with an ability to articulate strategic issues clearly in written form. A desire and ability to work in a team environment is essential. You will also need to be comfortable using a computer and the internet, and managing information.

Leading support sessions: For many of our service users, our weekly support sessions are a lifeline, as well as an opportunity to socialise, speak any worries they have, and generally have a safe space to talk freely about their illness. Safeguarding: Our sessions will mostly be a way to let our service users come together, but there may be times that you notice something not quite right. It could be the welfare of the individual, something in their surroundings, or another person in the background/they mention in conversation. It is up to you to flag these incidents to senior staff so that we may investigate.
Have fun and show passion for CM: You'll understand why Chronically Marvellous exists, and why the work that we do is important to so many people. You will be able to portray this in the sessions you host, and be able to show our service users that they are in a safe space. With the growth of Chronically Marvellous, we need more volunteers to operate our helpline, to give support and help to our community.
What will you be doing?
Our Helpline volunteers will work in shifts to ensure that our helpline is always staffed for our community.
Are you able to listen with empathy, understanding and without judgement? If so, you could play an important role as a volunteer for the Chronically Marvellous community. We are always in need of dedicated volunteers to join our growing service, to provide an ear to those who feel isolated and in need of support.
Our Helpline offers support to people in many ways: through signposting to other services, by offering a friendly chat at any time of day, for example. It is a crucial service and is often the first point of contact for people with chronic illnesses who need support.
The role will include:
Being the first point of contact for incoming calls, handling the calls sensitively and professionally
Being empathetic, non-judgemental and offering a friendly listening ear
Signposting to other relevant trusted services if appropriate, or noting down a need so that we can assess them for our services
Ensuring that relevant data is recorded after each call
Escalating any concerns via the appropriate channels and seek support when needed.
You will receive training and ongoing support in this role.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with a willingness to listen with empathy, understanding and without judgement. You will be acting as a first point of contact and it is important that calls are handled in a way that respects the individual.
You need to have:
Experience in a customer service role/volunteer work as a befriender/other similar experience
Excellent communication and active listening skills
Empathy and sensitivity for people with chronic illnesses
Be able to commit for around 5 hours per week

About the role:
The Maia Service works with young women and girls living in Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Camden, Islington and Westminster. We enable young women and girls to escape harm and to thrive in their lives and aspirations. We support young women and girls to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience, manage their health and wellbeing, and access and engage with other support services. The support we provide is delivered through a range of activities, including 1-2-1 advocacy and a programme of group-work and workshops delivered by specially trained members of staff.
About You:
Advance recognises that women and girls’ journeys to recovery after experiencing trauma are not always linear. Volunteer Mentors must be in a place in their own lives where they are not currently facing risk of harm or have ongoing support needs in relation to experience of violence and abuse, current or alcohol use and/or contact with the criminal justice system, see our Person Specification (within the job description) to understand if you are the best person for this role.

Our advice line is a vital service to people experiencing domestic abuse and is available 24 hours. To help us provide the best possible service, we are looking for volunteers to help support this coverage.
Working closely with our trained team of experts, advice line volunteers will offer callers reliable information, friendly support, and useful signposting. Volunteers would need to be available for approximately 2 hours on a regular basis each week, during either our daytime (9am to 4pm) sessions or evening (4pm – 10pm) sessions. After a period of training, this role can be carried out from home or from our Northampton refuge.
Please note that this is a new voluntary role within NDAS and as such it will change and evolve whilst it is being developed and put into practice.
NDAS envisages the following as a guide.
You will be:
- Committed to supporting callers facing domestic abuse situations.
- Responsive and sensitive to the disclosure of domestic abuse and mindful of issues relating to risk, confidentiality, and information sharing.
- Mindful of boundaries after disclosure; working with systems and processes internally and externally whilst understanding the limitations of the role.
- Able to sensitively gain information from callers and be able to follow the provided procedures for handling calls.
- Able to relay information clearly and concisely whilst using our case management software.
You will NOT:
- Be responsible for DA cases or concerns.
- Be expected to be a ‘specialist’ in this field. Instead, you will be supporting the existing team and taking details from callers for our specialists to then contact.
- Be left without support – trained members of staff are on hand to always offer advice and support.
What we’re looking for:
- An excellent telephone manner is essential as is high level of computer literacy.
- You must have a genuine desire to help people.
- The ability to work calmly in a pressured situation.
- You will need to be patient, empathetic and non-judgemental.
- You will be discreet with the information that’s shared with you.
- You will be accepting and won’t discriminate against anyone, for any reason.
At NDAS we welcome applications from a wide range of applicants.
There are no pre-requisites for this role and we don’t expect you to be an expert in domestic abuse to volunteer with us. Extensive training will be provided before you begin your volunteer role, along with ongoing, regular support. However, knowledge, understanding or experience that complements the role is always beneficial – be sure to include this in your application, as there is often strong competition for our roles.
We would appreciate any time you are able to offer. If you can commit to regular hours (such as 2-3 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest you. As it takes an amount of time and resource to welcome new volunteers on board, we would appreciate it if you pledged to support us initially for a minimum of 6 months.
