Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You just need the ability to listen, strong IT skills and good written and spoken English. If you think this could be the role for you, we’d love to hear form you.

What is a caseworker?

Caseworkers visit clients to work out what type of support they need. You will listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help those serving, who have served and their families to navigate life in and beyond military service. Some examples of support are securing funding for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical, and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can complete the administration part of the role from home as long as you have access to IT equipment and the internet.

What would you be doing?

• Contacting beneficiaries and arranging to meet them at a mutually convenient time.
• Meeting beneficiaries and completing a form to assess their circumstances, using good communication skills, empathy and understanding.
• Sign-posting clients onto local services providing specialist advice.
• Applying for funding on the behalf of the beneficiary through a specific process and system  
• Arranging for the purchase of goods and services
• Keeping the beneficiary informed of their case progress.
• Liaise with the branch and regional office, regarding your availability.
• Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support clients.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
• Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – confidentiality and boundaries, personal safety, caseworker training, and caseworker IT system training. The caseworker training takes 3 days and a further half a day for the other training.
• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
• Access to a range additional e-learning courses as well as local opportunities for your personal and professional development.
• Local induction including assigning a person from the team who will be your main point of contact.
• Regular opportunities to meet and share best practice with other caseworkers.
• Range of support from central and regional volunteer operations team.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable with good listening skills, patience, and a positive attitude.
• Good communication skills both written and verbally.
• Respectful and non-judgemental approach with beneficiaries, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues
• Willingness and ability to use IT systems for initial and on-going training and to enter cases on the Casework Management System. Willingness and ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address which you will be required to use when exercising your role.
• Ability to make enquires on behalf of beneficiaries by phone, email, letter or by filling in forms.
• Ability to keep within boundaries of the role with regards to friendship or giving advice
• Reliable, prompt and trustworthy.
• Access to public transport or a car to travel to appointments with clients.

You'll be a valued part of one of our Volunteer Community Fundraising Teams across the UK, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit to a couple of hours a month, but if you want to do more that would be great.

What you'll get

We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us. The Ark Gedling is a Christian charity that exists for the prevention and relief of poverty and hardship; it is a UK registered charity and a member of Advice UK. It provides a community café, with a range of activities to support community development and mutual support, which operate in conjunction with advice sessions, so that local people receive expert advice alongside compassionate community support and empowerment. It works in close partnership with other charities and with local churches. We are excited to announce we are recruoting new trustees to support the project into a new phase in our 20-year history.

What we're looking for:

We are looking for guardians for the next generation, a network of Student Engagement Volunteers who can represent the NSPCC on campus or college. People who believe in the work we do and understand the many struggles the younger generation face on a day to day basis.  

Whether an individual or a group you will be enthusiastic and passionate in helping us fight for every childhood and keeping children safe.

What you'll do:

You will engage your fellow students and wider campus and college by shouting about the vital work that the NSPCC does and the many ways they can support us. Some of the things you could be doing include;

• Promoting NSPCC campaigns around campus
• Organising fundraising events or activities
• Taking part in a Challenge event such as Trek, run or skydive
• Sharing key messaging through social media and your networks
• Encouraging RAGs, groups and societies to fundraise
• Setting up a Student Volunteer Network or Group

This role offers flexibility to fit in with your busy student lifestyle. You only need to commit to a couple of hours a month, but can do more if you would like to.

Role Details: 

Join us for a wonderful evening of music at Ralli Hall in Hove, where the Brighton & Hove Concert Orchestra will perform a programme of film and theatre favourites with their 50-piece orchestra. 

We’re looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help collect donations before and after the concert using both donation buckets and card machines. 

Whether you're looking to support a great cause, meet new people, or gain experience for your CV, we’d love to have you on board. No previous experience is necessary – just a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved.

What we're looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic people from across the UK who are passionate about helping children and young people feel and be safe in sports and physical activities.

What you'll do:

Represent the Safe in Sport Volunteer Programme at selected events in your locality, where you will make a difference, through sharing our Child Protection in Sport Unit's resources and gathering insights around safeguarding.

• Liaise with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) to learn about safeguarding in sport and physical activity
• Raise awareness of and signpost to available safeguarding tools and support
• Promote and encourage event attendees to engage with key messages; especially with themes for sport and physical activity participants, their families, and organisers, to help CPSU support them to keep children and young people safe in sport.
• Gather insights from event attendees, e.g. by sharing QR survey links
• Complete a simple event feedback form and return to CPSU
• Promote the wider work of the NSPCC and CPSU at events

What we're looking for:

Our Friends of Cheltenham are a small, passionate team of volunteers who organise a calendar of local events to raise awareness of, and vital funds for, our services for children. We're looking for more members to join our friendly team, have some fun and make a difference for children in Cheltenham and beyond!

Every term we organise events such as Easter craft sessions, Grandparents Day, and a Swap Shop. Our next events are a big fundraiser in Cheltenham for Childhood Day on Saturday 14th June, a ‘Back to School' session for parents in September, and then we'll be gearing up for Christmas! We always need a few extra people to lend a hand – coming up with ideas, promoting our events locally and on social media, organising events, gathering donations, and being there to chat to local families. 

If you can't commit regularly but are happy to be called upon every now and again, that's great too! Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.

What you'll do:

• Promote our services and resources for families and children
• Work as a team to plan awareness raising events and fundraising activities
• Talk to parents, carers and other community members about our services that support children and families, such as Childline, Building Connections, local campaigns, and our Schools Service
• Share news about our work and help promote upcoming initiatives
• Help at our big fundraising events such as Childhood Day and Christmas

You will be representing the charity in a professional manner, and will be regularly updated with key information and opportunities to encourage people to get involved.

2.About the Positive Cities campaign

Positive Cities is a new global initiative from ICAM, launched at UN-Habitat’s World Urban Forum in November 2024, to support cities in taking practical action for vulnerable street dogs and cats. By signing the Positive Cities pledge, city leaders commit to a series of steps that improve animal welfare, make communities safer, and support the wellbeing of both animals and people.

The campaign is still in its early stages – and strong, thoughtful design will play a vital role in how it's understood, shared, and supported around the world.

3.The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Graphic Designer to help shape the look and feel of ICAM’s online presence and our global Positive Cities campaign. Your work will include creating logos, icons, and visuals for our websites, reports, and digital publications – with a special focus on designs that feature dogs and cats in ways that are creative, honest, and compelling.

You don’t need formal qualifications or agency experience, but you should have a good visual eye and feel confident in your graphic design skills. Whether you’re self-taught, a student, a hobbyist with a strong portfolio, or an early-career professional, we’d love to see what you can do. Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, or similar is important, along with a good eye for layout, colour, and composition. A basic understanding of things like file formats and resolution is helpful too.

This is a great chance to make a real impact, contribute to an international campaign, and take creative ownership of designs that will be seen by cities, NGOs, and animal advocates around the world.

Invitation to Apply: Non-Executive Directors for People’s Powerhouse CIC 

The People’s Powerhouse is growing – and we’re seeking values driven, exceptional new Directors to join us on this fascinating journey.  We’re seeking applications from those who may not have considered this type of involvement before. If you have diverse lived experience, deep connections in places and/or with communities, energy, enthusiasm, insight, and an appetite to effect change; we’d be delighted to hear from you. 

In the first instance, we’re particularly looking for individuals with skills, knowledge and experience in finance, income generation and business development, to join the People’s Powerhouse CIC’s active, dynamic, and passionate Board. We’re also interested to hear from people with strong networks and ‘reach’ to support community representation (those traditionally excluded from decision making, young people, diverse communities). 

At People’s Powerhouse CIC, we believe in building a North where everyone’s voice counts. Our mission is to put people at the centre of decision-making, and we know that to succeed, we need strong foundations. That’s why we’re seeking Directors who can help strengthen our financial strategy, guide our business development plans, and ensure robust governance.

Whilst this is a pro-bono opportunity, by joining the Board, you’ll have the opportunity to strategically shape and influence the new mayoral footprint of The Great North, ensuring we have the resilience and resources to bring community voices to the decision-making tables, across the North of England. 

The board currently meets approximately 8 times per year, mainly online and annually for planning purposes for 1-2 hours depending on subject matter. Beyond this, you’d be expected to offer occasional support to the team and attend key events.
