FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for volunteer Driver's Assistants to join our busy friendly delivery team with redistributing tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester.
FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty and global warming by tackling food surplus. We source overstocked food from retailers and manufacturers and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute it to over 220 frontline charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. These groups, in turn, provide meals to vulnerable people experiencing food poverty, individuals who are homeless, families, and people who are unemployed or socially isolated. This food would otherwise have gone to waste, so we are simultaneously supporting people in need and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Whether you’re a jobseeker interested in a career in construction or woodwork, a student or recent college graduate seeking experience, or just someone with spare time on your hands, wanting to do something positive and meet new people, volunteering with the Touch Wood project at EMERGE 3Rs may be just the ticket!
Touch Wood is a wood recycling and upcycling initiative, which collects surplus and waste wood and timber and gives it a new lease of life.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Preparing wood for resale
* Assisting with the construction of wooden products, from small household items to pieces of furniture
Our Touch Wood volunteers are able to gain skills in practical woodworking, as we offer hands-on experience of working with reclaimed timber; from making basic lumber products ready for resale, through to assisting with the creation of bespoke items, such as kitchen equipment and home and garden furniture.
Full training in woodworking and health and safety is provided, along with Personal Protection Equipment.
The UK generates around 5 million tonnes of wood waste every year, but less than 1% is reused. Touch Wood rescues waste timber that would otherwise be landfilled or turned into woodchip; creating jobs and training opportunities for disadvantaged local people at the same time. We collect from construction sites, industrial estates and other commercial sources, reclaiming everything from pallets to indoor cycle tracks – you name it, we take it! Anything we can’t reuse is locally recycled, so nothing goes to waste. This reduces the carbon emissions associated with disposing of waste wood, offers cost savings for DIY enthusiasts, and provides training and job potential to volunteers in the workshop. Some of the timber we work with comes from high profile sources, including the entire track of the Manchester Velodrome cycling centre and wood removed in the recent refurbishment of Manchester’s historic Town Hall!
Our skilled team of staff and volunteers often use reclaimed timber to create beautiful and practical products, such as home and garden furniture. We regularly create bespoke pieces to order; some of it for famous clients like Olympic cycling champions Jason and Laura Kenny, for whom we made a table from the Manchester Velodrome track.
Please be advised that our volunteers require a fair level of physical fitness and manual dexterity as the role is entirely practical.
Our Touch Wood workshop and wood store is open Mon-Fri, 8.30am - 4pm (or outside of these hours only by arrangement). We occupy a unit at Maynard House, inside New Smithfield Market, in Openshaw, North Manchester, which is accessed from the main entrance on Whitworth Street East (off Ashton Old Road).

Aliens are invading Yorkshire! Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) are the second largest threat to global biodiversity (just below habitat loss) and all along Yorkshire’s waterways we can see the colonisation spreading year by year. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are on the front line, battling the tide of INNS such as Himalayan balsam, Japanese knotweed and American skunk cabbage. To win, we need volunteers to help us.
Our Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) and river restoration project teams are looking for passionate individuals to volunteer within the West Region INNS Team. INNS are the second biggest threat to biodiversity within the UK, cost around £2 billion annually to manage, and cause numerous issues across Yorkshire such as infrastructure damage and increased bankside erosion. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to assist staff with INNS surveying, treatment, and post-treatment restoration.
You will have the opportunity to learn how to identify a number of key native and INNS species, biosecurity, and surveying techniques including the use of our GB-wide app INNS Mapper. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to assist staff members within the wider West Region Projects team and attend skills training days run by the volunteer team.
This role will take place across the Calder and Colne catchments around Huddersfield and Ripponden, primarily on private land and land of partner organisations. Working in a ‘top-down’ manner, volunteers will help us to identify and control INNS across the catchments.
A contribution towards reasonable travel expenses can be provided.

Summary
The Sussex Area of the Ramblers has two Countryside Officers, one for East Sussex and one for West Sussex. The primary function is to act on behalf of members where a reported planning development could have a detrimental effect on the Sussex countryside.
Description
The Ramblers works to help everyone enjoy the pleasures and benefits of walking, and to enhance and protect the places where people walk. We are committed to encouraging and supporting walking, protecting and expanding public rights of way and access land, and protecting the beauty of the countryside and other areas. We recognise the threat posed to our countryside by climate change, which could severely alter many of our cherished landscapes. Ramblers support measures to mitigate this by switching to renewable sources of energy which are sensitively sited and don’t damage precious landscapes. In addition we believe the government must focus particularly on improving energy efficiency, pursuing a range of measures to reduce the amount of energy wasted in generation, transmission and use. We are concerned about the potential impacts of onshore shale gas exploration and exploitation, both on access to the places we walk and on the beauty of the wider countryside. We will oppose such operations where we believe these impacts to be unacceptable, particularly in areas designated for their natural beauty such as National Parks (e.g. The South Downs) and National Landscapes (e.g . Chichester Harbour).
The role involves reviewing planning applications published by the Local Authority and lodging objections on behalf of Sussex Ramblers in the event that such developments are considered to have a detrimental effect on the Sussex countryside and the places where people walk. Such concerns may be expressed in writing through a response to the planning process, but could also involve site visits and on occasions attendance at public hearings.
The incumbent will work closely with other Ramblers officers such as the West Sussex Area Footpath Officer and where necessary will seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' central office. Other main contacts include the Local Authorities, Parish/Town Councils and Local Access Forum. The position reports to the Area Council.
What Impact will you have?
The Ramblers help everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. By volunteering as a Countryside Officer you will be paying a vital role in making sure we can achieve this by holding Local Authorities to account for planning decisions, and helping to ensure that our countryside and the places people walk, essential to health and wellbeing, are safeguarded.
Skills and Experience Required
You should have a passion for walking and for preservation and protection of the natural beauty of the countryside and the special qualities of urban space, and a good knowledge of the county. Experience and knowledge of the Local Authorities planning process would be a distinct advantage. The position is suitable for a mature professional individual who is highly reliable, organised, capable of taking initiative and with an ability to articulate strategic issues clearly in written form. A desire and ability to work in a team environment is essential. You will also need to be comfortable using a computer and the internet, and managing information.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Sustainable fashion is hard. For customers it is often much easier to throw away their clothes or swap them for cheap alternatives than to repair, resell, or recycle them. Further, the current fashion industry lives on constantly changing trends, exacerbated by cheap production and social media. Overconsumption, overproduction, and lack of convenient access to circular alternatives generates more than 90 million tons of textile waste every year - something we believe is fully avoidable.
CiRCEE aims to make circular fashion easy. We believe that all the necessary solutions already exist, but they are scattered across different companies and locations. On our platform, we want to combine all the elements of the circular fashion economy - sustainable retail, repair, resale, recycling, and, importantly, re-education. By bringing these services to the customer all-in-one, circularity becomes more convenient, less time-consuming, and overall more appealing for people to act according to.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
- We are currently rebranding the company and need some help with developing a logo and visuals (general brand identity). Next to building our platform, we want to release a small collection of clothing with creative designs that link to our mission.
- Volunteer 4-6 hours per week remotely.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
