We’re expanding our podcast series, The Veterans’ Voice, and need creative audio production volunteers to help bring these stories to life with professional-quality sound design.

As a volunteer audio engineer, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the sound identity of our podcast series. Your work will involve editing and refining interviews clips and narration, adding music, and integrating sound effects to craft a polished, engaging listening experience. You’ll be joining a supportive team with guidance from experienced producers who launched our first series, providing you with the opportunity to develop your skills and showcase your work.
What’s the role and its impact?
As a volunteer audio engineer, you’ll ensure each episode of The Veterans’ Voice meets a high standard of sound quality. You’ll collaborate closely with the podcast producers to align the audio with the narrative and mood of each episode, creating an immersive and cohesive sound experience. Your work will directly contribute to making veterans’ stories more accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
What you’ll be working on:
- Editing and enhancing audio recordings to achieve clear, consistent sound quality.
- Integrating music and sound effects to support storytelling and evoke the right atmosphere.
- Applying noise reduction, balancing, and mastering techniques for a polished final product.
- Collaborating with the podcast producers to align audio with the episode’s narrative and flow.
- Contributing to a consistent sound identity across all podcast episodes.
Skills and experience
- Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, etc.).
- Experience in sound design, music integration, and audio mastering.
- A keen ear for detail and a passion for crafting high-quality audio content.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with producers and the Legasee team.
- Prior experience in podcast production or sound editing is a plus.
Training and support
You’ll receive guidance and feedback from team members who produced our first podcast series, helping you enhance your skills. We’ll also provide support with any specific tools or approaches used within our workflow.

At Legasee, we’re committed to preserving the stories of British military veterans through our digital video archive. We aim to make these stories accessible to all, highlighting key moments in history and sharing the voices of those who lived them. Our podcast series, The Veterans’ Voice, has already seen success with our D-Day episodes, and we’re now looking to expand with new content focusing on interviews from the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC) and other key themes like the Falklands War and Cold War Warriors.

As a podcast producer, you’ll play a crucial role in bringing veterans’ stories to a wider audience through engaging and well-researched episodes (around 25 minutes each). You’ll dive into our archive, exploring interviews and thematic collections, and combine this research with broader historical insights to create compelling narratives. Your work will continue to build the legacy of The Veterans’ Voice, giving listeners a deeper understanding of military history.
What you’ll be working on
- Researching the Legasee archive, focusing on new WRAC interviews and other key historical themes.
- Conducting broader historical research to provide context and depth.
- Writing podcast scripts and developing strong, engaging narratives.
- Collaborating with the people who were involved in creating our first podcast series.
- Contributing to the editing and production process to ensure high-quality episodes.

- Collaborate with a supportive volunteer team, under the guidance of WordPress experts.
