The Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance (ARMA) exists to improve musculoskeletal (MSK) services in the UK. We are a membership organisation which brings together patient, research and healthcare professional organisations working in MSK health. Working together as an alliance, we have a powerful voice to influence policy and improve standards of care.

Our vision is:

• The MSK health of the population is promoted throughout life

• Everyone with MSK conditions receives appropriate, high quality interventions to promote their health and well-being in a timely manner.

ARMA is a registered charity and a limited company, meaning that the board are both trustees of the charity and directors of the company. ARMA is a strong, stable and highly regarded charity with a track record of influence and success. We are relatively small in financial terms with a core budget of circa £100K in addition to project budgets, which vary from year to year. We also have healthy financial reserves.

We value the role our Trustees make. Our Treasurer plays and an important role alongside our CEO overseeing the financial health and integrity of the organisation.

While you may not have held a trustee position before, you will have the ability and professional confidence to work as part of a dynamic board of trustees. You will bring:

• Financial background with a firm understanding and appreciation of income statements and balance sheets, not-for-profit awareness and knowledge

• Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the board and other stakeholders.

About us

Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK.

In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, providing warm clothing, bedding, food and assistance to refugees who live in appalling and dangerous conditions. 

Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as offering social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to legal, medical and educational services.

Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to arrange critical legal representation for people seeking asylum and, more than this, to support people through the hostility and difficulty of claiming asylum. The department, made up mostly of volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and far less isolated and alone.

The Role

In this busy, hands-on role, you’ll gain an understanding of how the UK asylum system works, enabling us to provide the highest standards of service to those who need us most. Your work will focus on maintaining accurate records, following clear processes, and delivering high-quality support to every one of our vulnerable clients.

This will include working with individuals in UK detention centres. As a Detention Team Volunteer Caseworker, you’ll be speaking to clients impacted by the government’s “one in, one out” policy. You will be taking them through our client questionnaire to gather information important for their referral to legal support.

This role requires a commitment of 10 hours per week distributed evenly across the week.

We’re looking for people with a genuine passion for human rights and refugee protection. If that’s you, please get in touch. This is a fantastic opportunity to help asylum seekers access the legal support they deserve.

Responsibilities include:

As a prison reading coach your role will be at the heart of our organisation as you support our learners alongside our Shannon Trust prison facilitator in HMP Bedford. There may be some additional preparation and/ or administrative tasks in between volunteering days at the prison.

Our volunteers nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by delivering training sessions and offering ongoing advice, guidance and support through meetings.

Hoopsy

On a mission to eliminate plasic from lateral flow tests and make it easier to interpret results, starting with the pregnancy test.

Plastic pollution from lateral flow tests, every year over 178m kg of plastic from over 30 billion tests used across medical, environmental, food, and veterinary testing are thrown away. This plastic takes 30+ years to breakdown into microplastics which then pollute water, soil, food and eventually us.

We have developed a 99% plastic-free pregnancy test and are working on a 100% plastic-free test. Our plastic-free test will reduce carbon emissions by 79% versa the equivalent plastic one.

Hoopsy is focused on the USA market and is run by Lara Solomon, a solo founder, so any help with the business is VERY greatly received.

I am looking for someone who can write and publish 2 blog posts a week on our website.

You would need to do the keyword research, identify topics, write the article and publish it on the site (WordPress - I can show you if you haven't used this).

The kind of topics are:

• pregnancy tests

I know that I could chatgpt (or whatever), but having done that before, it is hard to get the right tone (friendly & knowledgeable) without rewriting it, and so although it can be a starting point, I don't want a copy and paste from Chatgpt, I want real people.

I do already have a list of topics that have been identified as good keywords as a starting point.

Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Prison volunteers live near to their local prison so that they can visit about once a month during the working week to nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by offering advice, guidance, training and support to prison staff and prisoner mentors who help other prisoners to improve their skills 1 to 1.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to work alone, able to give a regular, reliable commitment for ideally two years and able to deliver engaging training to groups of people in prisons.  Due to the nature of the role, prison security vetting will be required.

We provide training for the role via e-learning and 4 training sessions which are a mix of live, online and group training.

The Listening Place is a volunteer-led charity aiming to transform how we support people who feel suicidal.  Our trained volunteers are part of a team delivering face-to-face, confidential, ongoing support to thousands of people each year.  They help create the warm and welcoming environment that encourages people struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly without being judged or given advice.   

