Role Overview
We are looking for Probation Dependency & Recovery Peer Mentor volunteers to join and be part of our new exciting team of Lived Experienced Peer Mentors. You will have specific lived experience (recovery / offending / prisoners on probation / homelessness), relevant to the mentoring service we are providing, who will act as a role model to prisoners on probation and support them to achieve positive outcomes.
As a volunteer peer mentor volunteer, you will be building motivation/confidence and empowerment to your assigned mentee, by sharing your lived experiences, empowering mentees to overcome their challenges of recovery, whilst giving advice on relapse prevention strategies, providing advocacy/advice on treatment interventions, signposting to community support/activities offering a ‘listening ear’ to your mentee from someone who understands. As a peer mentor your mentee will have the confidence in knowing they are being supported by someone who has gone through similar experiences and has faced similar challenges to the ones they face today. You will be supported by your Lived Experienced Co-ordinator who will guide and support you through the onboarding and training process and throughout your mentoring journey.
Your Co-ordinator will provide regular 1.1 / team meetings / activities that will enhance your mentoring skills, as well as development for future education/employment. Most importantly, you will feel that you are part of a dynamic team that will help to change lives and making a difference. You will be providing essential additional support, information and guidance to Forward Trust prisoners on probation, you have been allocated to. You will help your mentee/s to formulate their goals, support them, review their achievements and overcome their barriers, in a holistic/person centred manner.
You will work closely with Recovery Navigators & Co-ordinators, supporting mentee/s who will meet their Recovery Navigators on a regular basis. Recovery Navigators will develop an action plan designed for their specific needs, and will sign post them to additional services where necessary. You will offer additional support in conjunction with their Recovery Navigator in delivering their action plan, meeting once/twice a week, 1.1/group sessions/activities, that will help them in achieving their goals for recovery. You will also be involved in the meet & greet at the gate service where you will help/advise and promote the next stages of their probation and our Dependency and Recovery service.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication skills, a good understanding of the issues faced by the client group and a true commitment and passion to support vulnerable people to enable them to fulfil their full potential.
You will have successfully completed/graduated from your recovery program – discharged from treatment and will be stable, 6 months in recovery / since prison release.
Time Commitment
- A minimum commitment of 2 hours a week for 6 months is required for this role.

The committee will be responsible for directing the activities of knus, ensuring growth and efficiency and achieving the objectives for which it was set up.
The committee will:
- Set the strategic direction to guide and direct the activities of knus - ensuring growth and positive impact;
- Ensure the effective management of knus and it’s activities; and
- Monitor the activities of knus to ensure they are in keeping with the founding principles, objectives and values
The team will be multidisciplinary incorporating volunteer committee members from all backgrounds. For example, those with lived experience, academics, corporate, psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, social workers, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, etc.
The committee members can bring in their own ideas and wealth of experience to shape the way knus moves forward.

Role: Support at the drop-in centre on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (12.30-4.30pm) or a Friday (either 10-1pm or 1-4.00pm), either weekly or fortnightly.

Purpose: To support adults with a learning disability and/or autism in a social situation to increase confidence and self-esteem, to build independence and to reduce social isolation.
Activities: We provide a range of activities that our members can choose to be involved with, or simply attend to socialise with friends. Volunteers and staff are there to provide support where needed. Please note that this is not a support role and that members who need extra care will attend sessions with their own support/care workers.
Examples of Activities:
- Encourage and support individuals to access and/or engage with activities
- Help facilitate arts and crafts, quizzes, bingo, and other games and activities
- Encourage independence and social skills amongst members by engaging and socialising with them (in accordance with The Hive’s boundaries policy)
- Help in the kitchen to provide refreshments (teas and coffees) as needed
Skills Required: Skills in listening and the ability to communicate with diverse types of people are essential. Patience, enthusiasm, and a non-judgemental mindset are a must. Experience with learning disabilities and/or autism is not a requirement, and full training will be provided to new volunteers.
Hours and Timescale: One session at the drop-in either weekly or fortnightly,, ideally for a minimum of six months. Flexible volunteering can be offered; however, it is essential that volunteers attend sessions that they are scheduled for and notify the session leader if they are unable to attend. This is to ensure the safe running of the drop-in.
Supervision: Volunteers will be supported by their Session Leader, who will provide informal supervision on a regular basis. The Volunteer Coordinator can always be contacted via email if there are any issues.
Benefits: All volunteers receive induction and awareness training on learning disabilities and autism within the first three months of volunteering and have the option to attend additional training offered by The Hive. Full liability insurance is in place. Mileage and out-of-pocket expenses can be claimed if needed. A work record will be kept for each volunteer so that we are able to provide references if requested. Social events, such as skittles, are held regularly for volunteers.