Listening volunteers provide ongoing face-to-face support to visitors on regular, fortnightly 4-hour shifts during which they meet with up to 3 visitors (for up to 50 minutes each). In order to ensure continuity for our visitors we require a one-year minimum commitment from our LVs, as well as three months’ notice of intention to leave.

No experience or qualifications are necessary – we provide full training in active listening.  We look for warmth, empathy and resilience in our volunteers and the ability to be non-judgemental and avoid giving advice.

We are primarily recruiting Listening Volunteers for our new site near Liverpool Street. We also have limited vacancies available at our other sites in Hammersmith, Pimlico and Kings Cross.

The Vacancy:

Emersons Green Village Hall is seeking to recruit a Chair of Trustees to build upon our success to date, provide visionary strategic leadership and steer the charity through its next stage of development and growth.

This is a voluntary role with a minimum time commitment of approximately five hours per month. We have up to six scheduled bi-monthly Board Meetings, which last up to two hours and are usually held on Tuesday evenings. In addition we have Committee Meetings to deal with faniances and operations, plus our AGM.  Meetings are held via Miscrosoft Teams or in-person at Emersons Green Village Hall. 

The Role of the Chair:

The Chair’s role is to lead the Board of Trustees, providing strategic oversight and governance, and creating a positive and inclusive culture. The Chair will be actively leading on shaping the future of our Hall, developing the business, and setting its strategic direction to ensure financial viability for the future.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a wide variety of skills who can be an enabler to oversee the charity and build on the progress we have made to date. Ideally you will have experience of being a Trustee. We are also looking for individuals with leadership, management, and organisational development skills. Experience in the voluntary sector, community facilities or running community projects would also be beneficial.

As a ‘hands-on’ Chair, you will bring your experience and skills to the role and will be supported by the Trustee Board, plus an established staff team including the Hall and Events Manager, plus the Treasurer and Company Secretary.

Jessie May is a Bristol-based charity, with a national reach providing nursing care at home for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions who are not expected to live beyond the age of 19.

The Vacancies:

Emersons Green Village Hall is seeking to recruit a maximum of six new Trustees to its Board. We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have professional experience of accountancy, banking, marketing or facilities management or if you attend activities or events at Emersons Green Village Hall.

Our Trustee vacancies are voluntary roles with a minimum time commitment of approximately two hours per month. About It’s Time:

It’s Time is a charity created by and for young adults who have experienced the death of a parent. Founded by people who know this grief first-hand, the charity ensures no one aged 18–35 has to navigate such loss alone. Through peer-led support, events, free group therapy, and tailored resources, It’s Time offers connection and understanding during an often isolating time. The charity also partners with universities, workplaces, and families to promote better bereavement support - recognising that grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and the help offered to young adults shouldn’t either.

The charity was founded in 2021 and we now run local peer support groups throughout England, have a year long waiting list for our group therapy and supports around 500 people in the online community.  We recognise that as we grow our needs and those of our community are changing and are looking for someone skilled in charity growth to steer us into the next phase of our development.

About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and committed Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and lead the financial stewardship of our growing charity. This is a vital voluntary role for someone with strong financial expertise who wants to make a meaningful difference in a purpose-driven organisation.

As Treasurer, you will ensure the financial health, integrity, and sustainability of the charity – guiding strategy, overseeing controls, and making sure the Board understands its financial responsibilities. You’ll also chair our Finance & Remuneration Committee and contribute to wider governance and leadership.

Time Commitment

• 4 board meetings annually (Tuesday evenings via Zoom)

• 1 annual in-person strategy day (usually a Saturday in London)

The Treasurer will serve a three-year term, with the option to renew for one additional term.

Washington’s amazing grounds have a lot of infrastructure which requires regular maintenance. By volunteering your time with us you will be helping to ensure that Washington’s grounds are maintained to the highest standards for our visitors. We use resources creatively to maximum effect which is why we need enthusiastic and hardworking people to help with these daily tasks.

• This role will be varied and will involve a lot of daily maintenance/minor repair of the infrastructure throughout the Washington Centre grounds, including play areas, fencing, gateways and platforms.
• Use of a wide variety of hand tools and light power tools to carry out repairs.
• Assisting the wardens with any of their ongoing tasks.

Who are we looking for?

• Someone who is committed to great customer service and willing to engage with our visitors on an ad hoc in a friendly and welcoming way
• Someone who is able and willing to undertake a range of physical activities outside in all weathers.
• Previous experience with the use of hand tools would be an advantage, although not necessarily a necessity.
• Proactive and able to work with a minimum of supervision, under the direction of the grounds, reserve and living collection teams.
• Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