About St Giles Trust and Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV)
An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.
The Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) is a pilot service running across Wolverhampton and Coventry which seeks to engage children, young people and adults at risk who are within the criminal justice system due to criminality and violence and provide them with effective interventions to reduce the risk of reoffending and violence.
CIRV project is run through the Violence Reduction Unit and is a collaboration between West Midlands Police and a variety of agencies, including St Giles Trust. The service is for children and young people aged 14 years and older that are at risk of, or are experiencing, group-based violence and exploitation. St Giles Trust mentors will engage and support these young people and when their risk of violence has reduced, the young person will work with a volunteer mentor before exiting the service.
About this key role
Our CIRV Volunteer Mentor will engage and support young people, adults, and families once they have been identified as being involved in a violence-related incident, being at risk of exploitation or gang-affiliated and build positive relationships with the clients and their families, plus work directly with them in order to promote positive change, build resilience, and prevent young people from experiencing significant harm.
As a mentor, you will be non-judgmental, reliable and respectful of the young person’s autonomy. You are not there to tell them what to do, your role is to explore options with them, support them to make good decisions and act as a transfer of trust between the young person and other agencies.

Would you like to play a key role in supporting blind and partially sighted people in your local area? Are you great at communicating, love meeting others and enjoy using your admin and organisational skills? If this sounds like you, you’re the person we’re looking for to support our Solihull Social group meeting. The Solihull Social is a meet up for working age visually impaired people in Solihull and the surrounding area. The aim of the group is to bring together local, like minded visually impaired people who can relate to each other’s local issues around being visually impaired in Solihull, but mainly to have a good time getting to know each other. The group meet once a month in a relaxed informal setting for a drink or bite to eat. We would like your help with: • planning and organising group meetings; • liaising with the venue; • sighted guiding; • helping to ensure that participants feel comfortable and facilitate discussion; • looking after participants welfare within the group and flagging any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

As we embark on a period of growth and programme development, Power of Polo is looking to appoint two new trustees to our board. We are seeking highly motivated and passionate people to join a team dedicated to shaping the future of Power of Polo and being instrumental in guiding the charity at this time of critical development.
Being a trustee for Power of Polo is not merely a title; it is an opportunity to be at the forefront of making decisions that will directly impact the lives of people facing social, economic or health challenges. Our strapline if ‘change your line’, a polo term we have embraced to refer to how being part of our programmes has supported people to change the direct of their lives.
We have social mobility and equality of opportunities at the core of our mission, values and programmes. The Board of Trustees play an essential role in guiding strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability and governance, and upholding our mission and championing us both within the polo world, and also within the sport for change sector.
Trustees are encouraged to utilise and develop their own unique skills and experience. As the charity progresses, there will be opportunity for you as a trustee to develop areas you feel would support towards Power of Polo’s mission to use polo as a sport for change.
Your commitment
As a minimum, Trustees are required to prepare for and attend three Board meetings a year. These are two-three hours long and are a variety of in-person, hybrid, and remote discussions.
We are in search of individuals who bring a diverse range of experiences, perspectives, and skills. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have experience or skills in the areas of equine activities, sport for change and social mobility.
We would be keen to hear from applicants with one or more of the following skills and experience:
·Working knowledge of the charity sector or commercial sector.
·Experience within the equine sector, either personally or professionally.
·Ability to develop good relationships with colleagues on the Board, the wider staff team, and with current and future partnerships.
·Ability to develop and utilise networks and contacts to support the development of the charity.
·A strategic thinker.
·Ability to motivate and inspire others.
·An understanding of grassroots sport participation or the environment in which Power of Polo operates would be advantageous.
Remuneration
Trustees give their services on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration. We do however offer reimbursement of reasonable travel and subsistence expenses. We hope that you would also join us annually at our event at Guards Polo Club.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we are able to help more cats and kittens in need.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
- Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
- Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
- Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
- Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
- With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
- Represent the branch at relevant meetings
- Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

- Basic IT skills to use Cats Protection systems - training and support can be provided
- The ability to handle sensitive issues with objectivity and pragmatism
- Committee volunteers need to be aged 18+
Time expectation
The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Our Cat Adoption Team Leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. What can you expect to be doing?
- Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat adoption enquiries via email / telephone and social media
- Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
- Liaising closely with other branch volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
- Following up on any post-adoption queries
- Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the Cat Welfare Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures
